From the Indy Media Notes:

SCARBOROUGH - NOT QUITE ENOUGH: For the second time this season, an Indians player has just fallen short of earning IL Batter of the Week honors. Steve Scarborough hit .423 (11-for-26) with four multi-hit games last week. He had four doubles, one triple and three home runs for a 1.000 slugging percentage. One of his homers was a walk-off grand slam against Columbus Monday night, while he added a three-run shot Thursday at Richmond. Scarborough scored five runs and drove in 10. Columbus' Fernando Seguignol won the award. He hit .452 with a .903 slugging percentage. He scored 12 runs and drove in seven in eight games.

Indianapolis 9, Durham (Devil Rays) 4

Tribe avoids a sweep...

Indy Site Game Summary:

DURHAM, NC -- The visiting Indianapolis Indians scored early and often in defeating the Durham Bulls 9-4 on Monday night to avoid a Durham sweep of the four-game series. The Indians (46-61) jumped all over Carlos Reyes, chasing the Durham starter from the ballgame in the top of the fifth inning. Jason Conti and Mark Smith each homered for Indianapolis, as all nine Indians hitters picked up at least one hit in the contest.

Reyes (9-2), entered the game leading the International League with a miniscule 1.67 ERA, but was roughed up by the Tribe's offensive assault for 12 hits and seven runs over only 4.0-plus innings pitched.

In the top of the fifth, Wilton Veras and Jim Rushford led off the inning with back-to-back singles off of Reyes moments before Smith smacked a two-strike pitch off the famous Bull sign in left-center field at Durham Bulls Athletic Park giving the Tribe a 6-3 lead. Following a walk, an error, and a single by Doug Jennings, the Tribe loaded the bases on Reyes with still nobody out in the fifth when reliever Talley Haines was brought into the game. Haines did his part in avoiding further damage by getting Steve Scarborough to hit into one of five Indians' double plays with a grounder toppled back to the pitcher. Haines then got Delgado to ground out to end the inning.

The Indians opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning on an RBI double by Scarborough and a two-RBI single by Delgado.

With the score at 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Durham rallied for two runs on a double by George Lombard that brought the Bulls to within one, but that was as close as the two teams would come.

Following Smith's homer in the fifth, the Tribe scored two more in the sixth when Conti led off the inning with a solo home run and Veras scored on an RBI single by Cody McKay that gave the Tribe a 9-3 lead. Durham scored its final run on a Lombard triple in the sixth.

David Manning picked up the win for the Tribe, improving to 6-7 on the season while snapping a personal three-game losing streak in the process. Manning pitched 7.0 innings scattering eight hits while giving up four runs, three earned, and striking out five.

The Indians will return home to Victory Field to open an eight-game homestand on Tuesday night when the Richmond Braves come to town for a two-game series. Lefthander Luis Martinez (1-0, 0.00) will make his Victory Field debut on Tuesday when he is opposed by Richmond's Chris Fussell (7-10, 4.28).

Indianapolis Box Score:

Jason Conti's good for 10-15 HR's in each of his pro seasons; everyone contributes on offense; you know Cody Mckay is hot as he sees time at first base -- having the DH available helps...

In progress: Inland Empire (Mariners) 6, High Desert 1, after 3.5 innings in San Bernadino

RHP Dan Kolb has been rocked for six runs and ten hits after three innings.

Mike Lindskog deserves combat pay for the job he's had to do in the radio booth this year -- you can imagine as the only man on the broadcast, in a season such as High Desert's has been, what a chore he's had.

That being said, Inland Empire blasts a fog horn for every run they score (think Chicago Blackhawk hockey games). It sounds as though it's literally coming from Lindskog's own booth, and Mike has rightfully deemed it the worst feature in all of minor league baseball. Well, for visitors anyway...

I hate that horn. The first time I heard that, I almost jumped out of the chair I was sitting in... yikes. It's very, very loud.

And yes, Lindskog has done a fantastic job in less-than-ideal circumstances. He and Robert Portnoy are both great - Indy, not so much (IMHO). It's just a matter of taste, but it's testament to the job that Mike has done.

