3/19/06 Brewers Split-Squad Day, MLB.TV vs. White Sox

Mass Haas
Brewer Fanatic Staff

Let's in-game-thread two!

The 2:05 PM game in Maryvale features Ben Hendrickson vs. Freddy Garcia and the World Champion White Sox.

Added bonus -- watch the White Sox feed of the game on MLB.TV.

I imagine many of you will figure out how to catch the game on your cable and satellite systems, feel free to let others know about that here.

Driving around town? Listen to Bob and Jim, who will be calling the game on WTMJ. Their call is available via MLB.com Audio as well.

We'll be putting out a special call for a PBP volunteer to the split-squad game vs. San Francisco. See the Brewers - Giants thread for that request.

Day off Monday -- expect several more assignments to minor league camp after this, the final split-squad day of the spring.

Uhh.. hey Mass? I dont know if you've realized this yet, but when you start the IGT's lately the Brewers lose. If they lose this one, I'll have to do a "reverse rant" on you.

Ben Hendrickson however, is not going to be spared that luxury, he needs my help right now.

Ben couldn't throw a strike if he were a union leader.

Ben gives up more walks than the MDA. (charity fund raiser walks, get it?)

Ben would still give up a hit if the batter were using a toothpick.

Yeah, maybe a bit weak, it's Spring Training for me too ya know...

Hendrickson getting smoked...

Hey, in the past, MLB.com would prompt me as to whether I wanted to make use of their media player or Real Player. That was sweet because I would always first open the audio of Bob and Jim with Real Player, and then I'd open the video with the Windows Media Player.

I'll be bumming if I can't pull that trick all season.

PbP won't be pretty; Hendrickson has given up two runs already 2 outs and a man on second for the White Sox.

2's across the board...

secondbaseman Crab (for Weeks) with a diving stab on a Mackowiack liner fires to Fielder for the force out.

2-0 White Sox

Bottom half of first:

Clark: cintron with the grab Clark thrown out 7-3

Cirillo: 5-3

Jenkins: 3-0 count... Green Light? too low. BB

Fielder: hitting .269 couple dingers on the year, throw to first- with a nice move by Richard Jenks is safe. 1-1 count check swing "xcuse me hit to third, 5-3 on the FC.

That's it for me now. I have been told togo walk the dog. Sorry guys, the wife has power over a Spring Training game. I could use the fresh air anyway.

Hendrickson still in, so let's hope for the reverse jinx to kick in with its power... Ben Could not K a girl scout.

You'll see Carlos Villanueva, Dan Kolb, Matt Wise and Derrick Turnbow in the White Sox game here, according to Jim Powell.

Infielder Ozzie Chavez, catcher Nestor Corredor, outfielder Darren Ford, and RHP Brett Evert are among the minor leaguers available for this game as well.

A lot of positives to take from this one. Kolb is still trying to get consistent with his release point, but he had guys hitting the ball on the ground. Basically, he got 4 outs in the inning he pitched. Turnbow looked fine. Quote from Hawk Harrelson after a Turnbow curveball: "That's the best curveball we've seen all spring".

Villanueva was in total command for two strong innings. He's making a case for moving up on the power 50. Rottino continues to rake. When the rosters expand in September, his bat might be nice to have around.

The -person- at TMJ who reads the news at the top of the hour said the Brewers lost this one.. HELLO?? It only ended like 5 minutes before.. If this were some sort of Packer scrimage, that guy would have been fired for that..

Oh well.. Nice set 'o wins for the crew.. About time..

edit: language. let's not make personal attacks like that please.

I know it's only spring training and a small sample size, but this is making me crazy:

CS: Clark (3, 2nd base by Lopez, J/Molina).

PO: Clark (1st base by Lopez, J).

What part of Brady Clark being a horrible baserunner is not clear to Yost?

Sure Brady has 6 SB this spring, but he also has 3 CS and he's been picked off at least twice. Shheeesh....
