INDIANAPOLIS: Hard not to notice there's been a new wave of posts from fans in the Indianapolis area since I pushed the Brewerfan gospel at the Indy fans I met in my Milwaukee hotel last weekend http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ; RHP Pascual Coco vs Syracuse (Blue Jays), 2:00 PM

From today's Indy Media Notes:

Righthander Pasqual Coco makes his team-leading 15th start of the season. Coco leads the team in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts. Coco has won his last four decisions dating back nine starts to May 4. Over those nine starts he has recorded a 3.97 ERA allowing 20 ER in 45.1 IP. His season ERA has come down to 4.61 from 5.76. Coco faced his former teammates on June 8. He did not get a decision in a 5-4 Tribe win. Coco gave up four runs in six innings. In his most recent start, Coco also allowed four runs (1 earned) in six innings against Scranton on June 13.

HUNTSVILLE: RHP Jeff Robinson at Greenville (Braves), 6:15 PM, as the second half of the season begins

HIGH DESERT: LHP Kyle Petty vs. Lancaster (Diamondbacks) at home, 9:05 PM

BELOIT: Idle as the All-Star Break wraps up

HELENA: 18-year-old LHP Carlos Ramirez is scheduled to start at home vs. Missoula (Diamondbacks), 8:05 PM

The Helena front office gets a 2003 mulligan for its web site usefullness in year one (there pretty much is no usefullness right now). The folks in Helena should take note of the outstanding Missoula site and work to emulate that.

www.missoulaosprey.com/

Fortunately, the Helena newspaper coverage should be solid and timely, at least for home games.

Chad Petty is starting for High Desert. I think Kyle Petty is a race car driver or something like that

That's too funny, and probably not the only time I'll make that mistake, as much as I despise auto racing. I realize that fans of that *sport* (cough, cough) are diehard and will defend it to the end -- just please don't do so here (off-topic forum, perhaps). I'll just never get auto racing or the logic behind it, nor do I have the desire to do so.

Indianapolis 6, Syracuse (Blue Jays) 4

Indy Site Game Summary:

The Tribe bullpen continues to shine...

INDIANAPOLIS -- Alex Delgado drove home four runs, including three with his first home run of the season, as the Indianapolis Indians defeated the Syracuse SkyChiefs 6-4 at Victory Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Syracuse jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning off of Tribe starter Pasqual Coco as nine batters came to the plate. The first run scored when Kurt Keene walked with the bases loaded bringing home Kevin Cash. Rich Thompson singled to center to plate an additional two runs.

Coco (6-4) escaped further damage when he got Syracuse's top RBI man, Tony Zuniga, to ground out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

The Indians answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning when Jason Conti drove home Keith Luuloa with a single to right. Delgado then lifted a fly ball into center field that fell at the feet of both Syracuse center fielder Thompson and right fielder Mike Colangelo. Wilton Veras who had walked earlier in the inning came home on the play, but Conti was thrown out at second base for an oddly constructed fielder's choice RBI for Delgado.

In the bottom of the third the Indians tied the score when Luuloa led off with a single, moved to second on a single by Veras, and scored on a double by Conti. Delgado put the Indians on top for good with a three-run blast to deep left field which gave the Indians a 6-3 advantage.

Coco pitched into the top of the sixth inning, but after allowing base hits to the first three batters was relieved by Jason Childers with two men on and one already having crossed home. Childers not only pitched out of the jam by retiring the next three SkyChiefs batters, but also retired the side in the seventh, and the first two batters in the eighth before allowing back-to-back base hits to Mike Moriarty and Keene which put runners on the corners with two outs. This time it was Shane Nance's turn to shut the door on the Syracuse rally as Nance was brought on to face Thompson, who popped out to Wilton Veras at third base to end the inning.

Roberto Giron, pitching for the third straight day, worked the ninth to record his ninth save of the season.

The teams wrap-up the four-game series and the Tribe's eight-game homestand with a 7 pm contest Thursday night at Victory Field.

Huntsville 4, Greenville (Braves) 2

More injury woes for RHP Jeff Robinson...

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

That's Corey Hart in the photo; he was in the middle of all the scoring...

www.huntsvillestars.com/s...newsId=160

David Weiser's Huntsville Report:

OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT

The Stars did something tonight they didn't do the first half -- they won.

