And, within minutes, we have the image of Prince's homeplate charge here at Brewerfan, coutesy of the Chattanoogan, in our most timely photo report ever!

Prince Fielder bowls over Lookout catcher Brian Peterson as he crosses home plate. The ball had bounced away from Peterson and as he stood up, Fielder hit him head on. Huntsville grabbed a 5-0 lead in the first inning over Chattanooga in Thursday's game.

DLR left the game in the third inning. He must be injured or something they didn't have any word on it. He was taking warm up pitches and stopped. Not sure why, they went to regular scheduled program now and I am not going to be able to listen anymore. Anyone who can listen see if they say anything about it.

In the "I'm not making this up category":

The game in Indianapolis was delayed prior to the top of the fourth for 20 minutes because Tribe first baseman Jeff Liefer was locked in the clubhouse bathroom.

Really.

This will probably get picked up by the national media. He'll never live this down. de la Rosa is fine..

Yikes...

de la Rosa with another short outing, only 3.1 IP...

It didn't sound like JDLR was given extra warmup throws after the Liefer debacle.

He walked the leadoff man in the 4th on four pitches.

After a strikeout, JDLR gave up a triple to right -- actually, it was a short fly ball that Corey Hart charged and allowed to get past him.

Regardless, JDLR isn't exactly racking up the innings...

Final: Louisville (Reds) 9, Indianapolis 0

Indianapolis Game Summary:

Jung Keun Bong shut down the Indianapolis Indians (12-6) Thursday night as Louisville (8-12) defeated the Tribe 9-0. Bong (2-2) also collected a hit, scored a pair of runs and recorded an RBI.

The 23-year-old Korean, who has pitched better on the road than at home this season, allowed five hits in eight innings pitched. He walked one and struck out seven.

Louisville scored two runs in the first off Tribe starter Jorge De La Rosa (0-2). Aaron Holbert doubled, then scored on a Felipe Lopez strikeout and wild pitch. Lopez later scored on an RBI single from Tim Hummel.

The Bats scored two more in the fourth, but not before a 13-minute delay. Apparently, Tribe first baseman Jeff Liefer was locked inside a clubhouse restroom.

Ray Olmeda tripled in Stephen Smitherman, who opened the frame with a walk. Then, Olmeda scored when center fielder Jon Nunnally dropped Bong?s fly ball.

In the sixth, Dane Sardinha singled, then scored on Bong?s triple to deep left center field to take a commanding 5-0 lead. The Bats added another run in the seventh off Indianapolis reliever Todd Erdos. Jim Chamblee walked, then scored on Smitherman?s double to left center.

Louisville continued to stretch the lead with three more runs in the eighth.

The Tribe begins a four-day, four game series with the Toledo Mud Hens starting Friday on Scooby-Doo Night at Victory Field. Indianapolis will send Matt Wise (1-0, 2.31) against Toledo?s John Ennis (2-2, 5.12).

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Game after game, by far, the best site summaries going -- announcer Robert Portnoy's doing, I believe, correct me if I''m wrong...

They say you can hear the echoes in an old ballpark, like historic Engels Stadium in Chattanooga. The city?s new venue, five-year-old Bell South Park, will resonate with the sounds of Thursday night. One of Huntsville?s shining Stars, first baseman Prince Fielder, delivered a pair of blows for the ages in the Stars? 8-3 win over the Lookouts (12-9) at Bell South Park. The Stars (11-8) pushed one game in front of Birmingham atop the Southern League West.

With the bases loaded and one out in the first, Fielder tried to score from second on Brad Nelson?s drive to right. All three runners had to wait, as Lookout Andrew Beattie had the ball graze his glove in the rightfield corner. Ryan Knox scored from third, and Fielder trailed behind him. The relay throw beat Fielder to the plate, and the ball popped out of catcher Brian Peterson?s glove just before impact. Fielder leveled Peterson with a clean hit, one of the hardest anyone will ever see on a baseball diamond. A testament to toughness and courage, Peterson withstood the blow and remained in the game.

