Actually, I just wasn't impressed with Rottino's swing. If you watch him from behind, he falls off to right field(doesn't come straight at the pitcher). Watching him from my normal 3B dugout vantage point gave the appearance of someone with an off-balance swing. I must now amend that to say he basically has a right-field stroke. I think he can be hurt with inside pitches. In fact, during his first at-bat yesterday, he got tied up with a inside fastball for strike three. No question, though, the kid has proven he can provide some pop. Yeah, Terry, can hit the ball out of the infield, but he has been up against some pretty bad lefties the last couple of days. I'm going to leave the jurors in the room on him. The Snappers have played one good team(Lansing) so far and didn't fare well overall and offensively. If they plate some runs against Cedar Rapids and Kane County(current division leaders) during a mid-May homestand, I will officially(happily) backoff on my stance on their offense. Actually, Murray's injury has "helped" the team in that Acosta, who began on the bench, is a far superior offensive player. I hate to say Moss' injury helped, as well, but gosh you can't help but improve upon the numbers he was providing. Long story short, today's Snapper team is a little different/better from the one that played on days one and two.

Lend, I think your entire post was a pretty fair assessment overall, I just think you were a little overly harsh with your original take on Rottino and Trofolz.

I won't argue that yesterdays starter was terrible. I watched him warm up in the pen for a bit and he threw 6 straight curveballs above the belt before he actually placed one below the knees. His catcher was kinda gettin' on his case for that. True to form, he hung SEVERAL breaking balls over the course of the first 3-4 innings that were really hammered. He also was throwing a changeup, but the arm motion was pretty easy to read, just from the beer deck.

Hey, that's why these guys are in Low A ball, right?

Is anyone else listening to the Indy game? Childers is on the mound not Hendrickson does anyone know why?

nevermind, I guess Ben is going to pitch tomorrow. I thought he was going today. No worries.

Just tuned into the game. They said Hendrickson is starting tomorrow. Interesting that they bumped him today. No explanation why. Supposedly it is sprinkling in Louisville tonight. Maybe they didn't want him to go on a wet mound?

Final: Game One - Huntsville 2, Tennessee (Cardinals) 1, 8 innings (scheduled for seven)

Final: Game Two - Tennesse 5, Huntsville 3

Huntsville Site Doubleheader Summary:

Huntsville and Tennessee split a doubleheader at Joe Davis Stadium Monday afternoon. The Stars pulled out a 2-1, extra-inning win in game one, and Tennessee (9-9) took game two, 5-3. Huntsville (9-7) moved one-half game in front of Birmingham in the Southern League West.

The Stars trailed 1-0 into the sixth inning of game one, when Prince Fielder launched his fourth homer of the year, a solo shot to deep right-center that tied the game, 1-1. The monstrous homer set up Huntsville for its fourth straight come-from-behind win. Fielder finished game one 3-for-4, and his eighth-inning single sparked the winning rally.

After Stars reliever John Novinsky pitched out of a first-and-third, none-out jam in the top of the eighth ? Fielder started a crucial double play by fielding Dan Moylan?s chopper, stepping on first and catching Skip Schumaker in a rundown between third and home ? Huntsville loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the inning. Chris Barnwell?s come-backer forced out Fielder at the plate, but Joel Alvarado won the game with a squeeze bunt, scoring Johnny Raburn with the deciding run.

Novinsky (3-0) won his third straight decision, permitting two hits in a scoreless frame. Josh Kinney (0-2) suffered his second loss, giving up one run on three hits and one walk in 1/3 inning.

Game two went back and forth, with Huntsville leading 1-0 and 2-1 before Tennessee seized control with a three-run fifth. Nate Espy slammed a two-run homer off reliever Ryan Miller ? Espy homered twice in the game, his first two of the season ? then three straight walks, two by Miller and an intentional walk, loaded the bases with two outs. Pitcher Luis Martinez, 0-for-4 with four strikeouts on the season as he batted, lined a run-scoring single to left for a 4-2 Smokies lead.

Kade Johnson?s third homer of the year, a solo drive to left, brought Huntsville within 4-3. Johnson went 4-for-4 in game two with a stolen base and two runs scored. Jon Hamilton closed the scoring with a sixth-inning solo homerun, his second of the season and series, to put the Smokies up, 5-3.

