May all Mom's be blessed today -- here's your "breakfast-in-bed" version of the Daily Menu:

Huntsville game heading into extras, tied 3-3. Sounds like a frustrating game -- 17 LOB for Stars.

High Desert up 3-1 on Lancaster, top of 4.

huntsville had the bases loaded in the 9th and 10th with one out and failed to score a run.

In the 10th Brad Nelson struck out, and Kade JOhnson then Kd.

Bottom of 10 Rios gives up GWHR to first batter.

Stars lose 4-3

Saenz pitched pretty well.

Weeks with 2 hits and 2 HBP.

Whats up with Rickie getting hit so much. Has anyone seen some of these games this year? OR heard announcers talk about it? Maybe something should be said to the league because thats dangerous to get hit so much.

Here's all we've found thus far on J.J. Hardy -- could be minor, could be ominous -- OK, it could be in-between:

Indianapolis Indians Statement:

Shortstop J.J. Hardy left the game in the fourth inning for precautionary measures. A detailed injury report will be available Monday.

I've seen him get hit on quite a few of the occasions.I don't think its a league or pitcher problem. It seems to be part of his technique and a fine way to pad his OBP. Most of the hits I've seen him take have either brushed his shirt or glanced off his body armor. I have yet to see him actually caused pain. The strange thing is he doesn't crowd the plate as much as a lot of batters do, he just seems to be able to pick out the one he can safely lean into.

My only worry is that I'm not sure its a technique that will transfer effectively to the Majors.

Indianapolis Game Notes:

Indianapolis defeats Ottawa Sunday afternoon, 7-2. The Tribe is now 17-11, while Ottawa falls to 13-18.

The Lynx scored first on Jose Leon?s (5) solo homer off Jorge De La Rosa in the fourth. Indianapolis rallied for two runs in the sixth and five runs in the eighth, keyed by Mark Johnson?s three-run double.

Indians southpaw starter Jorge De La Rosa made his best start of the season in his sixth appearance. He threw six innings, allowed one run (a solo homer to Jose Leon) in the fourth, walked one and struck out six.

The Indians improve their road record to 9-4 and are 14-0 this season when leading after eight innings of play.

INDIANS HIT PARADE:

Mark Johnson, 2-4, 2B, 3 RBI Luis Figueroa, 1-3, R, 2 RBI

INDIANS HILL TOPPERS:

Jorge De La Rosa (2-2), 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K

Dan Reichert, 2 IP, 1 K (11th appearance, now has IL-leading 1.05 ERA).

QUOTES: Indians catcher Mark Johnson on De La Rosa?s performance:

?He?s (De La Rosa) just being more aggressive,? said Johnson. ?Jorge is staying in the strike zone longer. He threw a lot of first ball strikes and that was really important for him today.?

Indians catcher Mark Johnson on his day at the plate:

?I?ve been swinging the bat pretty good lately,? said Johnson. ?Any time you can get a lead in the count, you?ve got a pretty good chance to hit some good pitches, which I was able to do.

NOTES:

Catcher Alex Delgado joined the team today after having passport issues. Outfielder Corey Hart is still having passport problems and may not join the team on the four-game swing to Ottawa.

Shortstop J.J. Hardy left the game in the fourth inning for precautionary measures. A detailed injury report will be available Monday.

Indianapolis remains in first place in the IL West Division, having held the spot since opening day at Norfolk on April 8. Last year, the club sat in first place for a mere four days (April 3-6).

The Indians had lost all five decisions during Jorge De La Rosa?s previous starts.

I listened to the first three innings of the H-ville game and things seemed to be going smooth...3 runs in the first and CS throwing very well. I check out the final....they go 9 more innings without scoring a run...ouch.

Finally saw Villaneueva pitch today and he looked pretty smooth out there.

Vinny Rottino can hit. The guy just clubs it to every part of the park.

Kloosterman...oh Kloos...how you break my heart. He just got shelled today. Which is like the 3rd start in a row he has not looked good.

Mitch Stetter...remember that name. The guy looks very solid out there. He's like 6'5", smooth lefty. Has quite a bit of pop (not sure on radar reading but you can hear it), and comes over the top at that height...overpowering. He should take over for Kloos soon if he keeps pitching like he did today.

Steve Moss....I'm a huge supporter...but sheesh...swing the bat man. I know he's working the count and it shows...but when the pitcher is dealing you have to swing man.

Kane County pitcher in game 2....man among boys today. Although he did get some fine D...most of the time it wasn't needed. Only solid hit was a rope triple by Vinny into the left center gap.

Great day for a game and I'm glad it was a double dip as it allowed me even more time to enjoy it.

Best outfield arm.....Steve Moss....close and very very close 2nd Robby Deevers. Cannon baby.

Corporans homer was a line drive to right field that hooked just inside the foul pole.

Nothing else really comes to mind as it was just an enjoyable day at the park. Look forward to tomorrows game as it is the final of the series and All You Can Eat Night at Pohlman field.

