RIckie! Why? Who gave him the green light?

Has anyone kept track of all of the baserunning SNAFUs we've committed?

Is it just me or has Rickie Weeks done more to HURT us than help us as of late?

He REALLY needs a lot of work with his glove, bat, baserunning, etc this off-season. Tell me again, why is he not going to the AZ Fall League? He needs it more than Hardy.

< He also needs surgery more than Hardy. That's why JJ's going and Rickie's not.>

No one has ever indicated that he would have surgery done. Yost doesn't sound too worried about it (and we all know that Yost isn't afraid to sit people if he thinks they're hurting). Rickie Weeks is in the lineup, which tells me he is physically near 100%.

Last I heard the opinion was he'd need surgery in the off season but he couldn't hurt the thumb anymore by playing so he's playing.

The difference between us being in the wild card chase and fighting for 1 game over .500 has been fundamentals. Clark does a poor job hitting the cutoff man, overbay/miller can't catch the popup, weeks picked off, clark failed bunt, our generaly lack of situational hitting.... we've lost so many games this way this year its not even funny.

So, Yost is HIDING Rickie Weeks injury and taking the chance that this *possible* future all-star will injure his hand even worse in the final games of a non-playoff season? Get real. There is no reason for him to hide this injury. It's not like he's Lyle Overbay or Fielder....potential trade candidates. Weeks will be the 2B for us next year. Why would Yost risk anything. Evidently, it is not as bad an injury as you would like to make it out to be....maybe Weeks just is in a major funk. It is possible. Look at the pitches he's been swinging at and tell me that it is all because of his "injury." Stop making excuses for inept play.

I wish I could see the Crew. Are they upset with this performance? Do they look like they want to go out and kick some butt? I just can't get a read on this. Is it just as flat as it sounds?

Bite me, FSN.

Um, he's not hiding it, they've clearly stated that Rickie's thumb is hurt. The diagnosis was that he couldn't hurt it any worse by playing, thats not hiding it. If you look Weeks up on any sports site you'll see dozens of references to his thumb so I don't see why you won't believe its hurt.

An example from foxsports webpage including a quote from Yost...

''If it was a problem, he wouldn't be playing,'' Yost said. ''It's not anything that affects his play. Does it take a little bit away from his hand strength? Maybe. But not to the point where he can't do his job.'' He'll likely have offseason surgery to fix the problem. (Wed. Sep 7, 2005)

Bucksman: No one is making excuses for Rickie. We're saying he's going to have surgery and that's why he's not going to the AFL. Otherwise, it seems funny to send JJ and not Rickie
