BELOIT: RHP Calvin Carpenter vs. Clinton (Rangers) at home, 4:00 PM, -- no web audio, apparently, all series long http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif ; I can't imagine Carpenter's leash will be very long if he struggles early; must win, LumberKings lead series, 1-0

HELENA: LHP Mitch Stetter vs. Billings (Reds) at home, 8:00 PM, must win, Mustangs lead series, 1-0.

Commitments will keep me from checking in and updating anything but the tail end of the Helena game. We invite all our readers (and my fellow Brewerfan staff members) to use this thread, please, to provide any updates this afternoon. Hopefully it will be good news all around.

I'll be unavailable as well... I'm feeling the need to torture myself by accompanying 30,000 Cubs fans to Miller Park this afternoon. Best of luck to the Stars, Snappers, and Rookie-Brewers, though... we'll all need some goods news after enduring another day of Wrigley Field North!

SWEEEEET!!!! Bruso and Saenz: two more reasons to love the farm system.

This is great to hear coming off the abomination that occurred today at Miller Park. I guess I can be happy again http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif .

Beloit Site Game Summary:

Beloit 4, Clinton (Rangers) 3

Best of three series tied, 1-1

With their backs against the ropes, the Beloit Snappers bounced back and fought their way back into the best of three divisional series with the Clinton LumberKings. The LumberKings came out and got on the board quickly in the first, taking a 1-0 lead on Calvin Carpenter and the Snappers. But the Snappers came right back in the first as Kennard Bibbs walked to lead-off the inning and then stole second base. Callix Crabbe then walked and he and Bibbs pulled a double steal to put runners on second and third with no one out. Tony Gwynn, Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game, 1-1. After Prince Fielder flew out, Rickie Weeks knocked an RBI single to make it 2-1 Snappers.

The score remained 2-1 until the sixth. In the top of the sixth, Craig Ringe got a one-out single to ignite the LumberKings offense and Jose Gonzalez followed with a single and advanced to second as the Snappers attempted to get Ringe at third. With runners on second and third, Forrest Martin entered the game for Eric Henderson and promptly struck out Cameron Coughlan. Chris O'Riordan, Friday night's hero against Kane County, stepped to the plate against Martin. Martin unleashed a wild pitch scoring Ringe to tie the game, 2-2. O'Riordan then singled, knocking in Gonzalez to give the LumberKings a 3-2 lead.

Again facing adversity, the Snappers answered. Crabbe walked again, chasing starter Sixto Urena from the game in favor of Brandon Luna. Luna was greeted with a Gwynn single and a Fielder bloop single which tied the game, 3-3. After Weeks struck out swinging, Travis Hinton walked to load the bases for Jeff Eure. Eure did his job and lifted a fly ball to deep right to score Gwynn with the go-ahead run, 4-3.

Martin would settle down nicely and silence the LumberKings in the seventh and eighth innings before giving way to Bo Hall in the ninth. Hall pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to nail down the save. The Snappers evened the best of three series at a game apiece. Game three will be played on Monday, September 8 at Pohlman Field in Beloit at 7:00 p.m. Nick Masset will take the hill for Clinton against Beloit's Dennis Sarfate. The winner will move on to face the Lansing Lugnuts in the Midwest League Championship Series.

Winning Pitcher: Martin, 1-0

Losing Pitcher: Luna, 1-1

Save: Hall, 1

So when the Snappers face Lansing in the finals, there will be no audio available from either team. Pretty much an embarassment for the folks in the Midwest League central office. Toby, get down there with a paper cup and string or something! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

First off great game by the Snappers. Some of my notes for the game. The homeplate umpire had a VERY small strike zone. VERY small. Which led to Carpenter being chased early as he was throwing too many balls and Money moved on to Henderson.

Hinton made a nice catch in right field early on. Ball hit to Right center and Hinton came over and made a nice sliding catch. It'd be nice to have a corner of prospect with some power to go with Nelson. Here's to Travis and improving along the way.

1st inning easy steal by Bibbs. Crabbe walked....Double steal nicely executed. I don't care what anyone says but having base stealing threats like Bibbs, Crabbe, Gwynn, Weeks makes a world of difference on the offense. Once Bibbs was on base the pitcher was constantly looking over there which led to a 3-0 count on Crabbe and subsequently put him on base. Happened all game.

Pedro had a horrible error in the first as he tried to pick a guy off first and the ball was about 10 feet over Prince's head AFTER he jumped. Runner advanced to 3rd and eventually scored.

Eric Henderson pitched nicely as he came in, bases loaded no outs and proceeded to induce a popout, K, and popout to get out of the jam. Last popout was a foul ball over towards the Deck area and Prince ran it down and backpeddled to make a tough catch on a slicing ball.

4th inning Henderson had a pick off....turned into a run down with Prince making a nice fake to 2nd and the runner ran into Prince's arms.

Forrest Martin deserves player of the game nod as he was on fire. K Martin as some call him.

Crabbe really worked the count every at bat drawing a couple walks.

The 2nd base umpire had a horrible game....twice he made bum calls. Pedro tried stealing 2nd.....was beat by a few steps but the 2 bagger never tagged him. Crabbe attempted a steal and it was close....Callix slide in and the 2nd bagger caught the ball....and basically just swung his arm and the ump called him out. There was about a foot and a half in between his glove and Callix. Horrible call.

Hall came in and was lights out.....Terni made a great play. He charged a light hit grabbing the ball on the edge of the grass bare handed and tossed to Prince for the 2nd out. Nice play.

50/50 is rigged...has to be.

Best chicken dance goes to.......Goofy Joe!

Best haul goes to my cousin Jordon (Little Farley) as he got gum, a ball and a t-shirt.

Also a Cecil sighting.

Good luck Dennis tomorrow and Go Snappers.

In progress: Helena 2, Billings (Reds) 1, bottom of the 6th in Helena

LHP Mitch Stetter has been strong but has also tempted fate, with plenty of baserunners, especially in the early innings; link is in the Daily Menu leading off the thread -- it's now 9:30 Central -- listen in as the strong Helena bullpen (sounds like it will be Ty Taubenheim in soon) attempts to close the deal...

This had the possibility of being the last Link Report of the year this morning -- at least that won't be the case! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I've been wondering about Hinton. He had a terrible first half, but then we find out he was coming back from (shoulder?) surgery. He's had a pretty good second half and he's shown some power. Could he have a Gemoll-like rise next season?
