The AA Southern League just announced Huntsville RHP Matt Parker won the league's Pitcher of the Week Award.

Must have been all the kind words from the Link Report staff this week! Way to go, Matt!

I'm sure the Huntsville site will put together a write-up within the next couple of days.

Indy Site Game Summary:

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Ottawa Lynx broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run fourth inning as they went on to defeat the Indianapolis Indians 8-5 at Victory Field Friday night.

Tribe starter Dave Burba (2-6) allowed a solo homer to Jose Leon in the first inning and an RBI ground out to B.J. Littleton in the third, but retired seven of the first 11 men he faced before running into trouble in the fourth.

Leon drew a leadoff walk before Jack Cust and Robert Machado belted back-to-back doubles to make it 4-2. After the next two men flew out, Joey Hammond drew the second walk off Burba before Rob Sasser lined the third double of the inning to give Ottawa a 6-2 lead.

The Indians (18-34) were held in check much of the night by Ottawa lefthander Eric DuBose (5-3). Keith Luuloa's fifth home run of the season leading off the second inning put the Tribe on the scoreboard, and back-to-back singles by Joe Lawrence and Steve Scarborough led to another run in the third.

DuBose retired 14 of the next 17 Indians before Scarborough singled in the bottom of the eighth. Two batters later, Bill Hall hit his third home run of the season to make cut the deficit to 8-4.

DuBose left after the eighth having allowed four runs on seven hits. He struck out seven.

The Indians added one more run in the ninth off reliever Bill Pulsipher. Luuloa led off with a triple to the gap in left-center and came home on a single by Pete Zoccolillo. Two ground outs and a strikeout ended the Tribe's hopes of a comeback.

The Indians will look to snap their three-game losing streak Saturday when the play the Lynx (29-25) at 7 p.m.

San Jose (Giants) 7, High Desert 1

High Desert Site Game Summary:

SAN JOSE, CA ? The San Jose pitching staff picked up where Stockon's left off on Wednesday. The Mavs were held to just four base hits on Friday night, as the San Jose Giants defeated the High Desert Mavericks by a final score of 7-1 at San Jose Municipal Stadium.

Had it not been for a San Jose error with two outs of the ninth inning, the Mavs would have been blanked for the first time this year. Brian Foster's groundball to third baseman Julio Cordido was thrown in the dirt and past first baseman Julian Benevidez. The error, which should have ended the game, allowed Chris Morris to score from third for the Mavs only offensive output of the night. Julio Pavon then struck out Ralph Santana to end the game.

Greg Bruso (5-4) pitched eight scoreless innings, holding the Mavs to just three hits while striking out seven to earn the win.

Mavs starter Brian Mazone (0-6) was roughed up for seven runs on eight hits in six innings. He allowed a two-run homer to Dan Trumble in the second, a two-run shot to Julian Benevidez in the fourth, and another two-run home run to Trumble in the sixth. The Giants also scored an unearned run in the fifth as Julio Cordido knocked in Ramon Soler who reached on an error by Santana and moved to third on a throwing error by Mazone.

The Mavs are now 11 games under .500 for the first time this year, and are just 1-3 on the nine-game road trip.

The Mavericks take a day off on Saturday and return to action on Sunday in San Jose. Danny Kolb (2-3) goes to the hill against Anthony Pannone at 1:00 on Sunday afternoon.

David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com is ready and rarin' to go in Huntsville:

Kade Johnson picked a good time to hit his first Southern League home run, a 2-run no-doubt blast to left field in the 4th inning to give Derek Lee the go-ahead run in his 37th victory as a Huntsville Star........ Lee finishes May with a 3-2 record and a 3.85 ERA in a bumpy month for Stars pitching. With a day left in this month, the Stars May ERA comes to 3.42. The bullpen is 2-7 with a 3.78 ERA and 8 saves this month........ The Stars come home to face Mobile tomorrow and are a loss away from finishing under .500 for the month.