Luis Martinez (3-1), an all-star with Huntsville last season, picked up his third straight win, allowing six hits and three runs while walking five and fanning five over five innings. Miller (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on one hit and two walks in 1/3 inning.

Huntsville goes to Chattanooga to open a four-game series against the Lookouts Tuesday night, with righty Dennis Sarfate (0-0, 5.63) meeting Chattanooga right-hander Seth Etherton (3-0, 1.06). Game time is 6:15 p.m. CT, and the FPH Financial Pre-game Show begins at 6:00 p.m.

Since I have been ripped(perhaps too strong of a word) for being down on Gwynn, it is nice to know his own dad thinks he has major flaws in his swing.

I read it as his dad saying his swing flaws were simple. Many major leaguers try to hit off their front foot. Great hitters, like Bonds and Gwynn, hit off their back foot

Indianapolis Game Summary:

Matt Belisle, recently named the International League?s Pitcher-of-the-Week (April 19-25), held Indianapolis scoreless for the game?s first six innings Monday night as Louisville (7-10) defeated Indianapolis (10-5), 6-2.

Belisle (2-2) pitched 7.2 innings and allowed one Indianapolis earned run. He surrendered six hits, walked two Indians and struck out four visitors.

While Belisle kept the Indians in check, Louisville received timely hitting from left fielder Steve Smitherman. Smitherman plated the first run of the game, scoring on Dane Sardinah?s triple off Tribe starter Matt Childers in the Bats? second inning.

Smitherman finished the game two for four, including a key two-run double in the home fifth inning.

?I?ve been struggling lately,? said Smitherman. ?I was trying to see a good pitch to hit. I was able to get good wood on a couple of balls and it paid off for us tonight.?

Indianapolis pitcher Matt Childers (2-2) received his first start of the season. Childers pitched well for four innings, allowing the single Louisville run in the second.

The Bats knocked Childers out of the game in the fifth inning with a two-out rally. Felipe Lopez started the four-run burst with a single, then scored on Tim Hummel?s RBI double. Jim Chamblee added an RBI single before Smitherman smashed a two-run double off Tribe reliever Dan Reichert.

Indianapolis scored a pair of runs in the eighth. Matt Erickson had an RBI single, scoring Luis Figueroa with the Tribe?s first run. Erickson later scored when Smitherman bobbled a Chris Magruder base hit.

The two clubs complete a two-game road series Tuesday. Indianapolis will send Ben Hendrickson (2-0, 1.10) against Louisville starter Brandon Claussen (0-1, 3.31).

Is the earth rotating properly when Kade goes 4-4 and, of all people, Luis Martinez gets a crucial hit, all in the same night? I think I will sleep with one eye open tonight.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Madbad, just curious what your thoughts on Villaneuva. I personally thought of this start as a crucial appearance for him. Statistically, he did not fare well against a poor hitting team. It may be time to demote him to the pen or send him back to extended spring training. He has yet to put together a decent outing. What do you think?

Also, I really like Robby Deevers. He is one of the few Snappers who has the ball jump off his bat(others would be Palmisano and Anderson). He has a cannon for an arm in right. He made an absolutely perfect throw to home during the last home game against Peoria about a week ago that saved a run and forced extra innings. Personally, I would love to see him play more and/or be the DH.

Madbad, was the wind blowing out again tonight? Drew normally doesn't elevate the ball enough to hit one out. Just curious if he got a line drive into a jet stream.

Thanks for your input.

lend d money,

I didn't go tonight but wanted to. Well at my house a few miles north it would have been blowing towards right field but not as bad as Sunday. I've yet to SEE Villanueva pitch but I agree his lines aren't looking very good. There are plenty of other options on that Beloit staff that have looked good.

I also have to back you up on Deevers. When he was playing instead of Moss the ball was jumping. If it weren't for Marks having a few good games Deevers might get some more PT. Hopefully last night proved to Money he should get some. I'll stand by my comments that the Beloit outfield will have a big year.

I'll be there tonight though for sure...can't miss a Kloosterman start.
