Saguaros win again, 9-4.

Ben Hendrickson goes 3 innings, allows 2 hits. No walks, no strikeouts.

Krynzel is 1 for 5 with an RBI. Strikes out twice.

Rickie Weeks is hitting .500 after going 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI. He struck out once. He played 2B, and did not commit an error http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

The complete box score is up at baseball america...but I don't know how to paste it in (gets all un-aligned)

From Baseball America, Brewerfan's Official Source for AFL Box Scores http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif :

Saguaros turn five double plays yet still lose 12-1; Kade Johnson with a 1.245 OPS after 11 plate appearances (love those small samples!) -- don't think he put together three consecutive offensive games like that while at Huntsville; RHP John Novinsky has been scored upon in each of his three outings, while RHP Tim Bausher has not been scored on at all; CF David Krynzel's single drove in the only Peoria run; RHP Ben Hendrickson gets the start on Thursday...

Though Rickie did commit an error, it is somewhat heartening to see that he was a part, in liklihood, of a good portion of those 5 double plays....game-time situations in which he learns that footwork will be crucial, and is why he is participating in this league in the first place.

The Saguaros are off today (Friday). Obviously, the probable starters listed for Thursday earlier in the week were incorrect, as Ben Hendrickson didn't get Thursday's start, which is good, given the lopsided loss.

David Krynzel did find a way to contribute in Thursday's game:

The Desert Dogs got on the board in the bottom of the third when J.R. House (PIT) blasted a triple into deep center field. Nick Swisher (OAK) hit a single to left, which scored House to tie the game 1-1. J.T. Stotts (OAK) singled and Rich Thompson (PIT) dropped a bunt in front of the catcher to reach first safely and load the bases. Rodney Choy-Foo (CLE) came to the plate and belted a double into left field to score Swisher and Stotts. Thompson was thrown out at home on a bullet by Saguaros outfielder Dave Krynzel (MIL) for the first out of the inning and advanced Choy-Foo to third. Johnson blasted a double off the batters eye to score Choy-Foo for the fourth and final run of the inning.

game was rained out today

There are two Peoria teams; the one with the Brewers' kids wasn't scheduled to play...

J.J. Hardy's debut with Team USA in the AFL was a bit less than scintillating; starting at SS and hitting ninth, Hardy struck out in each of his three plate appearances -- just shaking the rust off, no doubt...

Saguaros get back on track, 8-3

Rickie Weeks gets in a game at SS -- gets on base twice via BB and HBP, OBP of .417 in six games; day off for Krynzel, Nelson, and Johnson; Ben Hendrickson gave up his first run of the year on a first-inning HR ball to Tampa Bay's Jonny Gomes -- Ben's only allowed seven baserunners in eight innings, off to a fine start; as usual, it's a Sunday off for all AFL teams...

Team USA cruised, 16-1, over Scottsdale

J.J. Hardy came in as a replacement at SS later in the game and went 0-for-2, striking out once. Hardy is 0-for-5 with 4 K's thus far. Mike Rouse, the team's other SS, is now 4-for-7 with a double and HR. And yes, it's silly to try to read anything into five AB's other than saying that at least four of them weren't very good http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif .

Rickie looked good at short made a few plays .Ben pitched well execpt for a pitch.Small crowd only about 100 people, I was the pnly one cheering for the Brew crew guys.Dana knew Brad and Ben from his time in Az so he got a hello in.It was also good to see Delmon Young play and other former 1st round pick adrain Gozales he can flat out hit the ball.

Besides bieng hot( and missing one of my kids games) it was a great to see so many great players on one field .

Hey Mike, can you give me an idea of the basic AFL environment? Are all games at night? Is there as much pre-game activity(hitting & fielding) as there would be before a normal minor league game? Do you have to pay admission? Do people take fewer chances with their body(diving for balls, breaking up double plays, stealing bases, blowing over catcher at the plate) during these games? Just a few things off the top of my head. Anything else that you can think of that is noteworthy would be appreciated. As you can tell, I've never been to such a game but always wondered about these things.

Almost all games are at 1:05 mon -Sat sundays are off days I was very surprised that they play during the 90-100 degree heat.

Dont know about the pre game I got there 5 min before game time because my kid was playing. But I would assume that it would be the same as any other minor league game if someone collects autograph they would be in heaven like I said there was less than 100 people there with 20 of those are scouts.

$ 5.00 to get in cheap I thought.

Yes they protect ,not a lot of hard play, a play at home was they walked into the tag. Not a lot of hustle between innings . They were pretty loose even laughing at the home plate umpire when he tossed one of the managers.

But my overall impression was I thought it was great and I wish I could of gone to more except it was hot. I might be going back in a couple of weeks for a nother long weekend.

Saguaros 3, Javelinas 2

In the seventh inning, Jon Knott?s (SD) one out single drove in Chris Aguila (FLA) and Adrian Gonzalez (TEX) and broke a 1-1 tie as the Saguaros defeated the Javelinas 3-2 in Peoria. With the victory, the Saguaros trail the idle Solar Sox by just one game in the American Division.

For the Saguaros, Jake Gautreau (SD) and Dave Krynzel (MIL) had strong games at the plate as they combined to go 4-for-7 with three singles, one RBI and a stolen base.

Javelinas starting pitcher Neal Cotts (CWS) looked strong on the mound, as he pitched five strong innings, allowed three hits and only one run while striking out four. Saguaros reliever Franklin Francisco (TEX) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn his first victory. Tim Bausher (MIL) pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save.

What's up with Bauscher? Has anyone seen him pitch down there? Has he improved his secondary pitches? The guy has the arm, but usually all you have to do is sit dead red on a straight plane. He was very unimpressive at the end of the year for the Snappers.

Lend...go back in the thread to the first game...I posted on Bausher then. I wanna go again, but it's been 95 out, so in a concrete bowl it'd be about 110. I'll definitely be at that night game coming up on the 29th.

My buddy works in the league...he said he thinks Krynzel's stance severely restricts him. He then asked, does he strike out a lot....so a slightly trained eye can see this. I think he felt the bat was held too high.

As for Hardy, he thinks he's legit. He saw him play good defense and have several shots that were robbed. One was a diving stop and the other was a throw from deep in the hole. He thinks not only will he be a stud, but that he'll hit over .300 for a long time to come. I hope to see him soon. Maybe I'll brave the heat tomorrow.
