Manny Parra hasn't pitched since 7/6, thoughts?

obobo55

Maybe I am just too excited about Manny. I just figured he would start the 1st game after the break. Instead they went with Dickey, then Jackson, and today it is Pettyjohn...

So...is this anything of note? Are the Brewers holding him back thinking about a promotion or is he just slotted behind the other 3 in Nashville's rotation at this point? Just curious because each day when I open the link report I am hoping to see his name as the starting pitcher and I have been disappointed for 8 days in a row (granted that includes the all-star break).http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Manny's already thrown 106 innings this year. With his injury history limiting his innings the last few years, they may be looking to keep his innings down so he can be of use to the Brewers at some point this year.

I am agreeing with the notion of limiting his innings. He's taken the ball every five days, dominated, been promoted and pitched a perfect game...staying healthy the whole time. I'd ease off the accelerator a bit and remove a bit of pressure.

He began the season as a question mark, and has turned into a serious organizational asset. Ironically, Mike Jones entered the season the same way, and he's probably done, at least in Milwaukee. That alone should cause them to pause a bit with Manny. He doesn't have much more to prove at this point. He'll have his innings before the end of the season. Given his total dominance of lefthanders (less than .090 batting average), I would expect to see him in Milwaukee sooner than later.

Just guessing here but it sounds more likely that he's hurt.

If they were just moving him to the pen to limit his innings they would have announced it and we would have seen him for an inning or two already.

Hopefully if he is hurt it isn't anything major.

OK, now I am certain something is up. Reading the link report, the Sounds starter for today is DeFelice making his debut after the callup from Huntsville. I just can't see him getting the start before Manny unless there is something up.

I haven't heard anything so I assume there is no injury news we are being shielded from (knock on wood). What plan do the Brewers have for Manny that would require holding him out? Is there a trade that is this close to happening?

Thanks Mass.

Just seems curious that they start DeFelice before Manny. I guess I get the inning limitation aspect. With Nashville building up a large lead in their division, might as well keep Manny fresh in case the Brewers need to call on him in Sept.

I would agree Parra is trade bait, he's a relief prospect to the Crew, yet is a top LH SP prospect to others, I'm sure. Hence, he has more value to almost any other team. Also, other teams hear he's been hurt and shrug, while the Brewers may well see this as a window to move him.

How exactly is that Parra is only a relief prospect for the Crew? That idea seems to have occurred more as a matter of convenience for us fans looking for a better lefty bullpen option than Shouse.

I don't agree with al---

but i can see the logic:

Manny's going to run out of innings in august if he keeps starting...he's also been a coossal injury risk at every moment of his c areer...even after that, he's currently 8th on the SP depth chart...

i think Manny will get a look at some point in 2007 or 2008 in the rotation...but he couldnt have picked a worse moment to make the show as a starting pitcher...

however, depth rocks...so this is a great situation for us as fans...

I suspect that Parra as "only a relief prospect" was dismissed somewhere along the line this season. A lefty starter that can hit 96 is pretty special. But, if he does spend some time in MKE this season, it seems like it will be as a reliever, unless injuries just start piling up.

Parra is running into the same innings limitation that is afflicting Gallardo, probably even more so due to his injury past. That doesn't mean he can't be a starter down the road, but it does mean that even if Parra makes a start or two for Sheets, he's eventually going to end up in the pen.

I think it has been reported that Parra has hit 95-96 a couple of times this year (maybe by DHonks?). He probably works in the 92-93 range, but I guess I wouldn't be stunned if he maxes out at 95-96.

EDIT: Found it on the J/S.

In his second start for the Sounds, Parra, 24, pitched a perfect game against Round Rock. Through four starts at Nashville, he is 3-1 with a 1.73 ERA, with 15 hits and seven walks allowed in 26 innings, and 27 strikeouts.

"He's been throwing his fastball 91 to 96 (mph) and 'sitting' about 93, 94," Kyles said. "Physically, he's right back where he needs to be, and he's not too far away mentally, either.