Good call, MassBrew!

Final: Inland Empire (Mariners) 8, High Desert 4

High Desert Site Game Summary:

San Bernardino, CA ? The High Desert Mavericks dropped their third straight game on Monday night, losing the first game of a four-game series to the Inland Empire 66ers by a final of 8-4 at Arrowhead Credit Union Park in San Bernardino.

The 66ers jumped on starter Danny Kolb for three runs in the second and three more in the third to take a 6-1 lead. Ismael Castro's RBI single in the second put Inland Empire ahead to stay 1-0. Luis Oliveros and Castro would both score on a Dustin DeLucchi two-run double to make it 3-0.

The Mavs got on the board in the third, as Joel Alvarado doubled and scored on a Johnny Raburn RBI single. Trailing 6-1 in the fifth, High Desert added another run, as Chris Morris' RBI double plated Todd West, who opened the inning with a single.

A two-out RBI single by Pichi Balet off Danny Kolb (3-9) would finally chase the Mavs starter in the sixth. Tony Stavros would come on to finish the inning, and would allow a total of one run over the final 2.1 innings.

The Mavs made a run in the top of the seventh, chasing 66ers starter Troy Cate (7-10), by scoring two runs to make it 7-4. Alvarado knocked in a run with an RBI double and later scored by stealing home on a double steal with Ozzie Chavez. 66ers reliever Emiliano Fruto came on to finish the seventh after Troy Cate was removed.

Working with an 8-4 lead in the ninth, Fruto hit Alvarado and walked Chavez before striking out Morris to end it and notch his fourth save of the year.

With the loss, the Mavs are now 41 games under .500 at 33-74 and just 8-29 in the second half.

The Mavs look to end a three-game losing streak with game two of the four-game set in San Bernardino on Tuesday night. Chad Petty (0-7) will take on Tim Rall (0-0) of the 66ers. Game time is 7:05 (9:05 Central) from Arrowhead Credit Union Park.

Huntsville Site Game Story:

www.huntsvillestars.com/s...newsId=243

Hall threw a first-pitch fastball, and Hart launched a breathtaking blast to left. The ball sailed over the monstrous scoreboard Hardy hit the inning before, some 50 feet in the air, Hart?s 10th homerun and third grand slam this season. He seized the league-lead in runs batted in, improving his total to 78, and extended his hitting streak to seven games. During the streak, Hart is batting .560 (14-for-25) with a grand-slam homer, six doubles, six runs batted in and seven runs scored.

Great Falls (White Sox) 10, Helena 6

Brief Game Story from the Independent Record:

www.helenair.com/articles...903_02.txt

The kid who hit for the grand slam and cycle for Great Falls is the same player who set the Pioneer League hit streak record of 30 earlier this month. I would think league MVP is locked up :)

Additional Details from the Helena Site:

Great Falls scored seven runs in the eighth innning to come from behind to beat Helena 10-6 Monday. Ricardo Nanita hit for the cycle for Great Falls, he is the second player to hit for the cycle this year for the White Sox; Brian Anderson did it July 2nd against Ogden.

Andri Gomez went three-for-four with an RBI for the Brewers. Robby Deevers continued his hot streak going two-for-four. Helena had three doubles on the evening.

Carlos Ramirez started for the Brewers; pitching four and a third, giving up three runs on four hits. Dan McKenna had his best outing of the year pitching two and two thrids scoreless inning in relief.

Helena and Great Falls go back at it again Tuesday, game time is set for 7:05 (8:05 Central). Brandon McCarthy faces Kenny Durost.

Helena Box Score:

Nic Carter once again pitches late, walking his only two opposing batters; 35th round pick Phil Hendrix followed -- is the Carter experiment for real?

With his frame, Alvaro Martinez could be a dominant late-innings guy. He must throw pretty hard, because he always has a good number of K's, but those K's are usually coupled by a lot of BB's, too. Obviously, still plenty of time for the kid.

And Colby, how about Kotchman being in rookie ball and Jones being in AA? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

In a day or two, we'll post the leaders from Beloit, Helena, and Arizona. Indy's bunch didn't qualify...