Lefty Lee didn't have his best stuff admittedly, but in the like Kim Darby in John Wayne's Oscar-winning movie, had true grit. He was at his best when it mattered most....... With one already in and two on in the 1st inning, he got Chris Saunders to hit into an inning-ending double play...... With two out in the 3rd and the bases loaded, he made a double-chump out of Saunders by striking him out....... In the 4th, Carlos Maldonado led off with a double, but the General set down the next three batters to end the inning....... In the 6th inning, he used just 7 pitches to retire the side........ In this important game evening the series, Lee put the Stars back into 1st place........ D. Lee is now 5-3 with a 3.17 ERA in nearly 100 innings against Barons hitters going back to 1999.

It was a big night for newcomers D.J. Clark and Kade Johnson..... Clark's RBI double put the Stars on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning, tying the game, his long-awaited first RBI for the Stars since coming to the Stars almost three weeks ago......... It was also a red letter night for Johnson, whose 2-run HR after a 2-out walk to Clark in the 4th inning, marked his first for the Stars........ The Stars added an unearned run in the 5th, then Chris Barnwell drove in Clark in the 6th to give the Stars a 5-1 lead......... The Stars were in position to add more in the 8th inning, but with the bases loaded and one out, they came up empty.

The Stars are borrowing Milwaukee mascot Bernie Brewer for tomorrow's home game against Mobile. This is the first appearance in Huntsville for the lovable sot. As for the game, the Stars send Mike Jones (5-1, 2.61) against Duncan McAdoo (1-2, 3.64). The first 1,000 fans get a free cell phone cover........ Thanks, but covers on anything but food are to me just an impediment........ Jones has won only two of his five starts this month. Three were no-decisions, but he has a May ERA of 1.64 with 23 Ks and 11 BBs.

Mike Adams, who saved five games this month, also had a 6.57 ERA......... Ryan Miller, who had 12 appearances this month, has given up just one earned run in his last 9 2/3 IP......... Ryan Knox's nine stolen bases this month matches his April total. Knox is hitting .242 in May......... Other May averages on the team: Dave Krynzel: .340 (.400 in his last 13 games), Richard Paz: .256 with 19 walks (7-game hit streak, as well), Corey Hart: .297, which is close to his April .303 and current .299 average...... Brandon Gemoll: .242 (8-for-27 in his last 7 games), Barnwell: .284, after a .190 April, and Daryl Clark: .271 (.360 in his last 7 games.)

Gary Varner goes by his name Noochie because his father is also named Gary and was nicknamed "Nooch" for some reason. Noochie almost never answers to his given name....... So far, he's gone 0-for-8 with 5 Ks....... The Barons struck out Corey Hart 7 times in 14 ABs in this series. In April against Birmingham, he struck out only 4 times in 17 at-bats....... The Stars currently are a little crowded with 13 position players. When Varner joined the club three days ago, I would have thought Chris Cosbey would get his release, but it turned out to be pitcher Matt Hammons, who was ready to come back. Figure that one out!

Matt Parker won the Southern League's Pitcher-of-the-Week award......... Parker won both of his appearances over the recent week, pitching 6 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up just one hit, and lowering his ERA to 2.02.

Where are they now? Former Stars pitcher Star Glenn Dishman (Stars 2000) is now coaching at TCU and is living in Ft. Worth. Catcher Matt Ceriani, who had 16 fruitless at-bats for the 2000 Stars, is in the Central League, where Brian Moon plays for the Fort Worth Cats in the Central League....... Thursday, Moonie homered, doubled and drove in 4 runs to help beat San Angelo, 12-10. The Cats are 9-9 and 5 games back in the Eastern Division........ Ceriani is hitting .325 for the Alexandria Aces........ Former Brewer prospect Derry Hammond is 2nd in the league in HRs with 6........ Former Stars 2nd baseman, Jeff Pickler, is 3rd in the PCL in stolen bases with 17, hitting .231 with a .278 slugging percentage..