I mean the opener, of course...... The slate started clean for everyone tonight. Greenville, though they won 8 of their last 10, couldn't carry over their hot start into their new start, but the Stars, 13 games over .500 overall, went back at it without missing a beat.

Props go to Ken Ray, who came out in relief of Jeff Robinson, who left after experiencing some shoulder tightness. He hurled four scoreless innings, giving up two hits, his best performance of the season, lowering his ERA to 1.56.........

Things got going pretty quickly after Dave Krynzel grounded to second......... Chris Barnwell slashed a double off the base of the left field wall to extend his hitting streak to seven games........ J.J. Hardy pushed Barney to third with a bloop hit....... Corey Hart then raked a liner to Ryan Langerhans in right-center. Langerhans made a fantastic diving catch, stealing an extra-base hit away; but it still allowed Barney to tag and score........

The Stars got some nifty defense in the 3rd. Chris Waters reached on an error by Barnwell. Richard Lewis forced Waters at second, then Brandon Gemoll speared a liner by James Jurries. Gemoll caught Jurries who was leaning the wrong way for an unassisted double play to end the inning........ Ken Ray was off and running on a spectacular night. He allowed only a bloop hit and a bunt single. No walks. No runner advanced past first from the 3rd to the 6th inning.

Ray's offensive support tonight came mostly from Noochie Varner, who has hit a torrid .409 with seven multi-hit games since June 3, and raised his average to .295......... In the 4th inning, Varner came up to the plate with Hart, who led off with a double, on third and Gemoll, who hit an infield single, on first........ With the infield in, Varner chopped a ball over the mound. Richard Lewis read the ball well, making a great play fielding the ball and throwing in one motion, but Corey slid in safe........

In the 6th inning, Hart walked on four pitches and Gemoll singled to right-center, pushing Corey to third........ With runners on the corners and nobody out, the call was made to the bullpen to a pitcher who had been in the G'Braves rotation, Ramon Colon, who was making his 2nd relief appearance. Noochie lashed a double to the corner in left field. Hart scored easily and Gemoll was held at third......... Looking for more, Daryl Clark singled up the middle to Ryan Langerhans, but his throw scooted on the hop between the legs of cut-off man James Jurries.. Clark alertly took second base, while Noochie took third on the error......... With runners on second and third, Kade Johnson hit a chopper to short. Noochie at 3rd, broke and then stopped. Kelly Johnson hesitated too long in trying to catch someone off base, and caught no one. Kade was on via a fielder's choice to load the bases........ On the first pitch, Kenny Ray with nobody out hit into a 1-2-3 double play. Krynzel was walked intentionally to load the bases for Barnwell, but Barney grounded to short to end the inning........ The Stars in their second opportunity to get a run with the bases loaded by the 6th, had failed........ Sandy Guerrero however stated, "I'm very happy with how we swung the bats, especially since we didn't do anything on the off-day and had only eight swings in the cage before the game."

The G-Braves were able to get on the board in the bottom half of the 7th as Ramon Castro ripped an RBI double to right to bring in Cory Aldridge........ Greenville attempted to mount a rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, as rain started falling......... Matt Childers, whose 9th inning appearances have become cardiac checks lately, gave up a leadoff walk on a 3-2 pitch to Jason Fitzgerald. Cory Aldridge then singled. After one out, Kelly Johnson drew a walk on four straight....... With the bases loaded, Bryce Terveen, .455 against the Stars this season with a key RBI last May 20, hit a dribbler to short, slow enough to score a run to make it 4-2........ With runners on 2nd and 3rd, pinch hitter Jean Boscan came up as the rain started to fall. On a 2-and-2 pitch, Childers got Boscan on high gas to end the game........ The save was Childers' 3rd this month.

