Everytime I see Teut's name, I think of Goldmember.

The Brewers minor league clubs are "up" to 16 game under .500 record, with Helena and Huntsville the only teams over .500 mark. The real drag on the group is, of course, High Desert, at a less-than-"teut" 28-51.

Indianapolis 3, Richmond (Braves) 2 Final/12 innings

Bill Hall fans three times... Roberto Giron with the blown save...

Bases Loaded with 0 outs in the bottom of the 10th for the Tribe... Richmond pulls in a 5th infielder and stops the Indians from winning.

indyindians.com site summary:

INDIANAPOLIS -- Pete Zoccolillo came to the rescue for the Tribe again, blasting a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to propel the Indianapolis Indians (38-43) to a 3-2 victory over the Richmond Braves (35-49) on Sunday afternoon.

For Zoccolillo it was his second extra-inning walkoff homer of the season, the first of which came in the Indians home opener on April 9.

Travis Miller (6-2) earned the win for Indianapolis pitching a scoreless frame in the top of the 12th.

Nate Teut started the game for the Indians and left after six innings of shutout ball. Teut allowed only four hits before turning the game over to the Tribe bullpen with a 2-0 lead.

After Ben Ford and Shane Nance did their duty by pitching scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth innings respectively, Roberto Giron was brought on to face the Braves in the top of the ninth.

Richmond scored two runs off Giron thanks to an RBI single by Wilson Betemit that brought home Damon Hollins, and a sacrifice fly by Nick Green which scored Adam LaRoche to send the game into extra innings.

Indianapolis squandered a golden opportunity in the bottom of the 10th inning. Facing reliever Jamie Emiliano, the Indians loaded the bases with no outs, but failed to push a runner across home plate. Zoccolillo had the first crack at it, but following an intentional walk to Mark Smith, Emiliano got Zoccolillo to roll into a fielders' choice with a drawn-in infield. Emiliano then struck out Keith Luuloa and got Jason Conti to line out to short to end the inning.

Sam McConnell, a Ball State University product, pitched two innings of relief for Richmond, sending the Tribe down in the sixth and seventh innings while allowing only one hit and striking out two.

The Indians grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Luuloa drove home Jim Rushford with a single, and Zoccolillo scored on an error.

The two teams will continue the four-game series at Victory Field on Monday evening when the Tribe sends David Manning (4-3, 3.06) to the mound to face the International League's strikeout leader in lefthander Andy Pratt (4-5, 3.05).

Indianapolis Box Score:

Heated friendly rivalry between Jim Rushford and Pete Zoccolillo for most favored LH bat call-up option (especially when John VanderWal is moved eventually); Keith Luuloa taking more time from Wilton Veras as of late - MassBrew...

Quad City (Twins) 13, Beloit 1

Ouch... those 4 errors didn't help. Prince Fielder with the lone RBI on an infield single.

riverbandits.com game summary:

The Quad City River Bandits scored a season-high 13 runs?including seven in the fourth inning?and Adam Harben carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning on Sunday afternoon as Quad City defeated the Beloit Snappers 13-1 at John O?Donnell Stadium. Harben struck out a season-high eight men while Jose Morales highlighted the seven-run fourth by collecting two hits, including a two-run double, in the inning.

With Quad City on top 3-0, the River Bandits exploded for a season-high seven runs in the fourth inning. Morales opened the inning with a single and, with one out, Jose Liz reached on an error. Scott Whitrock bunted for a base hit to load the bases, and, with two away, Seth Davidson hit a bouncer up the middle. The grounder was handled by the second baseman, but Whitrock beat an attempt at second base, and then the rally was on.

With one in and two outs, Danny Matienzo hit a bouncer to third. The ball was fielded, but thrown into right field to allow two more runs to score. After Omar Burgos walked, Alex Romero drilled a two-run single to increase the lead to 8-0 Quad City, and Morales capped the rally by lacing a double down the left field line as Quad City took a 10-0 lead.

