Link Report for Sun. 4/18 -- Tough Act To Follow!

MassBrew

I find it rather funny that a kid(Macias) from a 2-8 team states no pitcher in the league will stop them. They haven't exactly lit up the Snappers the last two nights.

I have a curiousity question for you boys about a possible change in the Brewers philosophy with minor league players at the upper levels. This question is borne out of our recent release of Matt Parker. I know darn well he is better than several of our Huntsville bullpen pitchers. He was a AA All-Star last year. Milwaukee could have easily have sent him to AA and replaced Rivard, for instance. Are we releasing our players strictly for THEIR sake upon making the in-house determination that the player cannot serve OUR major league team even though they could greatly help a minor league affiliate? While we will never know the true reasoning, that was supposedly the motivation for releasing Luis. I guess I just have a hard time accepting these players being released when Giron is allowed to float between AA and AAA at a much more advanced age. On the other hand, if we are supposedly doing things for the good of the individual, that is somewhat admirable.

I was at the Indianapolis/Richmond game on Sunday. Notice in the boxscore that both Adams and Michalak hit for themselves. Michalak in particular - he led off the bottom of the 10th with the Tribe down 8-6! Was there a reason why a pinch-hitter did not come up in this situation? When Adams batted a couple innings before, there were two out and none on, so that's a little more understandable, I suppose.

Lend, I think there is an amount of "there's no use hanging onto a guy if we don't think he has a future here" going on. I disagree with it, in almost all cases, as it simply weakens the system. As you say, Parker is pretty obviously better than some guys at AA/high A, and isn't that old.

Is it admirable? Only if none of those players allowed to walk for nothing ever make it. As even guys like Mike Buddie are worth something, I hate getting nothing for guys that are picked up within 24 hours. If nothing else, pick up a hard thrower the other team is close to giving up on and send them to extended spring.

Well it looks like they used up all their position players in the game. To me, it looks like they didn't feel the need to hit for Adams, then the next time through the order, they had no one left to pinch-hit for Michalak. They just didn't plan for extra innings.
