Link Report for Games of Tuesday, May 4th

No Fielder will likely spend the whole year in Huntsville. Even though he is tearing the cover off the baseball, the brewers will likely be patient with him. My guess is he will start out the year in AAA next year and be called up durring the year. With Overybay batting so well in Milwaukee right now and not eligable for arbitration for 3 years is just another reason for no need to rush him.

In progress: Charlotte (White Sox) 1, Indianapolis 1, 7th inning stretch time in Indy

Has anybody been listening to an actual Indy broadcast the past couple of weeks? Frustrating technology...

Here's the Charlotte audio link:

www.charlotteknights.com/.../index.htm

Don't have JDLR's final numbers yet, but Matt Wise and Chris Michalak (striking out a rehabbing Jose Valentin) snuffed a rally in the 7th.

Check out what could be a dandy finish.

Final: Charlotte (White Sox) 3, Indianapolis 1, 10 innings

Minor league vet RHP Todd Erdos isn't making many friends with Indy fans since his acquisition recently...

Indianapolis Game Summary:

Charlotte (13-13) prevailed in a pitcher?s dual Tuesday night at Victory Field, defeating Indianapolis (15-8), 3-1, in 10 innings. The Tribe is now 2-2 in extra innings affairs.

Tribe starter Jorge De La Rosa shut out Charlotte for three innings. In the fourth, the Knights got on the board first as Ryan Hankins doubled to left and scored on a bases loaded walk from Tribe reliever Matt Wise, who had just stepped in for De La Rosa.

Jeff Liefer then smashed his third homer in four days, over the right field wall, off Charlotte reliever Mitch Wylie, to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, 1-1.

Indianapolis threatened in the seventh off Wylie. Corey Hart beat out an infield single to deep shortstop to start the frame. He advanced to second on Scott Sheldon?s sacrifice bunt. Mark Johnson then hit a sharp line drive to left field. The left fielder, Mario Valenzuela, speared the ball, then threw a dart to shortstop Jose Valentin covering second to double up Hart.

In the ninth, Hart singled with two outs to center off Charlotte reliever Jose Santiago. He then stole second base, but Sheldon lined out to center to end the threat, sending the game into extra innings.

Indianapolis reliever Todd Erdos (0-1) entered the game in the 10th and was greeted by Mike Bell?s opposite field two-out, two-run homer, which proved to be the game winning hit.

"I try to do the same thing each time I go to the plate," said Bell. "I was looking to make contact and got a little lucky there."

Santiago (1-1) put down the Tribe in order in the bottom of the 10th to preserve the victory.

The two teams meet Wednesday as Indianapolis will send right-hander Travis Phelps (0-0, 9.00) against Charlotte right-hander Felix Diaz (4-0, 2.01).

Ryan Knox will join Indianapolis tomorrow as he has been recalled from Double-A Huntsville. Knox, 26, appeared in 23 games for the Stars. He hit .250 with one home run, 8 RBI and stole four bases. Knox hit .385 when leading off an inning with Huntsville and .286 with runners on base.

The 6-1, 190-pounder from Peoria, Ill., appeared in 36 games with Indianapolis last year. He hit .275 with no homers and 5 RBI and stole 17 bases.

David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com Huntsville update:

THE BREAKFAST CLUB

If there's to be an anthem for this series, it's to the hit batter........ In a six-game series where 14 batters were hit, including Rickie Weeks three times and Chris Barnwell twice, it's so fitting that Dwane Bacon's helmet went spinning on just the third pitch of the game from Chris Saenz........ I went through the boxes and couldn't find a greater concentration of hit batters in six games than this....... 12 in five games in August of 1996 was the closest I came to, but it wasn't just against one team, although this series didn't match the six hit batters in a single game that occured vs. Jacksonville on April 25, 1986.

