Link Report for Games of Monday, May 3rd

Maybe he adjusted to AA hitters. Then again, Housman is only 22. I think he's going to turn out okay - maybe not a top of the rotation starter, but a solid #3 or #4 guy. Or he could be a great reliever out of the pen.

I love it. Filthyfrog expounds upon the theoretical construct of nicknames...and I think he's entirely right.

Back in the day, guys had nicknames like "Dizzy" and "Rube." Or "the Schnozz." Do you really think that William Ellsworth Hoy got to choose his nickname, and picked "Dummy"?

I really think Lord Oppenheimer's only chance to make it in the bigs is as a starter. And I do think greg is onto something. It would seem he has developed an "out" pitch in the offseason. My guess is it is his changeup. Would be nice if one of the Huntsville contingent could give us a little more info.

Apple-ton was very cold. The crowd looked like it was a Packers game, all in winter coats with hoods. Of course, I was in shorts, my usual May-October attire, but I did have my handy-dandy $5 Menard's seat cushion/blanket that I used from the 4th inning on.

Not much to say on Kloosterman, other than he looked like every other young lefty, wild. The speed gun didn't come on until the 4th, but he was throwing harder than the others, so I'd guess 88-90.

Sweet Lou looks like he knows what he's doing up there. The top 5 in the order all seemed like they understood the game, quite a dropoff after that. Adam Heether just drilled a 91 mph fastball to the wall in RC, by far the hardest hit ball I saw. Most pitchers were throwing 82-84 mph fastballs after the gun came on.

As I've said before, the scoring is just brutal. Errors given on throws off the mark at 1B...even though the runner looks to have beat the throw.

In the 7th inning, there were 105 people still there. Actually, there were 95, but I added 10%, as I figured some may have been in the restroom or concession stand.

Also, Chris Collins is the catcher for the Rattlers, and is a fan favorite. Perfect catcher build, 5-6 or 5-7 and so stocky you could just call him heavy. Still hope for those guys that aren't 6-3, 180.

Greg, I got to know him reasonably well last year. He was an outfielder most of his college career until his coach encouraged to become a pitcher. Unquestionably, he doesn't throw as hard as say Sarfate. However, he is generally around the plate. Bottom line: he hasn't spent a great deal of time as a pitcher. Therefore, I'm not sure what to expect from him.
