Here's my fascination with Rivera.

He was just 24 years old when he hit 33 HR and drove in 103 runs in one season and an OPS over .900 in the pitching dominant Eastern League.

Now Palmisano won't turn 24 until September, but imagine how he would be perceived if he hit 33 home runs and posted a .936 OPS at Huntsville this year. People would be clamoring for him to take the starting job.

Well off that season, Rivera got the backup job at Detroit the following year and didn't do all that well but not terrible if you consider he was a rookie in a tough role in a tough hitters park. He was behind a top prospect there in Brandon Inge.

In 2003, he barely played at all (don't know if it was due to injuries) but he never got going at AAA or in the majors. Then again in 04, he struggled never finding that form he showed in 01. So he became your proverbial AAA journeyman.

But last year, he just plain started mashing again like he did when he was 24. 16 home runs in 214 at bats, an OPS of .895. When all the prospects came up to the Brewers, he was the best offensive weapon Nashville still had.

His major league throwing stats are better than average throwing out 35% of base stealers and even that is more impressive if you add in that he caught Steve Sparks in Detroit.

Wow, I just noticed the Brewers are winning 14-3.

If the Diamondbacks get a touchdown and go for a two-point conversion, they are only a field goal away from tying the game. I think the Brewers need to score some more. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Another e-mail:

(Ryan) can talk about baseball and not have to talk about grilled food when he gets in a jam.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Check out these spring numbers for the 13 guys likely to make the team (through the 5th inning).

.313 AVG

.395 OBP

.523 SLG

.918 OPS

All that, and they're only costing the Crew $28.5 million.

I heart Brad Radke.

Really? Was that a type-o? You said Ryan right?

Anyway, that was a good one. I was jealous of that one.

Edit: See, you are getting all sorts of after references with the "heart" references. Pithy and sticks in the memory. Casey, you get the email award for the day.