Would you call this a beanball war? I recall in Monday's game the home plate ump taking a notebook out of his back pocket and writing something after Richard Lewis was hit. Maybe some fines will be forthcoming.........There's a guy you need to keep off the basepaths, and he hits him....... Bacon retaliated by stealing 2nd base. On a 3-1 pitch to Jemel Speaman, Saenz' throw to pick him off sailed high and away and Bacon made third........ So here we have the best control pitcher on the staff hitting a batter and then throwing the ball away after a string of 11 games in which the Stars had made only three errors....... Quite a peculiar start to this game.

It was probably lost on the more than 6,000 enthusiastic elementary and middle school kids who got a breather from school to have fun at the ballpark toward the end of their school year. One of them even brought his glove and made a catch in the first inning..... This turned out to be an incredibly successful promotion, for the lack of a better word, one that will certainly be repeated next year. It balanced out the poor weather-influenced show-up of Monday afternoon....... Even though the kids probably didn't know our best pitcher from a ham sandwich or care less about his pitching tendencies, they had fun yelling for one more strikeout under the radio booth, as one kid did, and that's all that counts....... They are baseball's future. Let them have fun.

Spearman walked to put runners on the corners with nobody out....... With a 1-0 count on Matt Creighton, Spearman broke for second. Joel Alvarado threw down but his bad throw got away, Bacon scored, and the Diamond Jaxx had a run on two errors without a ball getting out of the infield......... Did I say this game started out peculiar?........ The two errors in the first inning also broke a string of five consecutive games without an error, two short of the club record......... Despite the gift-wrapped run, Saenz got out of the inning without any further anomalies.

Hammond, Indiana left-hander Carmen Pignatiello, working on three days rest, got two quick outs in the 1st inning before walking Rickie Weeks....... Prince Fielder, on a .378 tear with five HRs and 10 RBIs over his last 11 games, hammered an 0-and-1 breaking ball to left-center field carrying over Bacon's head, an opposite-field bomb, and the Stars led, 2-1....... Prince came in as the Southern League's home run leader and 2nd in runs driven in, 3rd in slugging in his big leap to Double-A.

That was an ominous start........ In the 2nd inning, Enrique Cruz worked himself to a 2-2 count and breaking out of a 3-for-40 slump, hit a high drive to left-center again over the head of Dwane Bacon....... Saenz followed with a slice over the right field line that sneaked just over the corner inside the foul pole for the first home run hit by a Stars pitcher since Allen Levrault hit one off Chattanooga's Scott MacRae on May 11, 1999.

The Stars put this one in the hamper in the 4th inning after Johnny Raburn singled, the first of three hits for him. Weeks then reached on a throwing error allowing Raburn to go to third base and Weeks into second on the bad throw by Ronny Cedeno...... Prince Fielder was intentionally passed and in stepped Brad Nelson. Working on a ball and a strike, Nelly doubled down the left field line, scoring two to make it 6-1........ With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Chris Barnwell lined a ball to center field all the way to the wall for a triple --- his first as a Huntsville Star --- to drive in two....... Joel Alvarado's ground out scored Barney to cap the scoring, and giving the Stars, at the time, a 9-1 lead.

Saenz won his fourth straight start, if you count his win for Milwaukee two Saturdays ago. He lowers his ERA to 3.26 in 19 1/3 innings........ The Stars take Wednesday off so they can travel to Jacksonville to start their first southern swing of the year. Dennis Sarfate (1-2, 6.63) will face lefty Glenn Bott (1-2, 2.86), who has pitched in the California League the past two seasons........ The Stars need one more run to get their 14,000th in club history.

Ryan Knox, as expected, was promoted to Indianapolis. He received word after Monday's game. He did not play in today's 10-inning game against Charlotte....... Catcher Alex Delgado, returning from a family emergency in Puerto Rico, fills his spot on the roster, giving the Stars three catchers for the time being........ Knox was in a 2-for-17 slide at the time of his promotion....... Last year, he was mired in a 1-for-22 slump when he was promoted. He wound up finding the International League more to his liking, hitting .275 in 36 games, so I wouldn't worry about him. Knox may not be a multi-tool player, but he knows how to win and he'll be a real big asset to the Indians.

