Saguaros 7, Javelinas 6

It's only 27 AB's, but Kade Johnson's having a nice fall, with an OPS of .971; David Krynzel reached base twice and stole a base; Rickie Weeks had a base hit and sac fly, but was caught stealing for the first time in seven attempts and committed his eighth error in 14 games in the field.

Ramon Nivar (TEX) slid under the tag of catcher Jim Horner (SEA) for the game winning run as the Saguaros scored four times in the bottom of the ninth and came from behind as the Saguaros edged the Javelinas 7-6 at the Peoria Sports Complex.

In a game that featured three errors and sloppy defense from both teams, only one of the Saguaros? seven runs was earned. Saguaros starting pitcher Nick Regilio (TEX) pitched five strong innings and allowed two hits, one walk and one run while striking out seven. Marlins prospect Lincoln Holdzkom pitched the ninth inning to earn his first victory of the season. Gary Majewski (CWS) pitched only one-third of an inning and was roughed up for three hits and four runs (none earned) and took the loss for the Javelinas.

Byron Gettis (KC) and Hunter Brown (SEA) led the offensive attack for the Javelinas as each went yard in the game and combined to drive in and score half of the team?s six runs.

Saguaros 11, Javelinas 3

Only one Brewer played, but boy, did he ever. For the second time in less than a week, LF Brad Nelson reached base five times in a game, Saturday stroking four singles and drawing a walk. While Brad's got his OBP up to .333 after a tough start, only one of his 17 base hits thus far has gone for extra bases (a double). Looking forward to him ripping with average and power again when his Huntsville season opens up in April; next game on Monday -- audio broadcast on Tuesday...

The Saguaros sent 10 batters in the top of the sixth inning and scored six runs on five hits as the Saguaros defeated the Javelinas 11-3 at the Peoria Sports Complex. In the inning, the Saguaros scored all six runs on a two RBI single by J.J. Furmaniak (SD), back-to-back sacrifice fly RBI?s from Padres prospects Rico Washington and Jake Gautreau and back-to-back RBI doubles by Adrian Gonzalez (TEX) and Chris Aguila (FLA).

Expos prospect Chris Schroder took the loss for the Javelinas as he was tagged for five hits and six runs (five earned) in just two-thirds innings pitched. Alan Webb (SD) allowed one run in three relief innings to even his record to 1-1 on the season.

Gautreau, Furmaniak and Brad Nelson (MIL) were the three offensive stars for the Saguaros as they combined to go 10-for-13 (.769) with five RBI?s and six runs scored. Nelson led all hitters, going a perfect 4-for-4 on the day.

White Sox prospect Aaron Miles led the Javelinas offense going 3-for-4 with two singles, a triple, one RBI and a run scored. Javelinas catcher Jim Horner (SEA) also added two hits including a double and scored a run in the game.

Saguaros 9, Desert Dogs 8

Good day all around for the four Brewer bats; Tuesday's game is available via mlb.com audio at 2:00 PM Central; broadcasts are archived, so we can check in later if a Crew member does something spectacular; Ben Hendrickson was not listed as the probable starter...

A passed ball allows Adrian Gonzalez (TEX) to reach base and cap off a five run rally as the Saguaros come from behind to defeat the Desert Dogs 9-8 at the Peoria Sports Complex. In the eighth inning, the Saguaros sent 10 men to the plate and scored five runs on an RBI double by Jon Knott (SD), a single by Rickie Weeks (MIL) driving in Kade Johnson (MIL) and Knott and an error on Desert Dogs pitcher Mike Johnston (PIT) bringing home Dave Krynzel (MIL).

The Desert Dogs took the lead in the top of the fourth inning when they also sent 10 batters to the plate, but exploded for six runs on four hits and four walks. Nick Swisher (OAK) started the scoring when he doubled to the gap in left field, scoring Dan Johnson (OAK) and Jeremy Owens (BOS). After a Tony Schrager (BOS) walk to load the bases, Pirates prospect Chris Duffy was walked to force in a run. Rich Thompson?s (PIT) RBI single drove in Corey Smith (CLE) to give the Desert Dogs a 4-3 lead. After Freddie Bynum (OAK) struck out for the second out of the inning, Pirates prospect J.R. House single driving in Duffy and Schrager to give the Desert Dogs a 6-4 lead.

Saguaros reliever Leonard Dinardo (NYM) pitched the final two innings and earned his first win of the season.

Desert Dogs 7, Saguaros 1

Not a lot of Brewer "stuff" here, as was the case in the Saguaros' first mlb.com audio game. I may check out the archived ninth inning later on to hear what they're saying about Tim Bausher...

Pirates prospects Rich Thompson and J.R. House each had two hits in the game to lead the Desert Dogs offense as they defeated the Saguaros 7-1 in Mesa. The Desert Dogs scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a base hit to right field by Dan Johnson (OAK) scoring Freddie Bynum (OAK), a sacrifice fly by Nick Swisher (OAK) and a RBI double to center by Kelly Shoppach (BOS) scoring Johnson.

The Saguaros had a good day defensively as Drew Meyer (TEX) and Chris Aguila (FLA) each had an outfield assist which killed two Desert Dog rallies and prevented additional runs from scoring.

Saguaros starting pitcher Kyle Evans (CLE) allowed three hits and only one earned run in five innings to pick up the win and improve his record to 3-1 on the season. Relievers Todd Pennington (CLE), Chris Mabeus (OAK) and Bryan Hebson (BOS) showed dominance on the mound and shut the door on the Saguaros offense as they combined to throw four shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Not Brewers related, but Reds Outfielder Dernell Stenson--hitting .394/.453/.500 for the Fall League's Scottsdale Scorpions--passed away sometime after Tuesday's game. Apparently they began worrying when he failed to show up to BP. Tonight's Scorpions game was cancelled due to the tragedy.

So everyone, please keep him, his family, teammates, etc in your prayers.

I have no details yet, and I have not heard anything on the news yet. I just know what I reported earlier.

Edit: well, I have heard more, but I don't know what all is appropriate. What I hear is that his entire team was at a bar last night, and when they left he went back in for something. That's the last any of his teammates saw him. Apparently some sort of argument ensued, leading to him later being shot and killed, with his car being left in another part of town (not sure if he was with it). Those are supposedly facts. Anything beyond that that I've heard is rumor, and I'm sure we'll hear lots about it on Sportscenter and espn.com.

Terrible events regardless of the details.

That is indeed unpleasant news...

The latest Ben Hendrickson article was very interesting to me. I guess that I have been worrying all season long about Ben developing some sort of chronic elbow problems, or falling victim to some sort of injury plague. Hearing that his injury was in large part due to slipping on the mound is some comfort to me. On the other hand though, I can't believe that our system is ignoring the minor league pitchers pitch counts to the point that they would allow him to make such a significant jump in pitches over a short period of time, causing the initial injury. Ben just really excites me... I think that he is going to be a solid #2 to back up our higher ranking #2 (Sheets).
