Sunday's Daily Menu :

We'll be plugging in the standings for playoff-contending Huntsville, Beloit and Helena within the Daily Menu while pertinent; Huntsville's fighting for a second-half crown that would provide additional home field advantage in the playoffs; Beloit's looking to qualify with a second-half division championship -- they can also automatically qualify for the playoffs with a second-place division finish. It now appears that Helena is playing for additional home-field rights as well.

Indianapolis 8, Louisville (Reds) 4

Indy Site Game Summary:

LOUISVILLE, KY. -- The Indianapolis Indians completed a three-game sweep of the Louisville Bats with an 8-4 win Sunday night cutting the Bats lead in the International League West to 2 1/2 games. The Tribe (60-75) opens the final homestand of the season Monday with two more games against Louisville.

Coming off a season-high 17 hits Saturday night, the Indians matched that total Sunday as they won their third straight game for the first time this month.

Jason Conti led the attack with four hits and three runs scored. The center fielder, who had a two-game stint with Milwaukee last week, singled in the second, fourth, sixth and eighth innings, and scored the final three times he reached base.

The Indians built a 4-0 lead against Bats starter Scott Randall (10-4). Steve Scarborough singled and scored on a double by Ryan Knox in the third inning. Pete Zoccolillo's 11th home run, and an RBI single by Scarborough made it 3-0 in the fourth.

Conti led off the sixth with his third single and scored on a ground out by Scarborough to make it 4-0.

After Louisville narrowed the gap to 4-3, the Indians came up with four insurance runs off of Carlos Almanzar in the eighth. The first four batters hit safely including a two-run single from Cody McKay. Pinch hitter Doug Jennings added a sacrifice fly and Knox drove in his second run of the night with a single to cap the scoring. Knox extended his hitting streak to a season-high six games.

Ben Ford (5-3) earned the win for the Indians. The righthander retired the first nine batters of the game, and allowed only two baserunners through the first five innings. The Bats (74-61) plated three runs in the sixth, however. Mike Stefanski led off with a single before Ford issued back-to-back walks to Kevin Baez and Mark Budzinski. After Wilton Guerrero knocked in one run with an infield grounder, Emil Brown lined a bases loaded double into the left field corner. Two runners raced home to make it 4-3, but Guerrero was cut down at the plate as he tried to score all the way from first.

Brown then made the Bats second baserunning mistake of the inning when he was caught trying to steal third base with slugger Calvin Pickering at the plate. Pickering then grounded out to end the inning.

Four Tribe relievers finished the effort allowing just one unearned run in the bottom of the ninth.

The Indians will face all three of their West division rivals on the upcoming homestand which runs through Saturday. Monday is Fan Appreciation Night. Tickets are $7 and $3, and hot dogs will be sold for 25 cents.

I'm a huge lurker of this site. However, I had to post my feelings on today's Huntsville game. I had a chance to go down to Carolina to see the game as I work for Danville in the Appy League and we've had games all weekend until today. First off, what a great bunch of guys. I talked to some of them before the game, had Nelson and Hardy sign my BA, wish them luck, but just nice guys all around. Second, I felt proud to be a Brewers fan. I saw Parra pitch along with Prince in Beloit before heading out to work and along with the core in Huntsville that could make for a mean team in Milwaukee. Will all the guys pan out? Probably not, but I will remember today for a long time. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning when I woke up and couldn't wait to unopen the present that is Huntsville. I would just like to thank all the guys that work on this site. I'm always showing it off at work and talking up the guys in the minors, but I wouldn't know anything about them without the information you guys dig up. Today, I am truly am proud to be a Brewerfan.

Really good post Weapon!!!

I'm hoping that the group gets promoted together to Indy so many of us will get the chance to catch them next year. Huntsville is just a little far away for many of the fans but I'm sure a bunch will make the effort to venture down to Indy.

The excitement is buildinghttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

High Desert Site Game Summary:

Modesto, CA - The Modesto offense couldn't be contained on Sunday evening, as the A's finished off a three-game sweep of the Mavs, defeating High Desert by a final score of 17-11 at John Thurman Field in Modesto.

The High Desert offense put up great numbers with 11 runs on 10 hits, but it wasn't enough on Sunday, as the A's knocked around several members of the Mavs pitching staff.

Mavs starter Chad Petty lasted just two innings, allowing five runs on six hits. Petty actually left with the Mavs in front at 6-5. Reliever Justin Backsmeyer came on and got roughed up. Backsmeyer (1-9) only recorded two outs in the third inning, before finally being chased. The A's scored a total of eight runs in the third inning, sending 13 men to the plate in taking a 13-6 lead. Modesto had 13 runs and 16 hits after just three innings of play.

The Mavs kept putting runs on the board, getting two more off A's starter Christian Gonzalez (4-2) in the fifth. The A's put the game out of reach by scoring one in the fifth against Bobby Bystrowski and three in the sixth and seventh combined against Aaron Dean.

The Mavs rounded out the scoring by tallying three times in the eighth against A's reliever Chris Mowday. Chris Morris had the big-hit of the inning, a two-run single to make it 17-10. Morris finished the night with three hits and three RBIs.

The A's were led by Corey Myers, who had four hits and four RBIs. Omar Quintanilla, who homered in his first Cal League at-bat on Friday against the Mavs, picked up his second homer in an A's uniform against Dean in the seventh, and finished the night with a career-best four hits.

The Mavs finish the road trip at just 1-5 and finish the year with a record of 16-54 away from Mavericks Stadium.

The Mavs try to end their three-game losing streak on Tuesday night, opening up their final seven-game homestand, against the Lancaster JetHawks. Chris Saenz (8-9) will throw on Tuesday after High Desert takes a much needed day off on Monday.
