I was thinking it would be great if the Brewers had there 10AM start time AA affiliate up here in the Twin Cities, but then I'd never accomplish anything. Great for at work in 36 minutes!

In case you aren't listening, the Stars are up 2-1 after His Royal Highness hit HR #9 in the bottom of the first. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

Okay, the Stars must be aligned just the right way (pun intended) today because Cruz and Saenz just went back-to-back with HRs. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eek.gif

Prince is reaching Bonds-like stature, he was just intentionally walked to load the bases for Nelson with nobody out. Nelson makes them pay with a 2-run double, 6-1 Stars, men on 2nd & 3rd, still nobody out. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif

Barnwell with a 2-run triple (the CF misplayed it and let it get over his head), 8-1 Stars.

I know it's early, and a small sample, but should we be concerned with Weeks? .276 isn't a horrible average this early in the season, but the power number definitely worry me, especially when he is hitting behind or in front of Fielder.

I guess I wouldn't be worried at this point. He is getting on base pretty well and he is in his first full season of minor league ball. I'm sure Southern League pitching is a big step up from what he faced at Southern U. In any case, it's still very early in Rickie's career to be getting concerned with his power numbers.

I agree with deeswan. Despite going 0-3 today, he walked twice and scored 2 runs. Getting on base 2 out of 5 times will push his near .400 OBP closer to that .400 mark, despite a drop in BA.

Plus, I think he's going to catch fire very soon. It's tough for him to get those multi-hit games because he is so patient at the plate, not to mention getting plunked 7 times so far this year. He might start getting more pitches to hit with Nelson batting well behind him.

Great game, thanks for the updates. Let's hope that continues throughout the day!

I'm not particularily worried about Weeks, either. His numbers aren't great, but they are not terrible, either. Remember, this is his first full season of professional ball and he is in a pitchers league.

As an aside, one of the things that makes Fielders start so impressive is doing this in a pitchers league. Does anyone want to guess what sort of numbers he'd be putting up in the Cal Leauge about now?

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

In front of 6911 enthusiastic elementary and middle school children, the Stars (14-12) thumped West Tenn (11-14), launching three homers in the first two innings and sealing the game with a five-run fourth in a 9-3 win on Tuesday morning at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars earned a split of the six-game series with the Diamond Jaxx.

Prince Fielder homered for a league-high ninth time, slamming a two-run shot to left-center in the first, then eight-hitter Enrique Cruz and pitcher Chris Saenz launched consecutive solo shots in the second. In the fourth, Brad Nelson followed an intentional walk to Fielder with a two-run double to left, and Chris Barnwell tripled to dead center, scoring two more runs. Joel Alvarado?s groundout scored Barnwell for a 9-1 Stars lead.

Saenz won his fourth straight start, including three for the Stars and a spot start for Milwaukee. Saenz (3-1) permitted three runs, just one earned, on four hits and one walk while fanning six over five innings. Fernando Rijo, Ryan Costello and Paul Stewart combined to shut out the Jaxx over the final four innings.

Jaxx starter Carmen Pignatiello (2-1) suffered his first loss, surrendering nine runs, eight earned, on nine hits and four walks over four frames.

Huntsville travels to Jacksonville to start a four-game set with East leader Jacksonville. Righty Tim Bausher (1-2, 2.40) meets Suns left-hander Ryan Ketchner (2-0, 1.32). Game time is 6:05 p.m. CT.

Seven guys must be having a heck of a week to rank ahead of Prince Fielder in BA's Prospect Hot Sheet:

You probably could draw those names out of a hat, but let's see.

Justin Morneau is hitting .409/.456/.763 with 8 HRs at AAA.

Ubaldo Jimenez has a 1.50 ERA, 4 wins vs. no losses, and 44 Ks vs. 8 BBs in 30 IP in a hitters league. OTOH, it is A ball.

Jason Kubel is hitting .417/.479/.702 in AA.

Gavin Floyd has started 4 games at AA and has yet to allow a run. OTOH, it's only 17 IP, and his K rate, 14 Ks in 17 IP, isn't eyepopping.

David Wright is hitting .370/.482/.652, plays third base well, and has 10 stolen bases vs. 3 CS at AA.

Andrew Brown, 5 GS, 25 IP, 44 Ks (15.8 Ks/9) vs. 7 BBs, 2.52 ERA at AA.

John Maine, 5 GS, 28 IP, 34 Ks vs. 7 BBs, 2.25 ERA at AA.

Prince Fielder is hitting .322/.402/.655 with 8 HRs at AA, through yesterday. And the Southern League is a pitching league.

Mighty impressive group so far. You really can make a case for all of those hitters. I'm a little more skeptical of the pitchers, but it's sometimes hard to compare.

Robert