Huntsville sends Luis Martinez (6-4, 2.33) against the G'Braves' talented righty, Adam Wainwright (5-3, 2.88)......... Wainwright has faced the Stars twice this season. Although the Stars won both games, Wainwright has a 2.07 ERA against them this season....... The G'Braves were unkind to Krynzel again. Earlier this season, they snapped his 11-game hit streak. This time, they put an end to a streak that lasted nine games........ Dave has walked six times in his last five games, while striking out just twice........ Of Chris Barnwell's 43 hits, just six have gone for extra bases, but they've come in unusual clumps. Back in early May, he hit two of his home runs in consecutive games. This double tonight was his 2nd in five games........ There's a chance Ben Hendrickson may rejoin the Stars during their homestand against Carolina, which begins Sunday, which will be the first evening start on that day for the Stars.

The Stars will host the first round of the Western Division playoffs at Joe Davis Stadium on September 3-4........ Ballots for the Southern League All-Star game to be held in Jacksonville are out. The results of the balloting will be announced at the end of June starting with managers and coaches on the 27th.

Lancaster (Diamondbacks) 17, High Desert 5

High Desert Site Game Summary:

ADELANTO, CA ? The Lancaster JetHawks showed why they are the top offense in the California League. Leading the Cal League in average and home runs, the JetHawks added to their numbers by hammering the High Desert Mavericks on Wednesday night by a final of 17-5 at Mavericks Stadium.

Four different men had at least three hits for the JetHawks. Kyle Nichols had four singles, two RBIs and four runs scored to lead the charge. Jay Garthwaite had four hits and four RBIs with two runs scored, including a three-run blast down the right field line in the second inning off Mavs starter Chad Petty (0-2).

Petty was showered in the first two frames, allowing the JetHawks to get out to a 9-2 lead. Lancaster led 3-2 going into the second and came up with six runs, highlighted by Garthwaite?s 12th homer of the year.

The Mavs tried to respond, scoring two runs of their own in the second, as Ozzie Chavez knocked in Joel Alvarado with his first of two triples on the night. Chavez would then score on a Johnny Raburn sac fly to make it 9-4. The Mavs got their last run in the fourth, as Chavez again tripled and scored on a Raburn hit off JetHawks starter John Castellanos (1-0). Chavez finished the night with three hits, while Raburn picked up two RBIs to lead the Mavs.

The bullpen allowed the JetHawks to add to their lead. Tommy Marx allowed four runs in just one third of an inning. Tony Stavros then came on and gave up four runs in 1.2 innings.

Homers by Snyder and Sergio Santos helped add to their huge offensive night. Snyder connected off of Marx for a two-run shot, his tenth of the year. Santos went deep off of Stavros, giving him five of his six total home runs at Mavericks Stadium.

The Mavs take a day off on Thursday and come back to Mavericks Stadium on Friday night to take on Inland Empire at 7:05. Chris Saenz (5-6) will get the ball on Friday evening.

High Desert Box Score:

It's early for Chad Petty, but the best thing we can say about the Alex Sanchez trade so far is, "Hey, that Noochie Varner looks like a player." -- MassBrew

Daily Press High Desert Game Story:

www.vvdailypress.com/cgi-...699,24133,

The San Bernadino Sun runs a weekly California League column; High Desert news has been light thus far this year, but we'll pass on the following from this week:

High Desert pitcher David Nolasco, a resident of Rialto and graduate of Eisenhower High School, got the opportunity to pitch in front of a home crowd for the first time in his professional career Saturday night. He made a spot start in the second game of a doubleheader against the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino at Arrowhead Credit Union Park.

Nolasco, a 24-year-old right-hander, said he left 48 passes for family and friends but saw at least 10 other people he knew. All were standing behind the visitor's dugout and applauding when the local product left in the sixth inning after giving up a leadoff walk and a double.

Nolasco (2-2) went five innings, allowing just one run and four hits while striking out two and walking one in the Mavericks' 3-1 victory.

"I just wanted to make sure I wasn't flat,' Nolasco said. "I didn't want to hold anything back. I was going to give it everything I had and if I ran out of bullets, so be it. Of course, I didn't want to come out, but I was running out of gas.'

Nolasco has been used primarily in long relief, but Mavericks manager Tim Blackwell and pitching coach Bill Champion needed him in a pinch. The club was short-handed after releasing pitcher Brian Mazone to make room for Brad Nelson, who was coming off the disabled list.

"Of course, I would love to start, but it is up to the coaches,' Nolasco said. "I will do whatever they want me to do.'
