Link Report for Games of Tuesday, September 2nd

Tuesday's Daily Menu :

Hopefully you've been gorging yourself and stuffing your cheeks on minor league audio all summer because it's almost time to go into hibernation -- in fact, even with one game this evening, you're not hearing it unless you're in Big Sky country, so it's a taste of "cold turkey" tonight!

INDIANAPOLIS: Season complete

HUNTSVILLE: PLAYOFFS -- The Stars will face Birmingham in a best-of-five series with the first two games at home on Wednesday and Thursday nights this week; more details tomorrow...

HIGH DESERT: Season complete

BELOIT: PLAYOFFS -- The Snappers will face Wisconsin in a best-of-three series with the first game at home on Wednesday night this week; more details tomorrow...

HELENA: LHP Carlos Ramirez at home vs. Great Falls (White Sox), 8:00 PM; no audio; the Brewers' regular season ends this Friday...

Here's the playoff scoop on the Pioneer League playoff picture. The Brewers, first-half Northern Division champs, have only bragging rights to play for, for a second-half crown as well. Here's the current second-half standings:

NORTH DIVISION W L PCT GB *HELENA BREWERS (MILWAUKEE) 20 14 .588 GREAT FALLS WHITE SOX (CHICAGO WHITE SOX) 18 16 .529 2.0 MISSOULA OSPREY (ARIZONA) 17 17 .500 3.0 BILLINGS MUSTANGS (CINCINNATI) 13 21 .382 7.0

Helena will open the divisional playoffs on the road for the first game of a best-of-three this Saturday. Game Two will be in Helena on Sunday, and Game Three will also be in Helena, on Monday, if necessary (opponent to be determined).

The Championship Series would then also be a best-of-three, with Game One scheduled for Wednesday September 10th on the road at the Southern Division representative. Thursday the 11th is a travel day, as the Northern Division champion (hopefully Helena) will host Game Two on Friday the 12th, and if necessary, a final game on Saturday the 13th.

Helena 5, Great Falls (White Sox) 4

Get outhit by more than a 2-to-1 margin? No problem. These kids must be having a pretty good time up north. Does anybody else see a similarity between this team and last year's Ogden bunch (which produced a pretty solid 2003 Beloit club, by the way). If anything, this year's Pioneer League squad has gaudier numbers, especially on offense. Just keep filling that pipeline...

The Brewers farmhands had 3 players of the year in their respective leagues - Captain Lou, Prince, and Corey Hart. Not too shabby.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006