Greg must either be sent back for EST or used strictly in mop-up roles until he can prove to be anything close to effective. I know coming into the season there was alot of board love for this guy. Why? Kloos spent the whole day(2 innings) dealing belt high off-speed pitches that got hammered all over the park. His previous two starts were equally grusome. Snapper rotation should be Eveland, Montalbo, Pena, Morreira and Villaneuva(in about that order). We are a month into the season. I think it is past the time of scrapping the piggyback system. Case in point: Morreira pitches strong six innings on Saturday and as a result, Eveland(our best pitcher) throws three innings and won't be seen for a week. That's ridiculous!

Took the wife out to that one , How else would a baseball mom want to spend mothers day if she couldnt watch Dana this was second best.

Tough luck for our pitchers they seemed to pitch well but a lot of hits given up with only a few hit hard but they kept coming. They could of got out of a couple innings un harmed if that grounder was a foot here or there.

Our guys will start getting the breaks and get the credit they deserve.

Since Robin or I dont have a mom any longer it was a great way to spend the day. Plus my Daughter caught a foul ball and got to hear some of Slacks stories http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

For the second straight night, the Stars suffered a disheartening loss. While Huntsville stranded 17 runners, Jacksonville (20-10) made the most of its chances. After the Suns rallied from 3-0 down, Jason Repko decided things, ripping a 10th-inning solo homer for Jacksonville?s second straight walk-off win, 4-3. Huntsville (15-15) fell one game back of Mobile in the Southern League West.

A three-run first put the Stars in front, with Prince Fielder and Brad Nelson doubling in runs and Chris Barnwell singling in another. Jacksonville scored its first run after Rickie Weeks lost Wilkin Ruan?s fourth-inning pop fly in the sun, allowing Ruan to reach second with a double. After a groundout sent him to third, Ruan scored on Reggie Abercrombie?s sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Jessie Hoorelbeke singled and Nelson Castro tied the game with a two-run homer.

In the top of the 10th, Huntsville loaded the bases with one out. Lefty Luis Gonzalez struck out Nelson, and righty Franquelis Osoria entered the game to face pinch-hitter Kade Johnson. Osoria struck out Johnson to strand the last three of the Stars? 17 runners left on base.

With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Repko launched reliever Fernando Rijo?s 2-1 pitch over the leftfield wall for the game-winning homerun, Repko?s fourth homer this season.

Osoria (1-2) notched his first win after retiring the only batter he faced, and Rijo suffered the loss, retiring one batter before Repko?s homerun in the 10th.

Huntsville travels to Mobile to open a four-game series with the Bay Bears Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Stars lefty Ryan Costello (1-0, 0.00) meets Bears righty Brian Whitaker (0-0, 3.00).

David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com Huntsville update:

SUNS THROW BLOCKADE - 17 LOB

I'm sure there was a lot to think about on the Interstate trip to Mobile........ 14 hits, five walks, and three hit batters all goes away if you win, but instead of a rout, which it should have been, the Stars go down in defeat by just one run........ Like I said, I'm sure that was a silent bus ride, and I couldn't imagine many worse ones.

The only ones who look good in this are the pitchers, except for former Suns pitcher Fernando Rijo, who gave up the game-winning, one-out home run to Jason Repko........ Chris Saenz proved once more that he's the best pitcher on this team, and really too good to be pitching in Double-A, but given the fact that Fred Dabney's pitching staff has turned into a M*A*S*H* unit, Saenz will stay........ Saenz gave up just four hits in six innings and struck out eight. In 25 1/3 innings this season, he's struck out 33 and walked just two........

Paul Stewart, in a relief role he wasn't meant for, pitched two scoreless innings, and looks better than Saenz on paper, lowering his ERA to 3.18, and oh yes, his K-BB ratio to 33:4 in 28 1/3 innings........ In the 7th inning, Stew, the man who should write the book on poise (I'm beginning to think he likes pitching under pressure) got out of a jam, allowing runners in scoring position with one out, and then striking out Tony Socarras swinging on a 3-and-2 slider and Wilkin Ruan on a 2-2 fastball to get out of the inning unscathed. The Suns left three of the four runners they had stranded to that point, eventually leaving six.

But the bad news and the mystery remains, why is such a talented team, one that looks as if it could generate plenty of runs, as many at least as the 1997 and 1985 teams, last in hitting with a .237 mark in the Southern League and 7th in runs scored, and why can't they take charge of this division....... The answers may be in this game.........

The game started as it has on at least three other times I've remembered. Rickie Weeks gets hit on the left elbow with a pitch. That ignited a three-run rally, a comfortable lead I would have thought........ That's the 12th time in 14 games since April 23 that Weeks has been hit, to lead the league. He's well on pace to break the club record of 19 set by Ramon Hernandez in 1998........ One out later, Prince Fielder and Brad Nelson, batting .308 and .274 respectively, hit consecutive doubles, scoring a pair of runs. With two out, Chris Barnwell, who had a refreshing day at the plate, drove in Nelson with a single to center........ After Joel Alvarado singled to left, Johnny Raburn grounded out to end the inning......... Saenz had a 3-0 lead to work with.

