Milwaukee Brewers vs. Oakland A's March 9, 2006 @ 2 PM

fondybrewfan

Phoenix - Right-hander Ben Sheets will make his second exhibition start as the Milwaukee Brewers face Oakland this afternoon at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Sheets, who missed the last six weeks of last season with a torn latissimus dorsi muscle, allowed two runs, four hits and a walk in two innings during his inaugural spring start last week, also against Oakland.

Sheets did not throw any curveballs in that game and said later that he felt a bit tentative. He felt good during a throwing session this week and expects to throw his breaking ball today in a stint that is slated for three innings or 50 pitches.

Here is the complete Brewers' lineup for the game:

1. Tony Gwynn, Jr., cf

2. Zach Sorensen, 2b

3. J.J. Hardy, ss

4. Geoff Jenkins, rf

5. Prince Fielder, 1b

6. Jeff Cirillo, 3b

7. Corey Hart, lf

8. Gabe Gross, dh

9. Chad Moeller, c

Starting pitcher: Ben Sheets

Relievers: Kane Davis (1 inning); Dennis Sarfate (2 innings), Mitch Stetter (1 inning), Jason Kershner (1 inning).

Minor-league reserves: RHP Brett Evert, Robert Hinton, LHP Steve Hammond, RHP Alec Zumwalt, OF Steve Moss, OF Drew Anderson, 3B Matthew Gamel, SS Ryan Crew.

You gotta hand it to the Journal Sentinel for stepping up the coverage this year. I really like seeing these lineups posted early on their site. Looks like Sheets is gonna break out the curve today so well see where he is at. Is it just me or is Ned given a lot of days off this year compared to years past. Rickie, Geoff, JJ all seem to be going 2 on 2 off. I dont remember it being like that last year?

Here's hoping Steve Moss gets an AB!

It is good to see that Sarfate is scheduled for two innings. To me, it means they are giving him a serious look/opportunity for the 25 man. Though the extended innings does not give an indication that his role has been defined as starter/long relief/short relief, not that the second week of spring should be a time for that definition.

Seems like Sheets is always horrible in spring training.

Yeah, they're taking Sheets out now.

Was it six or seven hits?

They're worried about his arm or something. Is he injured?

Ah, yes. My worst Brewer nightmare is coming true. Jeez, I hope this is for precautionary reasons only, but I sure have a sick feeling in my stomach right now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

[ Call the game now @#%$! ]

What kind of language is allowed?

The Brewerfan.net Fan Forums try to be a bit more civil than other venues. All of the main cuss-words are filtered out. If you see that a word you used is filtered out, please try to refrain from using that word again. Also, using creative spellings to avoid the cuss filter will result in warning, then dismissal. Bottom line, if you'd be uncomfortable talking to your neighbor's 10-year-old with the type of language you're going to use here, you should probably re-word your post.
