Too bad Krynzel is so inconsistent in the stolen base department. How does this guy with all his speed get caught stealing so much?

Same reason that Sanchez does, I suppose. Which proves that base stealing and running aren't all about speed.

Buffalo (Cleveland) 13, Indianapolis 8

Indy Site Game Summary:

INDIANAPOLIS -- Thirteen was the lucky number for the Buffalo Bisons (21-12) on Sunday afternoon at Victory Field, as the team pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of three errors in defeating the Indianapolis Indians (13-22) 13-8. Amid swirling winds that wreaked havoc on fielders throughout the game, the Bisons broke open a one-run game in the top of the sixth scoring seven runs in the inning.

Trailing 4-1 entering the third, the Tribe scored four runs in the frame courtesy of four consecutive hits, including Bill Hall's two-run triple off Buffalo starter Brian Tallet (3-1). Buffalo struck back in the top of the fourth inning, taking the lead for good on Greg LaRocca's two-run single, making a winner of Tallet despite his seven hits and five runs allowed in five innings.

Buffalo's Coco Crisp and LaRocca proved too much for the Indians bats to overcome as the tandem combined for five hits, four runs, and six RBIs in the ballgame.

Indians starting pitcher Francisco Campos (2-4) lasted only 3.2 innings while allowing six hits and six runs, only two of which were earned. Campos was relieved by Travis Miller, who in his Indians debut, allowed five hits and five runs in 1.1 innings of work.

Adding to the thirteen wildness, Mark Smith had an RBI double in the third inning to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Hall and Jason Conti each continued their hot hitting at the plate as well, Hall finished 2-for-4 scoring three runs and driving in an Indians season-high four runs that included a two-run home run in the eighth inning. Conti was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, including his fifth homer of the season.

The Indians will look for a split of the four-game series Monday at noon on School Day when David Manning (2-0, 1.80) looks for his third straight victory against Buffalo's Jason Phillips (5-0, 2.25). Tuesday the Tribe opens a four game series with Pawtucket at home.

I just gotta say, it's fabulous to see Ben back in the saddle again. Even though it was reported to be a minor injury, there's always a sigh of relief when the name is back in the Box Score.

And yeah Jim, that team is LOADED. In all my years following the Brewer minor leagues, I don't ever remember seeing a single team that loaded with prospects. The three K's were good (Krause, Kinkade and Klassen), but this team has batting AND pitching.

High Desert 8, Stockton (Rangers) 1

High Desert Site Game Summary:

Mavs Complete Sweep of Ports

ADELANTO, CA ? The High Desert Mavericks pulled off their first three-game sweep of the 2003 season, beating the Stockton Ports on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 8-1 at Mavericks Stadium.

Pitching was the key for the second straight day, as Tony Stavros, Aaron Dean (2-2) and Jeff Robinson combined to allow just one run on five hits. Stavros struck out a season-high eight men in 4.1 innings in his first career start. Stavros, making a spot-start for J.M. Gold, allowed just an unearned run in his 4.1 innings. Robinson came on in a bases loaded situation in the sixth and got Jason Botts to ground out to end the last Stockton threat of the day. Robinson would go the final 3.1 innings for his first career save.

The Mavs took the lead in the third inning, as Johnny Raburn knocked in Scott Candelaria with an RBI groundout. Froilan Villanueva?s two-out triple off the wall in left field, brought home Ralph Santana for a 2-0 lead.

Joel Alvarado knocked in Cristian Guerrero for a 3-1 lead in the fourth. Both players made their first appearance in a Mavs uniform since 2001, after being sent down from AA Huntsville. Alvarado finished the game 1-5 with an RBI, while Guerrero was 1-4 with two runs scored.

Dan Boyd?s fifth inning double scored Guerrero in the fifth for a 4-1 lead.

The Mavs opened it up by scoring twice in the sixth, once in the seventh and once in the eighth.

Eight of the nine men in the order got at least one hit, with Villanueva and Boyd each picking up two.

The Ports scored their run in the fourth, on an RBI single from Christopher Stringfellow, who finished the day 2-2.

The Mavs have now won eight of their last ten games, including three straight to pull to within five games of first-place Lake Elsinore. Stockton has dropped three straight and falls to 19-17 in the North.

The Mavs will try to make up ground on the Storm on Monday at Mavericks Stadium, as they face Lake Elsinore in the first of four straight. Chris Saenz (3-2) throws for High Desert while Justin Germano goes for the Storm at 7:05 (9:05 Central).

High Desert Box Score:

RHP Jeff Robinson's performance certainly the most impressive of the day...

I listened to most of the game on the radio, and unless the CS was in the last couple innings, I think what shows up in the box score is that Krynzel was picked off first in the first inning. Apparently the pitcher had a pretty good move, considering he almost picked off someone else later (Clark, I think).

Nice to see Bill Hall finally coming around with his bat, although I won't consider him a prospect until he learns to catch the ball as well.

Any word on J.M. Gold?? How serious is his shoulder(?) problem?

I think I'll wait until the end of May before I start thinking about Hall coming around. End of June I might seriously start thinking it. He's got enough talent that short of really awful luck it's hard for him to bat near .200. Even if he was batting .280 he'd still only have a .320 OBP so he's got plenty to work on.