On the mound, Harben befuddled the Snappers throughout the ballgame. Harben retired the first eight men of the game, striking out four, and did not allow a hit until the sixth, when Kennard Bibbs hit a chopper up the middle. Harben left the game after 5.2 innings, when Prince Fielder hit a bases-loaded dribbler that went for an infield single.

Harben went 5.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits. His eight strikeouts were a season and career-high, while the three hits allowed marked his best performance of the season. Since joining the Bandits at the end of the first half, Harben is 3-0 with a 2.35 ERA. Quad City has won each of his four starts.

After two more runs came across in the fifth inning, Quad City?s Jesus Merchan capped the scoring in the top of the eighth. Merchan, who entered as a defensive replacement in the top of the seventh, belted a solo homer down the left field line. He line drive just stayed fair, clearing the lower wall in the corner for his second homer of the year, and his fifth in two seasons with Quad City.

Tristan Crawford went 3.1 near-flawless innings to get the save for the Bandits. He allowed just two hits and did not allow a baserunner to get past second base after entering in the top of the sixth inning. It was Crawford?s first save of the year, and the sixth of his career.

Beloit Box Score:

Jeff Housman's ERA survives but check out the pitching line -- Housman has now allowed 35 runs this season, only 14 earned; Jeff doesn't K many (44 in 76.2), so he needs solid D behind him; his low WHIP (still only 1.11) has us confounded -- one of the more statistically brainteasing seasons going; Jeff Eure, seemingly a gifted athlete, drafted as a catcher but with 19 steals in 20 attempts this season (career 39-of-44), saw action for the second time this year at SS; plenty of brain power on the mound with Yale teammates Steitz and Breslow back-to-back, Steitz has been serviceable since his activation off the DL; Breslow's been less effective than many had him pegged for against Midwest League bats -- MassBrew...

Lake Elsinore (Padres) 7, High Desert 4

RHP David Nolasco couldn't repeat his recent dominance...

High Desert Site Game Summary:

Lake Elsinore Takes 3 of 4

LAKE ELSINORE, CA ? The Lake Elsinore Storm won the final game of the four-game series on Sunday evening against the High Desert Mavericks, taking the finale by a score of 7-4 at the Diamond in Lake Elsinore.

Brad Baker (2-0) dominated through six strong innings, striking out a season-best 12 men, earning his second win in as many starts. Baker allowed just one unearned run to the Mavericks in the first inning in picking up the win.

The Storm answered Froilan Villanueva's RBI single with three runs off Mavs starter David Nolasco in the first frame. Josh Barfield knocked in a pair of runs as the Storm took a 2-1 lead. After Barfield swiped third base, he scored on Lou Merloni's sac fly for a 3-1 advantage.

Lake Elsinore added two in the third and two in the fourth to chase Nolasco, who lost his first decision since being moved into the starting rotation. Nolasco (2-3) left after only 3.2 innings, allowing all seven earned runs.

The Mavs rallied for three in the eighth off Jack Cassel to make things interesting. After walking the first two men, Cassel allowed a two-run single to Jeremy Frost as the Mavs pulled to within 7-3. Ralph Santana's fielder's choice brought in Jason Belcher, who singled earlier in the inning but that's as close as the Mavs would get.

Mike Wodnicki worked a scoreless ninth for his team-leading 12th save of the year.

The Mavs are now 3.5 games behind the first place Storm after losing three of the four games in the series.

The Mavs will return home on Tuesday, July 1st, when they battle the Inland Empire 66ers at Mavericks Stadium at 7:05 (9:05 Central). Dan Hall will go for the Mavs on Tuesday night against the 66ers.

David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com Huntsville Update:

HIT PARADE

Before Thursday's rainout in Chattanooga, pitching coach Stan Kyles was watching Luis Martinez, the scheduled starter, warm up before the game in awe....... He had never seen Luis look so good before and even Luis remarked how good his arm felt and all his pitches moved....... "Absolutely amazing. The best stuff I'd ever seen. He had it all," exclaimed Kyles..... We'll never know how good Looie's stuff really was. The game lasted three whole batters and part of a fourth, but whatever Luis had last Thursday, he didn't seem to have it tonight........ He used up 90 pitches, 55 for strikes in five innings of work, constantly working from behind the count and getting out of jam after jam.

