Link Report for Games of Monday, May 10th

Oh boy. This is the same shoulder that he hurt in Spring Training. Considering the fact he has hurt it again within 2 months, I wonder if the Brewers are going to seriously look at the surgury option. Boy those 'strengthening' exercises sure sound a lot like what kept Manny in extended Spring Training. Hopefully this is not something that is going to plague J.J.'s whole career.

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Like a writer married to a tired formula, Huntsville was stuck in a troubling pattern. Over four days in Jacksonville, the Stars blew leads in all four games, losing three of them. On Monday in Mobile, Huntsville saw 5-0 and 6-3 leads nearly evaporate. Buoyed by a rejuvenated bullpen and an opportunistic ninth-inning rally, the Stars (16-15) bucked the trend and hung on for an 8-5 win over the Bay Bears (16-15) at Hank Aaron Stadium. Huntsville pulled within one-half game of first in the Southern League West.

Brandon Gemoll opened the game with an emphatic blow, an opposite-field, first-inning grand slam, Huntsville?s first this season and Gemoll?s second as a Star. After Prince Fielder?s run-scoring, second-inning single, it was 5-0 Huntsville. Following the Bears? three-run fourth, Gemoll delivered an RBI-double in the fifth for a 6-3 advantage. Mobile scored twice more in the fifth to pull within 6-5.

The Stars? bullpen, fortified by the return of Reggie Rivard from a sore right knee, delivered five scoreless innings. Rivard tossed two shutout frames, Brian Adams retired six straight batters and Roberto Giron recorded his sixth save in seven tries, giving up one hit while fanning two in a scoreless ninth.

The game-sealing rally came after Rickie Weeks reached on an error to start the ninth. Tony Gwynn, Jr. walked and Fielder?s single plated Weeks and sent Gwynn to third. With the infield curiously playing back, Gwynn trotted home as Brad Nelson grounded into a double play to close the scoring.

Rivard (3-0) notched his third win, permitting one hit and one walk with one strikeout over the fifth and sixth. Brian Whitaker (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering six hits and five runs, four earned, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Huntsville sends righty Tim Bausher (1-3, 2.61) against Bears right-hander Chris Rojas (2-2, 4.03) in game two of the four-game series on Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

Final: Inland Empire (Mariners) 11, High Desert 1

66ers Site Game Summary:

There's no place like home for the Inland Empire 66ers.

After finishing a 13-game road trip on a three-game losing streak (8-5 overall on the trip), the 66ers returned home and back to their winning ways.

Inland Empire (20-12) breezed by the High Desert Mavericks (13-19) last night 11-3 before 991 fans at Arrowhead Credit Union Park, giving the 66ers their tenth win in twelve games at home this season.

Inland Empire's Pichi Balet was the star for the 66ers as he drove in five of the eleven runs, a new career high for the designated hitter. The four RBI now gives Balet 10 this season and the four hits climbed his batting average from .288 to .320.

With the score tied at one, the 66ers scored four runs in the top of the third inning highlighted by a Balet two-RBI double. Inland Empire never looked back. Thanks to yet another strong pitching performance by left-hander, Bobby Livingston. While Livingston surrendered his first run of the season at Arrowhead Credit Union Park, snapping the streak of 27.1 innings, the tall lefty continued his dominance this season.

Livingston punched out eight Maverick hitters in his six innings of work, a new season high for the 66ers ace, who has a perfect 5-0 record with a microscopic 1.33 ERA.

With the win, the 66ers moved their record to 20-12, best in the California League and into a virtual tie in the Southern Division with Lancaster (19-11).

Inland Empire looks to continue its winnings ways at home tomorrow as they throw 18-year old phenom Felix Hernandez (3-1, 2.56 ERA) against High Desert's Bo Hall (2-3, 7.96 ERA).

David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com Huntsville update:

DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE

Brandon Gemoll had one of his biggest days in a Huntsville Stars uniform in Mobile, Monday, when he doubled, hit a grand-slam HR, and drove in five runs (not three as you see in the box score on sportsnetwork.com) to lead the Stars to an 8-5 victory over Mobile....... Gemoll's opposite-field blast on a 2-2 pitch hit the top of the wall in left-center, similar in that respect to one Prince Fielder hit at Joe Davis Stadium this year, and bounced over....... The stage was set when Tony Gwynn, Jr. drew a one-out walk, followed by a Fielder single lined into centerfield, and a walk to Brad Nelson....... I don't know how The Sports Network gets two RBI out of that, but it needs correcting........ It was Gemoll's 2nd grand-slam as a Star and the first by a Huntsville Star thsi season. Gemoll hit a grand-salami off the Diamond Jaxx's T.P. Waligora on May 24 of last year.......

It was the 8th straight game that the Stars took the initial lead in a ballgame, yet the Stars have won just half of them....... But Huntsville was able to take advantage of a Mobile pitching staff that has been shaky lately....... The loss to Mobile put the Diamond Jaxx in first place in a tight four-team race.

Ryan Costello had a shaky first, leaving the bases loaded when Ben Johnson hit into a force, and was knocked out in the 5th inning, after giving up a two-run HR to Josh Carter in the 4th, and singles to Josh Barfield and Greg Sain in the bottom of the 5th......... Reggie Rivard, pitching in his first game since May 1, Brian Adams, and Roberto Giron came in to freeze Mobile, giving up just two hits in the Bay Bears' remaining five innings.

Prince Fielder's two-out RBI singled to score Johnny Raburn, who led off the inning reaching first when his high-hopper hit off shortstop Jason Clements' glove, the first of three errors for him ....... The Stars put a lock on the game after Rickie Weeks reached on an error to start the ninth. Tony Gwynn, Jr. walked and Fielder?s single plated Weeks and sent Gwynn to third. With the infield curiously playing back, Gwynn trotted home as Brad Nelson grounded into a double play to close the scoring.

Chris Barnwell, 5-for-8 in his last two games, climbed over the Mendoza line for the first time this season.

Huntsville sends righty Tim Bausher (1-3, 2.61) against Bears right-hander Chris Rojas (2-2, 4.03) in game two of the four-game series on Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

Why they're not playing in Helena just yet:

Helena could see several inches of snow the next few days, with bouts of rain and wind.

Areas of Montana could receive up to 18 inches of snow. The storm is likely to produce two inches of water, putting the smallest of dents in the ongoing drought - but a dent nonetheless.

No about getting the pre-game notes back on the Indy web site...

Hey Mass, I'm not sure when they post them, but I did find yesterday's game notes on the website shortly after the game started.
