The Beloit Daily News website was down all weekend. Here is the game story from Friday's Snapper win. We'll post it here so it doesn't get overlooked. Pitching Caoch Rich Sauveur is always good for quotes, because he always seems to discuss the "stuff" and projectability of each pitcher he discusses, as well as insights into what they're working on, etc.

Just finished listening to the Snappers - Kernels game (while stuffing the eTopps ballot box for Jenkins!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif ), and we lost 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth.

Manny went 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R (all in the 3rd or 4th), with 4K and no BB! He retired the last 11 batters he faced.

Prince tied the game with a 3-run blast, and had a towering fly out in the top of the ninth.

Tim Bausher gave up a walk off home run to the Kernels in the ninth.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

Louisville (Reds) 6, Indianapolis 5

Jason Childers gave up two HR's in the top of the 8th to break a 4-4 tie. Indy cut it 6-5 in the bottom of the 8th as Ryan Knox doubled and Jim Rushford drove him in (Rushford hit his 7th HR earlier in the game). Still in the 8th, the Tribe had bases loaded, only one out, but the underperforming duo of Jason Conti and Wilton Veras could not come through. Indy went down 1-2-3 in the ninth, all she wrote.

Indianapolis Site Game Summary:

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Louisville Bats hit three home runs Monday night as they defeated the Indianapolis Indians 6-5 at Victory Field. A disputed long ball that was taken away from the Indians proved to be the difference in the game.

Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, the Tribe's Jason Conti went the opposite way and hit what appeared to be a solo home run over the left field wall. Third base umpire Don Goller ruled that the ball had hit the wall and bounced over the fence for a ground rule double. Despite protests from Conti, third base coach Gaylen Pitts, and manager Cecil Cooper, the call stood and Conti returned to second base where he was stranded.

After the Bats (55-36) stretched the lead to 4-0, the Indians (39-50) rallied to tie the game with a four-run sixth. Wilton Veras reached on an error by shortstop Felipe Lopez to start the inning. Steve Scarborough hit a pinch-hit double to put two runners on base. Bill Hall doubled them home then came around to score on Jim Rushford's seventh home run of the season.

Louisville made a winner out of Mark Watson (2-2) and a loser out of Jason Childers (1-3) in the eighth when Ruben Mateo and Brandon Larson hit back-to-back home runs leading off the inning.

Rushford drove in a run for the Indians in the bottom of the eighth, and the Indians loaded the bases against John Bale, but they couldn't push across the tying run.

Bale retired the Tribe in order in the ninth for his second save.

The Indians' homestand continues Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the Norfolk Tides come to Victory Field to open a four-game series.

Indianapolis Box Score:

Bill Hall's two errors push his season total to 19 (some at 2B, one in the OF); Jim Rushford still about 40 plate appearances shy of qualifying for the league's batting race...

Man it must be great to be Prince, have a "slump" for over a month get back on track for a couple of weeks and your back to leading the league in OPS. When the Brewers trade Vanderwal is their any reason not to call-up Rushford?

i think rushford deserves another chance...hes still in his prime years...so what if we wont get 10 years of good service out of the guy...maybe he can be good for half a season....to me, rushford is becomming the kieth ginter of the outfield...hes a good hitter...maybe he just had a bad run last year...especially with the suspected injury

Yes, apparently Prince read the criticism from colbyjack when he was surfing over to read his brewerfan interview. Either that or offense heats up when the weather does....

Meanwhile, there are two catchers in Helena hitting .400 after almost a month...and Gabe Mendoza is wishing for his return to the cool Beloit spring...

Funny how Rushford went MIA in Oklahoma to start the season for about as long as he struggled last fall. Now he's a hit machine. Being mostly useful because he can hit for average means that a mini slump and a period of adjustment can look really bad for him. If the base hits aren't falling for him he's not going to hit enough HRs or draw enough walks to look good at all. He does those other things but not to the extent they can pick up the rest of his game. The second half of the year would be a great chance to try him out everyday for a few months to see how well he'll translate to the big leagues.

I thought it was interesting that Fielder got hot about the time Gwynn joined Beloit. Coincidence or not?

Hey now, I stopped criticizing Fielder well over a year ago now

WELL OVER a year?

One year ago was July 8, 2002. Well over is at least more than 1 week. More like several weeks more than a year. So if we subtract 4 weeks we get about June 8, 2002. Would that be correct? Or do most people think that 'well over a year ago' is more like 1.5 years? That would be before the draft and if I recall Prince wasn't at the top of your list last year. I need to go back and check the Brewerfan.net archives to see if someone might be exaggerating a tad bit in their use of adjectives. I guess we should give our favorite Draft-obsessed poster a break.......but the Kotchman obsession is another story. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Fortunately, there is no permanent record of the bf.net draft-day chat, and all the stupid things I said about Mr. Fielder and the wasted pick. In my defense, I was a moron.

Though I will note that Sergio Santos is rocking in the high-A Cal League!

You're not the only one who said stuff like that.

PriceFielderCanRake said some silly things too. I wonder what happened to that guy?

It's a lot easier to admit being wrong when its being wrong about somebody failing...

Well, I guess I have questioned Prince's defense at 1B all winter long...

Remember this guy...?

Next year's obsession: Jeremy Sowers. Be ready.

And David, what if I changed this:

Hey now, I stopped criticizing Fielder well over a year ago now

to this:

Hey now, I stopped criticizing Fielder, well, over a year ago now

Good http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ?