Saenz retired the entire Jacksonville lineup the first go-around, striking out four......... In the 4th, Wilkin Ruan broke up the three-inning perfecto. On a 3-1 pitch, Ruan hit a monster pop fly that must have left the atmosphere cause Weeks completely lost sight of it. He was on the edge of the outfield grass when it dropped on the dirt --- one of the shortest doubles you may ever see....... Ruan advanced to third on a dribbler back to Saenz, setting up a sacrifice fly by Reggie Abercrombie, who had ACL reconstructive elbow surgery after tearing it in the Fall League last year. Tony Gwynn, Jr. made the catch, but relayed to Prince Fielder. Had Dave Krynzel been out there, he most certainly would have made the throw home. I've seen it so many times last year. And whether he had a shot or not to get the speedy Ruan is conjecture, but I know he would have made the throw.......... Anyway, that made it 3-1.

In the meantime, the Stars left runners on second and third in the 3rd inning when Alvarado hit into a double play....... In the 4th inning, Frank Kremblas put on the double steal successfully with Weeks and Johnny Raburn, sending them to second and third, but Fielder, who rarely fails in the clutch, hammered one to right-center, not far enough, sending Abercrombie to the track for the final out........ In the top of the 5th, Jason Belcher and Barnwell hit back-to-back one out singles, but Alvarado flied out into a double play, when Jason Repko made a perfect throw to 2nd baseman Willie Aybar to double off Belcher........ Seven stranded through five innings..

Jacksonville tied the game up in the 5th inning when Brennan King's leadoff single to the right-centerfield alley, the first ball hit off Saenz with any authority, was followed by a one-out, two-run homer to left by Nelson Castro, the 3rd given up on the year by Saenz.

The Stars let more chances slip away........In the top of the 6th, a pair of two-out singles by Weeks and Gwynn, but Fielder struck out on a 1-2 slider........ Fielder struck out three times in this game for the third time this season........ Derek Thompson, who threw 62 piches through four innings, leaves the game at this point, giving up 12 hits and hitting two batters........

In the 7th, the Stars put runners on 1st and 2nd with two out, but Raburn hit into a force when he hit a 2-and-0 pitch back to pitcher Jose Rojas........ In the 8th, Brandon Gemoll reached when Brennan King juggled his first pitch grounder. It was generously changed from an error to a hit. Gemoll is now 7-for-13 in his last five games, raising his average to .255....... Weeks was hit on the # 2 part of his # 25 jersey to move Gemoll over. ....... That presented a good opportunity for a sacrifice, but Gwynn, instead, swung away when he took a two-strike count. Fielder and Nelson then both struck out swinging........ Thirteen runners stranded through eight.

Roberto Giron, another pitcher who likes to live dangerously, got out of a jam in the bottom of the 9th when he struck out Socarras and pinch-hitter Nick Alvarez with runners on first and second, sending this into extra innings

The 10th was the Stars best chance to win this game since the 3-0 lead they took from the start........ The Suns had their 4th pitcher on the mound, Luis Gonzalez, unrelated to the other 10 million other Luis Gonzalez's in the universe, walked Gemoll to lead off the inning. One out later, he was on third after a single by Gwynn, who took 2nd on what is called defensive indifference, rather than a stolen base........ Fielder walked on a full count load the bases......... With the game on the line for Jacksonville, Brad Nelson, 5-for-17 in the series, struck out swinging on a 3-2 fastball. Right-hander Franquelis Osoria then came into the game to strike out Kade Johnson, leaving the bases loaded......... With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Jason Repko, 4-for-18 in the series to this point, homered to left to give the Suns their second straight walk-off victory in this series.

Monday night, Ryan Costello will get the start for the Stars first trip to Mobile....... Right now, they lead Birmingham in the West by a half-game with the Stars in third, one game back, and for the first time in 14 games, the Stars have a streak going....... Unfortunately, it's the wrong one.

Reggie Rivard will be able to pitch Monday or Tuesday........ John Novinsky will be ready at least by Wednesday, and Ryan Miller will most likely be back to pitch when the Stars get back into town vs. Greenville........ The Stars lead the Southern League in hit batters with 22, and are on pace to break not only the club record of 79 set in 1999, their first season as a Milwaukee affiliate, but the Southern League record as well, set by the 1999 Diamond Jaxx with 91....... Rickie Weeks is already 12th on the list among the hit batter leaders for a single season, and tied today Mike Kremblas's club-leading total of last season......

Jason Stokes hit his 9th home run, Sunday, vs. Greenville, tying him with Prince Fielder for the league HR lead. It was the 3rd consecutive game Stokes has hit one out.......

According to General Manager Bryan Dingo, the target date on the new scoreboard is May 28, moved up from the first week of June by my last report......... During last week's afternoon games, crews were already drilling holes and doing other work in preparation for the scoreboard. Workers are scheduled to construct a control booth for the scoreboard this Tuesday. On May 24, they are scheduled to take down the existing scoreboard........ For two or three games, there will be an old-style manual scoreboard in place in left field........ Additionally, the bid for replacing many of the upper-level grandstand seats is expected to be awarded Thursday.

Not a double-play slide injury as theorized earlier.

J.J. Hardy Update:

Hardy took a rip at a pitch in the fourth. He missed and the follow-through sent him to the trainer's room with a suspected shoulder injury.