Final: High Desert 10, Lake Elsinore (Padres) 8

Mavericks almost wake us up on a sour note -- almost http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

High Desert Site Game Summary:

Hopefully the Mavericks can put up the sound bites from the two ninth-inning HR's up on their site, as they've done in the past -- please http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ...

EURE GOIN? HOME A WINNER!

Jeff Eure?s two-run bomb in the bottom of the ninth capped off a wild-finish for the High Desert Mavericks, rallying from down one run to beat the Lake Elsinore Storm, 10-8, before 1,649 at Mavericks Stadium on Tuesday night.

Eure?s heroics were preceded by John Vanden Berg?s game-tying homer two batters earlier, a solo shot to left for his second of the year that tied the score at 8 apiece and injected life back into the Maverick squad.

Evening up the series at a game apiece, the Mavericks (11-15) jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth inning. Entering the inning with the score tied at one, RBI singles by Kennard Bibbs and Ozzie Chavez put the Mavs out in front 4-1. Then Dan Boyd stepped to the plate and launched a three-run blast over the right-field wall putting the Mavericks into a seemingly comfortable lead.

David Bradley, who had been cruising along through the first five innings, ran into trouble as he gave up two runs on only two hits before getting Steve Baker to pop out with the bases loaded to end the Storm?s rally.

After a quick one-two-three bottom half of the sixth, Dan Kolb entered the game for the Mavericks and the Mavs four run lead quickly disappeared as the Storm rallied to plate four runners on just five hits, tying the game at seven.

In the eighth inning Lake Elsinore was able to take advantage of a couple of Maverick miscues to take the lead. Steve Baker reached base on an infield single. He then stole second base and was able to move up to third on an erroneous throw by Vanden Berg. Kolb, working from the windup, balked in Baker to put the Storm ahead for the first time setting the stage for Eure?s walkoff heroics off of Storm closer Mike Wodnicki.

Craig Breslow (1-0) picked up the win by pitching a scoreless ninth, while Wodnicki (1-1) took the loss.

The Mavs are back in action Wednesday night at Mavericks Stadium against Lake Elsinore for game three of the four-game set, with Forrest Martin (0-2) taking the hill for High Desert against counterpart Gabe Ribas (2-2).

Beloit Game Summary (Timber Rattlers' Site):

Ryan Feierabend won his fourth straight game as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the Beloit Snappers 8-2 Tuesday night. Evel Bastida-Martinez drove in three runs and Josh Ellison had three hits and scored three runs for the Rattlers.

Ellison started things off for the Rattlers with a lead off double in the first inning. Josh Womack followed one out later with an RBI double. An infield grounder by Bastida-Martinez knocked in a run and an RBI single by Chris Colton made it 3-0.

The Rattlers (11-14) added three more runs in the bottom of the second. Michael Cox had a sacrifice fly to drive in one. Bastida-Martinez plated two more with a single back through the middle to make the score 6-0. Wisconsin added to the lead with an RBI triple by Chris Colton in the fifth.

Beloit (11-14) got on the board with an RBI double by Lou Palmisano in the sixth. The run against Feierabend was the first he allowed at home in 16-2/3 innings. Feierabend worked seven innings and gave up just two runs on five hits.

A sacrifice fly by Chris Collins put Wisconsin up 8-1 in the sixth. The Snappers got another run on a solo homer by Robby Deevers in the top of the seventh.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night. Nibaldo Acosta (1-3, 2.28 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Luis Pena (2-0, 2.75 ERA) is slated to start for the Snappers. Game time is 6:35 pm.

How long before I should be concerned about de la Rosa stinking?

-----------

exactly. I thouhgt this guy was supposed to be a PROSPECT? Sure hasnt looked like one. Maybe he needs to go to AA or something. 6 walks in 4 and a third innings? Did he watch tape of Matt Kinney before the game?
