Another nice start from Villy... 'cept for the two bombs, he was outstanding. Gotta keep the ball in the park, but it's hard not to love his ability to limit the walks.

Final: Scranton / Wilkes-Barre (Phillies) 6, Indianapolis 5

Frustrating loss for sure; Corey Hart showing yet more extra-base pop but a dud in the field (again at first base) tonight; but man, can he rake -- his .854 OPS sneaks up a bit this evening; damnit, Brewers, stick Hart in RF and leave him there! Is this what Jeff Liefer's promotion has led to? These bizarre moves and non-moves are starting to tick many of us off big-time -- really now...

capuano getting shelled in HD, 7 runs through 3 innings.

I know it's just one game, but does anyone else find it pretty disconcerting when a member of your MLB rotation gets hammered in (ahem) A BALL?!?

Yeah, me too.

You have four outfielders. One of them must play first-base while the other three man the outfield. Which one do you choose for 1B duties?

A: Peter Bergeron

B: Chris Magruder

C: Corey Hart

D: Jon Nunnally

Apparently the Brewers followed the time-tested "always pick C" method. Personally, I would have made sure my top freaking prospect doesn't get yanked around with position changes so that veteran AAA'ers can play the outfield.

Reid, this ain't cool.

If I'm remembering correctly he did the same exact thing during his last two rehab starts, first one was bad, second was much better, than the major league start was good. So no worries yet.

you forgot one thing. Last time he had a bad, a better, then a good ML start where he got INJURED. So if he's starting off the same way we might as well just put him on the 60-day DL.

well, lemme just clear up what cap did last time.

he went three innings in Beloit and got hit around.

Then me made another start and did well.

Then at Indy he got crushed in his first start there so they had him make another and it was better.

A little surprised Kade Johnson wasn't in the Stars' lineup?

I think he's actually got till tomorrow, but I'm not sure. Originally, I heard end-of-day Monday. Then I heard Wednesday. Not sure. Cross your fingers if you're a Stars' fan.

Manny Ramirez is on fire. It seems like a few weeks ago his numbers were nothing, but they're respectable now. Prince Fielder is back. Rickie Weeks is showing signs of life. Beautiful outing by Woolard tonight, and a nice start for Villanueva; I just don't miss Wayne Franklin much. I assume they weren't expecting much more out of Ford tonight than a pulse, which is about what they got.

Pretty good night if you aren't Capuano, but how would you like to hurt your arm and wake up in a bandbox on the friggin' moon? He'll be fine, as long as his arm doesn't fall off or anything. Hoping for good things in Parra's line.

Greg.

Kade wasn't in uniform, he was sitting in the third base box seats watching the game.. David Weiser said that the waiver business wasn't over until Wednesday, so I'm presuming/hoping that he is still with us.

It was a great finish nailbiting all the way.

Ozzie was 0-2 before he walked.

Rickie should have been out - but they were slow and he was fast.

Prince's hit was a broken bat bloop - not the GIDP we were all half expecting.

Ryan's hit was a total miscue after a messed up squeeeze play everyone knew was coming on the first pitch.

The great thing about it was that they 'willed' their way to the win - it wasn't pretty, but it worked.

Beloit Game Summary from the Dragons' Site:

I'm not making friends among the organization tonight, but while I'm in this foul mood I'll mention that when the Snappers return home, this is what a team website game summary looks like. The two-sentence game blurbs aren't cutting it...

The Beloit Snappers (32-27) slugged four home runs against Dayton Dragons pitching (24-35) and took three of four from the Dragons on the first half series winning the finale by an 8-3 count on Tuesday night. The Dragons finished the eight game, eight day home stand at four wins and four losses, taking three of four from Battle Creek and dropping three of four from Beloit.

Beloit got on the board in the top half of the first inning off Dayton starter Tyler Pelland (L, 1-7) with the first of four homers on the night. Vinny Rottino, who finished the series with seven RBI, knocked a Pelland pitch over the wall in left center for a three run shot and the Snappers led 3-0. In the second inning, Beloit was at it again picking up a single tally off the Dragons starter. Robbie Deevers led off the inning with a double and came home on a Will Lewis single for a 4-0 lead. In the top half of the third, Steve Moss picked up his second of four hits on the night with his second long ball of the season and the lead grew to 5-0. Pelland was finished after three, allowing five runs on five hits and a walk.