With Huntsville up 6-2 in the seventh, Fielder delivered again, this time with his bat. One of those rare players who draw a crowd on the road, Fielder gave the fans what they paid to see. With father Cecil Fiedler watching from the front row, Prince launched a monstrous two-run homer, just to the right of the batter?s eye in dead centerfield, his fifth of the season and first at Bell South Park.

The Stars took control of the game two pitches after Fielder laid out Peterson in the first. Kade Johnson slammed a three-run homer to left, his fourth of the year, for a 5-0 first-inning lead. In the sixth, Nelson highlighted his night with a run-scoring triple, his first of the season.

Chris Saenz (2-1), fresh off six shutout innings and a victory for Milwaukee in a spot start against St. Louis, pitched five solid innings, allowing five hits and two runs while fanning two for his second win. Former big leaguer Brian Rose (0-1) suffered the loss, permitting five runs on four hits over five frames. Stars newcomer Fernando Rijo tossed two innings, giving up three hits and one run while singling and scoring in his only plate appearance. Huntsville relievers Brian Adams and Roberto Giron each authored one scoreless inning.

Huntsville righty Tim Bausher (1-1, 1.80) meets Lookouts righty Luke Hudson, a former big leaguer making his first start for Chattanooga after shoulder surgery wiped out his 2003 season. Game time is 6:15 p.m. CT.

David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com Huntsville update:

The Stars have now won eight of their last 11, while hitting .268 --- a mark I can live with considering they've averaged over five runs a game over that period. They've made just two errors in their last six games. Ten doubles, five HRs. Can't complain about the thunder coming from those bats lately.

But if only the pitching news were that bright........ No, not that they're giving away games. In their last 11, the staff has assembled a bright 2.78 ERA and the bullpen alone, 3.09........ The Stars have been desperate for bodies for an upcoming schedule that is bound to put a strain on what's already available........ Reggie Rivard went up to Indianapolis and now Ryan Miller has gone on the disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, with elbow soreness. Paul Stewart took one for the team in relief Monday, throwing 93 combined pitches in a four-inning stint. It showed. It was one of the roughest outings he had this season........

It doesn't end there. Mike Jones has been shut down for a week with the same problem and has gone to see the Brewers team physician in Milwaukee........ And ahead of them, back-to-back doubleheaders this weekend to put a further strain on the corps (and even those games are in doubt. All-day showers are in the forecast, ending Sunday.......

But the Stars are getting some help. Rivard has returned to reclaim his roster spot and the Brewers got us some pitching help........ The Montreal Expos owed us a player for Alejandro Machado, who was traded March 29, so joining the Stars today was Fernando Rijo, once a Dodger free-agent signee who was part of the Jacksonville Suns rotation in 2002, going 8-8 with a 3.74 ERA in 27 starts........ In fact, he faced the Stars twice that year, beating Paul Stewart, 13-1 on July 24, giving up four hits in seven innings, then losing to David Pember, 2-1 on August 4, again going seven innings........ Rijo threw 92-93 at best on his fastball, but other than that, it was an adventurous evening. He gave up a two-out RBI single to Dionys Cesar in the 7th inning, and finished the inning on an exciting play at the plate. I'll get to that later.

But Rijo's problems in the 7th didn't matter. By that time, he was protecting an 8-2 lead....... They would get all they need this night in the 1st inning.

