Link Report for Games of Monday, May 10th

Monday's Daily Menu:

All times Central; pitchers subject to change; pre-game audio begins approx. 15 minutes prior to game time listed...

INDIANAPOLIS: RHP Travis Phelps at Ottawa (Orioles), 5:05 PM

Audio link:

www.newstalk1430.com/

There is no alternate link from Ottawa; that franchise is really struggling -- attendance, airwaves, fiscally in every way...

I contacted WXNT radio station management Sunday morning regarding the problems with the Indians' feed. Hopefully we'll get an update by mid-week.

HUNTSVILLE: LHP Ryan Costello at Mobile (Padres), 7:00 PM

Audio link:

www.espn1450.com/

HIGH DESERT: RHP Forrest Martin at Inland Empire (Mariners), 9:10 PM; the "Empire" is San Bernadino -- Mavs will have all they can handle at the plate tonight, left-hander Bobby Livingston (4-0, 1.31) will start for the Sixers. He currently is tied for the Cal League lead in victories, is first in innings pitched and second in ERA.

Audio link:

Alternate audio link (Sixers' feed):

www.sportsjuice.com/provi...tname=ie66

BELOIT: TBD at home vs. Kane County (A's), 6:30 PM; the Snappers won't have it easy, either -- Brad Knox (2?2, 2.17) will take his Midwest League-leading 52 strikeouts to the mound for the Cougars.

Audio link (Cougars' feed):

The Cougars' feeds archive, so you can go back and listen to any critical moments if you wish -- nice...

I did email them last week, I've heard nothing back yet.

Consider this from Ottawa and I'm not sure the Brewer affiliates will see a better combined group of opposing starters on one night all season -- let's see what the Brewer bats have to say about this tonight...

Ottawa Lynx Top Pitching Prospect John Maine will make his first appearance in Ottawa this evening when the Lynx take on the Indianapolis Indians at 6:05 pm.

Maine, 22, has been dominant at every level of the Minor Leagues, and was names the Baltimore Orioles # 2 Top Prospect by Baseball America this year.

Maine made his Triple-A debut last Tuesday in Pawtucket, giving up only two runs over 5.0 innings of work, while picking up a no-decision in a Lynx 5-3 extra inning victory.

A few other pertinent facts: Maine pitched in five games for Double-A Bowie, going 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA. In 28.0 innings pitched, he struck out 34 while holding opponents to a .160 batting average. Maine was named the 2003 Orioles Minor League Pitcher of the Year after he combined to go 13-4 with a 2.27 ERA in 26 games between Single-A Delmarva and Frederick. He began the year at Delmarva, going 7-3 with a 1.53 ERA before being promoted to Fredrick, where he went 6-1 with a 3.07 ERA. Maine struck out 185 batters and walked only 38 while allowing just 91 hits, as opponents batted .177 off him. Maine was the Orioles? 6th round selection in the 2002 draft.

Anyone listen to the Indy pregame? Any word on JJ's shoulder?

Edit: They just reported that he went to Milwaukee to get it looked at, they may have a report later this evening. The Indy audio is working very well tonight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

Beloit game....lost 2-1

Chris Capuano started on a rehab assignment...gave up a dinger.

Durost took over in the 3rd with 2 outs....strict pitch count I'm sure.

Taubenheim came in for the ninth and pitched great...2 k's. This guy looks very good....prospect wise watch him.

Not much going on....Capuano picked a guy off of first...excellent pickoff move.

Fairly uneventful....all you can eat night which was fun.

Raining to start off and a haze stuck around all game...

Capuano looked very good....the homer was a shot..

Knox of the Cougars looked ok...had a killer curve....easy to see why he would lead the league in strikeouts.

Couple of bad calls against the Snappers at first base...one was a hit to the first baseman and the pitcher came over to cover and it was very close...even a tie....guess tie doesn't go to the runner. The 2nd one hurt the most as it was in the bottom of the ninth and truffles hit one to the left side of the infield and beat it out by a half a step and was called out....which very possibly hurt the Snappers as that was one out they could have used to manufacture a run to tie it.

I'm starting to wonder about Lou....he hasn't been driving the ball as much...a lot of choppers to short and 2nd....Vinny Rottino continues to club the ball.

Pretty uneventful night really...only real excitement was the Capuano sighting. I also believe I saw a few scouts there. One had a Tigers cap on and talked to Josh Murray for what it's worth. He even asked about his injuries. Hopefully more action tomorrow against Cedar Rapids. I'm guessing it's time for Pena again.

Final: Indianapolis 2, Ottawa (Orioles) 1

Indianapolis Game Summary:

My thanks to Tribe management -- ever since we mentioned the wasteland that is Indy newspaper coverage, the team post-game press releases have picked up the slack. No about getting the pre-game notes back on the Indy web site...

Indianapolis defeats Ottawa Monday night, 2-1, behind the timely hitting of Scott Sheldon. Sheldon blasted his second homer of the season in the seventh inning off Lynx starter John Maine (0-1) for the game winning hit.

Indianapolis starter Travis Phelps (2-1) earns the win, throwing six scoreless innings. He gave up four hits, walked one and struck out three. Jason Childers picks up his league-leading ninth save, stranding Tim Raines, Jr. at third base to end the game.

Ottawa?s Jose Leon hit a solo homer off reliever Matt Childers in the eighth inning, accounting for the home club?s lone run.

The Indians are now 18-11, Ottawa falls to 13-19. Indianapolis is 15-0 when leading after eight innings, 8-3 in one-run games and 10-4 on the road.

INDIANS HIT PARADE:

Chris Magruder, 2-4, 2B

Jeff Liefer, 1-4, R

Scott Sheldon, 1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI

Steve Scarborough, 1-2, 2B

INDIANS HILL TOPPERS:

Travis Phelps (2-1), 6 IP, 4H, BB, 3 SO

Matt Childers, 2 IP, H, R, SO

Jason Childers (9th save), 1 IP, 1H, SO

QUOTES:

Indians pitcher Travis Phelps on the Tribe bullpen:

?We have a good bullpen,? said Phelps. ?Once it gets to the sixth, seventh or eighth inning, we feel very confident. I knew we were going to win that game.?

Phelps on his pitching performance:

?I went out and tried to be aggressive early,? said Phelps. ?I located the ball better than in previous starts. I made the pitches I needed to make tonight. Our defense made plays tonight and when that happens , you feel confident to put the ball in play.?

NOTES:

The Tribe turned over four double plays in the first five innings Monday evening, which marks the team?s season high.

Steve Scarborough extended his hitting streak to five games.

Outfielder Corey Hart will be available to play tomorrow after encountering passport problems.

Shortstop J.J. Hardy, who left Sunday?s game early, was diagnosed with a sublixation of his left shoulder and will be evaluated by doctors in Milwaukee.

Indianapolis Box Score:

Man, it hurts to see the box without Krynzel, Hardy, and Hart...

Two questions... Is that the shoulder that was bothering him earlier this year? And what the heck is a sublixation?