This game could easily have wound up a laugher, as the Barons outhit the Stars by a ridiculous margin of 18-9........ The Barons' hit parade was led by newcomer Jeremy Reed, who joined the Barons after Ryan Hankins was promoted to Charlotte. Reed's five hits figured in two key rallies...... The Sox are very high on this left-handed hitter. With Class A - Kannapolis (SAL) last year, his average was almost 30 points higher than his nearest teammate. He left the Winston-Salem Warthogs with a .333 batting average, currently 2nd best in the Carolina League....... After Sunday's performance, he's hitting .463.

The Barons left five of eight runners on base in scoring position in the first five innings........ The Barons, in the 1st inning, left Reed on third after he singled and stole his way around the diamond....... Reed, like Ryan Knox, doesn't have blazing speed, but he is very aggressive around the diamond........ In the 2nd inning, a force play left another runner on third....... In the 3rd, Reed, Gabe Alvarez, and Darron Ingram each reached base consecutively, but a pickoff erased Reed from the bases and Alvarez was forced out...... In the 4th, Jonathan Acevas took advantage of a one-out walk, and circuited around the bases, eventually scoring on a two-out single by Danny Sandoval........ Chad Durham doubled down the left field line putting runners in scoring position, but Looie got the strikeout when he needed it to end the inning......... In the 5th, Martinez had runners on the corners with one out, but struck out All-Star catcher Carlos Maldonado swinging on a 1-and-2 slider and Jon Acevas the same on a 1-and-2 fastball........

Four of Looie's six strikeouts in the game were in crucial situations to end the inning, as he left the lead to Ken Ray, who was holding the league to a .191 batting average, but numbers can mean very little in a game....... Guillermo Reyes led off with a single to right-center. Danny Sandoval dropped a beautiful drag bunt down the first base line. Brandon Gemoll fed the ball to Kenny on what looked to be a bang-bang play, but he dropped the feed for an error........ After Chad Durham bunted a third strike foul in back of the plate for the first out, Juan Piniella singled sharply to left to load the bases. That set up the big hit for the Barons, a single by Reed to score Reyes and Sandoval for a 4-3 lead. Gabe Alvarez followed with some insurance, hitting a double into the left field alley to score Piniella.

Although the Stars had a three-run inning in the 4th to put them ahead, 3-2, thanks to a 2-run HR to left by Noochie Varner and an RBI double by Knox, they squandered a number of chances that would have offset the 18-hit barrage the Barons unleashed tonight......... With one out In the 1st, Dave Krynzel walked on four pitches and stole his 29th base of the season (his 42nd as a Huntsville Star -- good now for 14th place on the club's all-time list). J.J. Hardy then singled to right, but took 2nd when Jeremy Reed overthrew the cut-off man, but no further damage resulted........

The Stars left D.J. Clark on 2nd and Kade Johnson on first in the 2nd inning when Knox hit a high foul to the third base side........ The Stars had a runner on first with one out in the 6th when Pacheco was taken out........ For some reason, Neal Cotts does not show up in the official box score, but Wally Backman called on the southpaw, just off the DL because of a shoulder problem, to get lefty hitter Clark...... Clark went 2-and-2 before he singled to right, sending Varner to second, and Backman went to the right-hander Jeff Bajenaru, who cuffed the Stars for 2 2/3 innings, allowing no hits, but three walks.

In the 8th inning, Bajenaru issued back-to-back walks to Varner and Clark, before getting Richard Paz, who has the best eye at the plate on the team, on a called third strike. Judging by the look on his face, you knew Paz didn't agree at all with Mike Estabrook's call........ It wasn't the only bad call the Stars saw tonight. Varner was called out on a late tag at third on a double steal attempt in the 6th.......

The Stars rallied with one out in the 9th to score their final run. With closer Royce Ring on the mound, Knox singled on two hops to right-center. After Krynzel capped a hitless night by flying out to left, Hardy ripped a double off the Purity sign in right-center to score Knox and raise his average back up to .300....... Representing the tying run, Corey Hart struck out on a 2-2 breaking ball to end the game.