With a threat of rain in the area, the Stars went to work quickly...... Ryan Knox hit a one-out double down the left field line. Prince Fielder then singled him to third with a base hit to right....... Rickie Weeks stood in and for the fourth time in his last four games, he gets plunked to load the bases........ With a 1-and-0 count and a five-game hitting streak on the line, Brad Nelson hit a high drive to the right field corner. The ball grazed off the glove of Andrew Beattie. Knox scores. Here comes Fielder and he's a dead duck, but Prince totally lays out catcher Brian Peterson. A clean hit. But when someone weighing 250-260 lbs. is barreling down the line on you like Engine No. 9 and you're just waiting there on the track ------- well, you could just hear the groans through the radio. Peterson was all right, though. But he'll remember Mr. Fielder......... Next up, the most prolific hitter in the lineup, Kade Johnson, 6-for-his-last 11, batting .483. Fulfilling all the promise thus far we had of a big bat coming to Huntsville........ Kade took a strike to the outside corner, then stung the ball high over the left field everything. Perhaps lost somewhere in the Tennessee River. That capped a five-run inning.

After a Travis Wilson homer off the scoreboard in left off Chris Saenz made it 5-2, the Stars put some more distance between them and Chattanooga in the 6th inning....... With one out, Weeks, healthy now after tweaking a hamstring, singled deep to right-center. Nelson, who nearly had a triple in the 1st inning (Beattie was given an error on the ball that glanced off his glove), hammered a 1-2 pitch off the Coca-Cola sign in centerfield. Weeks was waved in giving the Stars a 6-2 lead and Nelson slid into third......... In the top of the 7th, Prince crushed a 1-0 pitch to right-center for a 2-run bomb that made it 8-2, again before Papa Cecil, sitting in the front row. (I think Cecil should make more trips to see his son. He hit two HRs with Cecil either coming to or at Joe Davis Stadium earlier this year, and Wednesday, he thundered a double to right-center, capping off a 2-for-4 day)

In the bottom of the 7th, the Stars defense, superlative of late, became a factor....... With a run already in off newcomer Rijo, the bases were loaded and two out with Kenny Kelly at the plate. Fernando's 1-0 pitch to Kelly, who started the day at .415 with 13 RBIs, went back to the screen, but Kade Johnson, sliding at the wall, picked up the ball and while on a knee, whipped a high sidearm throw to Rijo protecting the plate. Home plate ump Brandon Bushee threw out Andy Beattie at the plate on a bang-bang call, even though RIjo had to bring his glove down to make the tag......... Chattanooga manager Jayhawk Owens came out to defend Beattie, who of course thought he got in there with a beautiful hook slide, but all that got was Owens tossed from the game.

Right-hander Tim Bausher (1-1, 1.80) will meet Chattanooga righty Luke Hudson, making his first start tomorrow. The Stars are now 6-2 on the road this year...... Hudson, 7-12 with a 4.20 ERA for the Carolina Mudcats in 2001, is coming back after shoulder surgery wiped out his 2003 season. Game time is 6:15 CDT........ Tony Gwynn, Jr. extended his hitting streak to 11 games, but he isn't setting the league on fire. His average actually went down in each of the last two games, now at .237. He is 15-for-52 (.288) during the streak with eight runs scored and three stolen bases........ Ryan Knox has five doubles for the season, and they've all come in his last eight games....... Kade Johnson is now 7-for-15 with two HRs and six RBIs in his last four games....... Chris Barnwell is 2-for-23 in his last seven games, but he's been more productive this April than he was last April, when he hit .185. He had six RBIs that month and he has nine so far with one more day left......... Roberto Giron will likely finish the month with four saves, the most for April since Mike Rossiter saved seven to start the 2000 season.

Mike Kusiewicz pitched a scoreless inning in his debut for High Desert, who lost tonight to Lake Elsinore, 11-1....... Kusiewicz, who pitched for the Tennessee Smokies in 2000, was signed by the Brewers last December, but I thought they had released him before spring training was over (they did, he was just re-signed -- MassBrew)......... Franklin Gracesqui, who pitched in 44 games for the Carolina Mudcats last year, picked up a save in his major league debut for the Florida Marlins last night......... Former Stars second baseman Steve Scarborough made a mound appearance for the Indianapolis Indians, also Thursday, pitching a scoreless 9th in a 9-0 Louisville victory.