The two teams traded runs in the fourth inning as Beloit added a single tally off reliever Dirt Ursin with three straight two out singles. Moss picked up his second RBI driving home Lewis for a 6-0 Snappers lead. The Dragons got on the board in the bottom half of the frame off Beloit starter Carlos Villanueva (W, 5-5) on a mammoth opposite field homer to left center by Joey Votto. Votto?s eighth of the season broke up the one hit shutout and gave the Dragons their first run of the night.

Dayton got as close as 6-3 in the bottom half of the sixth inning on back to back extra base hits by Chris Dickerson and Luis Bolivar. Dickerson tripled off the wall in left center and jogged home on Bolivar?s sixth homer of the season, a blast over the Dragons Lair in left field. Both Dickerson and Bolivar, along with pitcher Calvin Medlock were named to the MWL All-Star Team, which was announced earlier on Tuesday afternoon. Bolivar had a good night at the plate for Dayton, picking up three hits, lacking only a triple for the cycle.

Villanueva?s night was finished after 6.0 innings of work. The right hander picked up the win scattering five hits, striking out three and allowing three earned runs. Beloit added to the homer total with solo shots in the seventh and the ninth to close out the scoring at 8-3. Manuel Ramirez picked up his second of the series off Derek Hawk in the top of the seventh and Josh Murray added his second of the series off Trey Rice in the ninth.

Mitch Stetter and Tim Dillard blanked the Dragons over the final three innings to preserve the win for Villanueva.

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Rival Birmingham arrived in Huntsville Tuesday, both teams in the thick of a pennant chase. Trailing 2-1 into the fifth, the Stars squandered scoring chances in consecutive innings. The Barons scored a key insurance run in the seventh. Down to their final two outs with the bases empty in the ninth, their pennant hopes hanging by a thread, the Stars responded. A dramatic ninth-inning rally brought Huntsville a walk-off win over Birmingham (29-30), 4-3, at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars (30-29) have won two of their last three games to remain in third place, two games out of first in the Southern League West.

The Barons forged ahead with a third-inning rally sparked by a Stars miscue. Edwin Yan hit a routine ground ball to short, but Ozzie Chavez?s throw to first pulled Prince Fielder off the bag for an error. Michael Morse singled Yan to second and both men advanced on a wild pitch. Scott Bikowski delivered a one-out, two-run single to center for a 2-0 Birmingham lead.

Fielder?s opposite-field solo homer, his 12th of the year, brought Huntsville within a run in the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth, Rickie Weeks doubled to left with two outs. As Tony Gwynn Jr. took ball four, Weeks was thrown out trying to steal third base, ending the threat.

In the sixth, singles by Brad Nelson and Ryan Knox put runners at first and second with one out. With the runners in motion, Chris Barnwell hit a come-backer to the mound, and Ryan Meaux threw him out at first as Nelson and Knox advanced. Johnny Raburn was intentionally walked, and Nestor Corredor grounded out to Meaux to close the frame.

Birmingham got its insurance in the eighth. Scott Bikowski singled to center and Carlos Maldonado drilled a pitch deep to left. Nelson chased and leapt at the wall as the ball glanced off his glove. Maldonado was thrown out at third after oversliding the bag, but his run-scoring double put the Barons up, 3-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, Chavez walked with one out. Weeks? infield single put runners at first and second, and Gwynn singled to right, scoring Chavez and sending Weeks to third. Prince Fielder?s broken-bat single to right plated Weeks and pushed Gwynn to third. After Nelson was intentionally walked, Ryan Knox?s squeeze bunt bounced foul. On the next pitch, Knox hit a swinging bunt up the third base line. Third baseman Rob Sasser watched helplessly as the ball stayed fair and Gwynn scored the winning run.

Brian Adams (1-1) picked up his first win, giving up one run on two hits while fanning four over the final three innings. Josh Fields (3-2) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.

Huntsville sends righty Mike Jones (0-2, 4.50), making his first appearance since April 23 after rehabbing a sore elbow, to the mound against Barons right-hander Courtney Duncan (0-0, 0.00) in game two of the series Wednesday afternoon at Joe Davis Stadium. Game time is 12:05 p.m.