This was "Turn Back the Clock" night the stadium, and 2,500+ fans were attracted, not just by the novelty --- there has been almost no change in the Stars logo since 1985, save for cosmetic changes in the colors (the Stars wore red pullover tops tonight) --- but by the auctioning off of the Stars' uniforms. The bids started before the game and concluded in the 7th inning. All bids started at $30...... When it was all over, Dave Krynzel's jersey top went for $250........ Ryan Knox was picked up for an overpriced $225....... I believe J.J. Hardy's uni went for $185. Corey Hart's was won for $250....... The wife of Jimmy Jones --- I'm sorry I can't remember her name --- wound up with hitting coach Sandy Guerrero's #16 for $100. (It was the number Jimmy wore when he was a catcher for the Stars in 1987-88)........ I bid $45 on Kade Johnson's #26 because that's my birthday, which was four days ago, but someone beat me out. C'est la vie........ Anyone who wasn't attracted by the chance to win a bid on a uniform, certainly was there for the dollar hot dogs, Pepsis, programs, and G.A. tickets. Hot dog and soda sales were very brisk tonight.

The Barons, Stars, and Diamond Jaxx were all logjammed in a second place tie prior to this game, but now the Barons and Bay Bears are in a first place tie, with the Stars two games back....... In the second game of this three-game series, Ben Hendrickson (2-1, 2.84) will try to reprise his one-hit performance against Carolina and even this series against right-hander Mitch Wylie (1-1, 4.76), Monday night.

Toby must feel like a proud papa the way Carlos has been pitching. Maybe he was right that Los' should have been in Beloit the whole time already. Good case for it now. Also that Whitney kid is looking like a pretty smart sign for low cash.

For the first few weeks of the season, not a day seemed to go by when SportsTicker didn't include a Brewer in its daily highlights. It's been a while...

INDIANAPOLIS (INT) OF PETE ZOCCOLILLO drilled a game-winning home run with two outs in the 12th inning to lead the Indians to a 3-2 triumph over the Richmond Braves. Zoccolillo, who singled and scored in the fourth, hit his third homer in the last four days and sixth of the season after Richmond rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth to force extra frames.

Helena LHP Carlos Ramirez is the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week

Talk about your no-brainers, congratulations Carlos, courtesy of the Helena site:

PL PITCHER OF WEEK BLANKS PADRES

The Helena Brewers recorded their first shutout of the season, riding the right arm of Carlos Ramirez to an 8-0 whitewash of the Idaho Falls Padres Sunday afternoon at Kindrick Legion Field. Helena climbed back into a tie for first place in the North Division with the Great Falls White Sox at 9-3, while the Padres dropped to a league-worst 3-10.

Helena broke through early against Idaho Falls starter William Ponce, as Guilder Rodriguez led off the first with a single to left and scored three batters later on a sacrifice fly by Robby Deevers to make it 1-0. The Brewers added three more in the second, highlighted by an RBI single by Andri Gomez and a second successful double steal in as many nights, this one turned in by Rodriguez who went to second and Gomez who knocked over catcher Luis Lopez to score.

Ramirez improved to 3-0 with a 0.50 ERA this year, striking out a season-high seven batters. He has allowed two hits over his last two starts (12 innings) and has a 14.1 inning scoreless streak. Ponce took the loss for Idaho Falls and dropped to 1-2, allowing four runs (one earned) and seven hits in five innings of work. It was just announced that Ramirez has been voted "Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week" for June 23-29.

The Brewers will enjoy an off day Monday, then begin a week-long road trip to Casper for three games and Idaho Falls for four. Helena's next home game is Wednesday, July 9th against the Great Falls White Sox.

Hee-hee, imagine if he had pitched with his better arm -- Ramirez is a lefty, although coincidentally, he was listed as a RHP in the 2002 Brewer media guide -- listed as a LHP in the 2003 guide and everywhere else.
