Huntsville's up 1-0 in the top of the first, but also in the midst of a serious rain delay -- in case you get ESPN radio instead of the Stars' broadcast -- Robert Portnoy breaks in for weather updates every 20 minutes or so...

Nice start for Joe Roa; Zocco and Luuloa go boom; serious damage by the middle of the order; LHP Travis Miller appears to be the victim of a crowded rotation for the moment...

Indy Site Game Summary:

SCRANTON, PA -- Thanks to a four-run seventh inning explosion, the Indianapolis Indians broke open a tie ballgame for starting pitcher Joe Roa as the team defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons 6-4 on Thursday night. Roa (2-1) pitched six innings allowing two runs in earning the victory over the team with which he compiled a perfect 14-0 record in 2002.

With the score knotted at two apiece, Jim Rushford hit a one-out RBI single scoring Bill Hall with the go ahead run in the top of the seventh. Two batters later, after Mark Smith had reached based on a error by the third baseman, Keith Luuloa drove a Jose Cabrera (0-1) pitch deep over the left centerfield wall for a three run homer that broke the game open for the Tribe. The homer was the third hit of the game for Luuloa, who also contributed four RBI to pace the Tribe offense.

The Tribe jumped out to the early lead when Luuloa drove home Steve Scarborough on a single to right field off of Scranton starting pitcher Greg Kubes.

Pete Zoccolillo added to the total for Indianapolis with a solo homer leading off the fourth inning to give the Tribe a 2-0 lead.

Roa, making his third start of the season, allowed back-to-back singles with two outs in the bottom of the first before retiring 13 batters in a row as he kept a shutout intact through the first five innings. In the bottom of the sixth Roa issued his only walk of the game, a walk which proved to be quite costly as two batters later Eric Valent tied the game with a two-run home run to right.

Shane Nance relieved Roa to start the seventh inning and faced only six batters in his two innings of work to extend his scoreless innings streak to 17.1 innings dating back to May 23.

Travis Miller entered the game for the Tribe in the bottom of the ninth allowing three hits and two runs while recording only one out before departing in favor of Roberto Giron with a runner on first and the tying run at the plate. Giron quickly induced pinch hitter Juan Sosa into a ballgame ending double play to nail down his 12th save of the season.

The Indians (36-42) will conclude the four-game series with the Red Barons (39-40) on Friday evening before returning to Indianapolis for '80s weekend at Victory Field starting when the Tribe takes on the Richmond Braves at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Glendon Rusch (1-0, 3.86) will make his second start for the Indians on Friday facing Scranton's Amaury Telemaco (4-7, 3.36).

Lake Elsinore (Padres) 6, High Desert 1

Tough road matchup for the Mavs in this series -- the Storm has been awesome on their home field...

High Desert Site Game Summary:

LAKE ELSINORE, CA ? The High Desert Mavericks stumbled out of the gate on Thursday night, losing their first game after the three-day All-Star Break with a 6-1 defeat in Lake Elsinore against the Storm.

Greg Sain knocked in four runs with three hits, including his team-leading 15th of the year, as the Storm improved their lead in the second half to 3.5 games over High Desert.

Justin Germano (8-3) pitched eight solid innings, allowing just one run on three hits to improve to 3-0 against the Mavs this year. Germano struck out a season-best nine while allowing just one walk. At one point, the right-hander retired 13 straight men before issuing a two-out walk to Todd West in the sixth.

Trailing 2-0 in the second, High Desert scored their only run of the night off of Germano, as Scott Candelaria doubled to lead off the frame. He would come around to score on a one-out double by Froilan Villanueva. Villanueva had two of the Mavs four hits on the night.

The Storm jumped on Mavs starter Danny Kolb (3-6) with two in the first then chased him with three in the fifth. Sain's two-run blast to left field in the fifth made the score 5-1 as the Storm never looked back.

Kolb allowed five runs on six hits in his five innings, while striking out six. He walked just two, but both proved costly, as they each scored. Justin Gordon worked three innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits.

With the loss, the Mavs are now 2-5 in the second half and 27-50 overall.

On Friday night, High Desert sends Chad Petty (0-2) to the hill against Javier Martinez (1-1) of the Lake Elsinore Storm at 7:05 (9:05 Central). The Mavs will not return home until Tuesday, July 1st, when they battle the Inland Empire 66ers at Mavericks Stadium.

High Desert Box Score:

It's just "same old, same old" for the High Desert boys -- surely they were hoping to stick around in the second-half division race for a while...

I think as far as the baby brewers are concerned get that Fausto Mejia in the lineup a little more. He is contributing just about every opportunity that he has been given. I think a little more playing time is warranted. The guy just has obvious hitting skills. Just want to see deserving guys get a shot.
