Indianapolis Media Notes:

TONIGHT: The Indians final stop on this eight-game road trip is in Norfolk. The Tribe meet the Tides for the first time this season. Last year, the Indians went just 2-10 against the Tides. The Tribe dropped all six contests at Victory Field and went 2-4 at Harbor Park. The Indians have lost eight straight to Norfolk with the last win coming May 31.

The Indians are undefeated (1-0) on Mondays.

The Tribe roster remains at 22. The Indians had just three player moves the first three weeks of the season, but beginning last Monday lost six players in four days. Since Thursday the Indians have added pitchers Shane Nance, Robert Marquez, Nate Teut and Dave Burba. Nance and Teut are the Tribe's first lefties on the pitching staff this season.

YESTERDAY: The Indians beat Richmond 4-2 to gain a split of the four-game series. Keith Luuloa went 3-for-4 with 2 R and a RBI, and Pete Zoccolillo went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Pasqual Coco earned the win allowing two runs in 6.1 innings.

ON THE MOUND: The Indians will start a lefty on the mound for the first time this season. Nate Teut makes his Tribe debut after being purchased from Iowa Friday. Teut was 0-1 with a 7.56 ERA in two starts for Albuquerque before being released on April 15. He signed with Iowa the next day and went 0-3 with a 11.17 ERA in three starts. Teut worked five innings in two of his starts allowing two earned runs both times.

HOT AT THE PLATE: Two Indians boast batting averages above .300. Mark Budzinski tops the team with a .343 mark. Over his last 11 games, Budzinski is hitting .361 (13-for-36). Mark Smith is hitting .338 with a team-high seven-game hitting streak. Smith has hit safely in 18 of his last 20 games (.356, 26-for-73) and leads the team with 13 RBI and seven multi-hit games.

PITCHERS AT THE PLATE: The Indians are four games into a stretch of 10 straight games where pitchers bat for themselves. Tribe hurlers are 2-for-18 with nine strikeouts and three sacrifices so far this season.

LONG BALL PROBLEMS: The Indians have hit 16 home runs which ranks 12th in the IL while the pitching staff has surrendered a league-high 32 long balls. The staff has tightened the belt recently and has not allowed a home run in the last five games.

A ROUGH 'ROAD' TO HOE: The Tribe opens the season with 22 of its first 32 games on the road. The Indians are 5-13 away from Victory Field. The Indians are hitting .208 on the road and have scored just 57 runs (3.2 rpg). Six of the Tribe's 12 position players are hitting below .200 on the road. The Indians are hitting .256 on this trip and have scored 16 runs (4.0 rpg).

TROUBLE IN THE FIELD: The Indians have committed 26 errors which is fifth-most in the IL. Twenty-one of those have come on the road leading to 27 unearned runs.

UPCOMING PROBABLES:

Tuesday at Norfolk - RHP Francisco Campos (1-3, 6.59) vs. RHP Pat Strange (3-0, 2.13)

Wednesday at Norfolk - RHP David Manning (1-0, 2.50) vs. LHP Mike Bacsik (0-2, 6.63)

Thursday at Norfolk - RHP Dave Burba (1-3, 2.05) vs. TBA

LHP Nate Teut gives up runs early in his Tribe debut; Indians manage nine hits, but just one run on a Keith Luuloa HR...

Indy Site Game Summary:

NORFOLK, VA. -- The Norfolk Tides defeated the Indianapolis Indians 4-1 Monday night to remain in first place in the International League South.

All five runs crossed the plate in the first two innings. For the first time in five games the Indians did not score first.

The Tides (17-11) took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning. Jose Reyes led off with a double to left. Former Indianapolis Indian Marco Scutaro sacrificed Reyes to second, and Russ Johnson lofted a sacrifice fly to right to drive him in.

The Indians (10-19) tied the game in the second when Keith Luuloa belted his first home run of the season. For Luuloa, who was 3-for-4 Sunday against Richmond, it was his first homer at Triple-A since the 2001 season.

Tribe starter Nate Teut (0-1) created his own problems in the bottom of the second as Norfolk plated three runs to take the lead for good. Teut, who was 0-4 with a 9.50 ERA for two teams in the Pacific Coast League before joining the Indians over the weekend, walked Jorge Toca to start the second.

Prentice Redman then bunted back to the mound, but Teut threw the ball into right field to put runners on second and third with nobody out. The 6'7" lefthander then walked Virgil Chevalier to load the bases.

Esix Snead blooped a single into left-center to drive home Toca with the winning run. Two ground outs plated another run and advanced Snead to third. As Teut made a pick-off throw to first, Snead stole home for the final Norfolk run.

For Snead, it was his 10th stolen base of the season. Norfolk leads the IL with 43 stolen bases in 49 attempts.

The Indians got back-to-back singles in both the seventh and eighth innings but couldn't push any runs across.

Jason Roach (1-1) earned the win with five innings of work, while three relievers closed it out.

Tribe first baseman Mark Smith singled in the eighth to extend his team-leading hitting streak to eight games.

Game two of the four-game set is Tuesday night at Harbor Park.

No home cookin' in today's Daily Menu; we'll be dining out a lot this week; unfortunately, that means most game reports and newspaper accounts will be limited...

All times Central; pitchers subject to change; pre-game audio approx. 15 minutes prior to the first pitch; no audio for Beloit tonight...

INDIANAPOLIS: RHP Francisco Campos at Norfolk (Mets), 6:15 PM

HUNTSVILLE: LHP Luis Martinez at Chattanooga (Reds), 6:00 PM

HIGH DESERT: RHP J.M. Gold at Inland Empire (Mariners), 9:05 PM

BELOIT: RHP Tom Wilhelmsen at West Michigan (Tigers), 6:30 PM
