It is sweet to see Manny's name back in the pitching lineup. It may only be for a few innings, but we all need our Manny fix. And on the radio I said he'd be in the bigs next season, so he needs to get his pitch on. Today is a good day, indeed.

BTW, new Power 50 will be out late this evening.

Futurefan, nothing here as well. Has anybody contacted Indy management over this yet?

By the way, Rickie Weeks with his first AA home run, 1-0 Stars in the 4th at Jacksonville.

That should make one poster happy at least....

In progress: Lancaster (Diamondbacks) 6, High Desert 4, after three innings

Mavericks take advantage of walks to post a four-spot in the third -- only show in town, listen in at the Lancaster link provided in the follow-up post above..

"You have to be impressed with Parra's velocity, you can see why the Brewers like him, has that hard sinking slider"

- Jethawks' announcer

If Manny feels fine on Sunday AM, this outing was a success, regardless of the scoreboard...

I went out there and got to see Manny pitch 1 inning

I talked to the Mavricks relivers and they said he pitched well the wind was really blowing tonite and two fly ball outs turned into home runs....Thats the cal league esp Lancaster.

Then I talked to Forest Martin who was charting pitches nice guy by the way and he said that Manny topeed at 94 and was working 88- 92 for the most part and in the first inning almost every fastball was 90+ he also thought Manny pitched well and the numbers dont tell the real story.

Overall pretty good first time out ....Way to go Manny

Indianapolis "Quotes and Notes"

QUOTES:

Jack Cust, Ottawa (regarding two-run homer in fourth off Pedro Liriano):

"He (Liriano) was keeping me off balance," said Cust. "It wasn't a bad pitch that he threw, but I just really hit it well."

Cust on the cold weather (48 degrees game time):

"It actually was little warmer than our last series here," said Cust. "Once the sun went down it got cold. You just have to mentally block out it out each night. When we get to summer here, it's great. Our fans are loyal to come out here in these conditions. Some of them wear shorts."

Cecil Cooper, Indianapolis manager on the loss:

"We had a lackluster performance tonight," said Cooper. "We had no offense to speak of-we're not swinging the bats well. Our guys have got to make some physical and mental adjustments to the game. We need to be more selectitve at the plate. We have to have all of our guys go out and execute. We are not being very patient."

NOTES:

a.. Ottawa's six-run fourth inning was the most runs scored in a single frame this season against Indianapolis. The last three runs scored as a result of a Steve Scarborough error.

b.. Ottawa leads the series 1-0. Since joining the IL, Ottawa now has a 24-23 advantage over the Indians.

c.. The Tribe has dropped four of its last five games.

d.. Corey Hart and Alex Delgado were not available as they encountered passport difficulties. Hart has only missed two games all season.

e.. J.J. Hardy's 10th double of the year resulted in the Tribe's only run of the game as Jeff Liefer scored in the seventh inning.

f.. Indianapolis threatened in the ninth with one out, loading the bases, but failed to score.

g.. Former Indian Chad Mottola capped off the six-run fourth with a two-run single.

h.. The two teams play Sunday, the second game of a four-game series.

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

This time, the Suns? late rally was too much, and Jeff Housman?s second straight magnificent start was wasted. Huntsville (15-14) blew an eighth-inning lead on Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds, and Jacksonville (19-10) walked off a winner on Tony Socarras? two-out single in the bottom of the ninth, 2-1. With the loss, the Stars fell out of first place in the Southern League West.

Housman spun seven masterful innings, the longest stint for a Star this season, fanning nine for the second time in five days. Housman shut out the Suns, allowing just four hits and one walk. He has 18 strikeouts in his last 13 innings, permitting only one run while getting consecutive no-decisions. Housman pitched out of his lone jam in the seventh, retiring three hitters in a row, on a broken-bat roller and two strikeouts, with runners at second and third and none out.

Rickie Weeks? first Southern League homerun held up until the eighth. Weeks took Randy Leek?s 0-1 pitch over the left-centerfield wall, a line drive solo shot for a 1-0 Huntsville lead.

Leek nearly matched Housman?s effort, allowing one run while scattering seven hits over eight innings, walking none and fanning one. Remarkably, Leek required only 67 pitches, 52 for strikes, to navigate eight innings. Like Housman, Leek did not figure in the decision.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jacksonville?s Wilkin Ruan singled with one out and took second on a balk. One out later, Nick Alvarez singled to right, scoring Ruan with the tying run. In the ninth, Willy Aybar led off with a walk and took second on Nelson Castro?s two-out single. Socarras followed with a ground-single to left, plating Aybar ahead of leftfielder Brandon Gemoll?s throw with the winning run.

Yhency Brazoban (3-0) picked up the win after giving up one hit in the ninth, and Brian Adams (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on four hits and one walk while fanning two over two innings.

Stars righty Chris Saenz (3-1, 3.26) meets Suns lefty Derek Thompson (1-1, 2.59) in the series finale at 2:05 p.m. CT on Sunday at the Baseball Grounds.

Final: Lancaster (Diamondbacks) 9, High Desert 6

The Mavs kept playing catch-up and wound up running out of time in their loss to the Jethawks. Parra's line wasn't good, and relievers Dave Nolasco and Craig Breslow were victimized by 5 Maverick errors, including two by catcher John Vanden Berg. On the bright side, DH Travis Hinton continued to stay hot with a 1-2 night that featured three walks and no K's. Kenard Bibbs added two triples and a walk, though he only scored once. The Mavs stranded nine men on base -- Toby

Kind of an offshoot Huntsville article as far as specific interest to the Link Report goes, yet still a good read on Jorge Brito. Who? You'll see...

www.al.com/sports/huntsvi...094360.xml

And, in a separate item, an update on the new video board from Mark McCarter of the Times

It's not as if Joe W. Davis Stadium is about to turn into some full-fledged construction zone, where all fans will need to wear hardhats.

And it's not always the best of news when the noise of a drill can drown out a baseball crowd. But the sound of work crews is a welcome one for Stars officials.

The new scoreboard, which will include a top-quality video screen, will be in place by the end of this month, according to Stars general manager Bryan Dingo. The target date is May 28.

Additionally, the bid for replacing many of the upper-level grandstand seats is expected to be awarded Thursday.

"Ideally, it'd have been great to have all the work done when the season opened,'' Dingo said. "But on the other hand, it's good that fans can see the work going on and see how we're trying to improve the stadium.''

The scoreboard, with a price tag in excess of $300,000, has been purchased by the Stars' ownership group, headed by Miles Prentice.

During last week's afternoon games, crews were already drilling holes and doing other work in preparation for the scoreboard.

Workers are scheduled to construct a control booth for the scoreboard this Tuesday. On May 24, they are scheduled to take down the existing scoreboard.

For two or three games, there will be an old-style manual scoreboard in place in left field.

Meanwhile, the city of Huntsville has committed $330,000 for renovation and improvement, including the new seats. Already much work has been done to the infrastructure and "behind the scenes,'' including improvements in the Stars clubhouse.
