Huntsville Times Notes:

Paying attention, yes. Paying off, no. Before Thursday's game, Stars manager Frank Kremblas crammed all the position players in his small office and delivered a message. Pay attention. Watch what opposing pitchers are doing. Remember how they're pitching you. Watch how they're pitching to your teammates. If you're a right-hander, see how they pitch other righties. The Stars responded with 11 hits Thursday night and 10 more on Friday. Alas, they only covered those 21 hits into three runs. ...

Going into Saturday's game, only three Huntsville starters were batting higher than .252. ... The Rickie Weeks HBP Count is up to 18, a mere one bruise shy of tying Ramon Hernandez's Stars record, set in 1998. The Stars have been hit 43 times. ... Weeks signed a contract this week with 3N2 Gear to endorse the company's footwear. As part of the deal, the company will make a contribution to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Weeks' mom is a diabetic. ...

Privately, the Stars say they aren't thrilled about this week's annual Rickwood Classic in Birmingham. Though Birmingham's old stadium is full of history, the playing conditions are subpar. ...

An escape from the Milwaukee organization continues to prove fruitful for some. OF Jim Rushford was the International League Player of the Week. He's batting .324 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Phillies chain. ... According to reports, Jason Childers, traded this week by the Brewers from Indianapolis for a Triple-A outfielder, may soon get a shot in the majors with the Expos, whose bullpen is abysmal.

Checked in on the Knights' broadcast, of course; probably no need to even post an Indy link going forward...

I don't get it. With all the scrutiny directed at Milwaukee from the Indy folks, they should think about getting their own house in order, first. No functioning web radio for a Triple-A team? That's unacceptable.

RHP Jeff Farnsworth allowed three HR's while struggling early on in the Indy game.

In progress, Game One: Charlotte (White Sox) 15, Indianapolis 6, bottom of the 5th in Charlotte in this seven-inning affair

Paul Stewart allowed one run in his two innings, Dan Reichert just allowed a HR to his first batter, and the fifth inning has only gone downhill from there, as the Knights just enjoyed another bomb off Reichert, a three-run job. Brandon Gemoll hit a two-run HR early on for Indy...

I think it's time for Little Ben to make the move to Milwaukee for good.

EDIT: How's that for spicing up an otherwise pretty routine day in Link Report land? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Huntsville's underway after a 40-minute rain delay to begin the game. Rickie Weeks with a leadoff double off of Luis Martinez, Rickie scalding the ball as of late making use of a new opened-up stance.

Batman, I don't think Ben H is enough of a step up from our 5th starter to justify the call-up, and subsequent arby clock starting/other inherent negatives. In fact, Wise has pitched so darn well, I might well consider him before Ben H.

Those of us who saw Ben's only start recall a 87-88 mph fastball, an inconsistent curve, and no 3rd pitch. I think he's got plenty to keep him busy at Indy. If our #5 guy was pitching like Navarro was a few years ago, I'd be all for it. But, Wes has given us quality starts a good % of the time in about 20 starts for us since being acquired 11 months ago, despite being far from "good".

Well that's the coolest thing ever. If they keep doing this, we will at least be able to get P/PA numbers and a better idea of the game "flow" and different players' relative patience. If they could add pitch-by-pitch logs like ESPN (et. al.) does, that would be incredible.

Thanks for mentioning that, MB...

In progress: Huntsville 0, Tennessee (Cardinals) 0, after three innings

RHP Mike Jones faced the minimum in his three innings of work, in this, his second appearance since coming off the DL -- looks like LHP Jeff Housman will follow him now...

Mike Jones cruised through his 3 innings tonight as he is on a 3 nning or 45 pitch limit. Jones faced the minimum through three and I believe struck out 1. Housman is getting ready in the bullpen as it doesn't look like the 3 inning limit will be pushed even though he is under the pitch limit through 3.

That is sweet to see Jones only face the min. Keep it up Mike.

Don't base your thoughts on Ben H. on his one start. It was his first start and his worst two starts of the year in AAA were during the same two week stretch but he once again started to dominate. It could be that his arm just wasn't as live as it usually is for that start.

And that is the smallest sample size ever.

I do agree that Wes has been good but I don't think I would start Wise before Ben H. ever. and Wes has to be good so he doesn't get exchanged for Ben H.

Snappers win 8-6....Heether and Moss go yard...

Not a whole lot that stands out. Lou P with an error in the second. Strike out then the throw to get him at first went past...2 base error. Scores on foul pop out in deep left.

Will Lewis looks great out there. Had the winning hit in the 8th I believe. Two on and two out...double down the line in left scored Vinny and Heether. Lewis thrown out at third trying to advance on throw home....late jump...should have ran right away.

My boy Stevie Moss with another nice night..dinger, walk

Truffles got lucky tonight. He had a single. Two times tried to pick him off first. Truffles stealing....pick off made...had him in a run down....first baseman running him towards second...never threw it...Terry safe at second.

Corporan nice night with a triple and double. He should see a bit more playing time from Manny. Not to mention his glove is a lot better than ManRam.

Villanueva didn't have it tonight. Gave up a couple of dingers and a few walks.

Vinny with another walk tonight....really churning them out now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Field umpire with a couple horrible calls tonight...one was in the 7th I believe with Truffles on third, 2 outs and Anderson batting. Money-ball time...tries a bunt single and actually made it but called out. Another blown call at first earlier as well as I wanna say it was Truffles beat out an infield hit but was called out.

Great night for baseball and a great crowd for all you can eat night 2. Look forward to Thursdays game as I can't make it tomorrow or wed.

Also forgot to mention....the stolen base by Furtado. Lou's attempt to throw him out at second went about 15 feet above Lewis at 2nd base and into center field. Not the best of nights for Lou behind the plate coupled with the 2nd inning error.

Anyone who has seen Hendrickson pitch at Indy correct me if I am wrong about his stuff, but I think that Ben Hendrickson is going to be a 5 starter at best. In less he increases his velocity to low 90's and really works on his curve and maybe adds another pitch(correct me if he has one), then he can stay at Indy and we can have Oby start.

In the Indy Box it said that Mike Jones gave up 2 runs, is that right because I thought that some said he didnt give up any?

I was at the Snappers game today as well.

Micah Furtado, 2B for Clinton, really looks great. I saw him hit in BP and was very impressed. He hit an opposite field HR in his first at bat, solid single in the 6th. He also flied out hard to center. He is just a little guy (5'7"?) but he has an awful lot of pop. Hitting .375 in the MWL so far this season.

I concur on Will Lewis's performance tonight. He was hardly pitched to in his first two PAs: 2 BB on 9 pitches. His double was huge and really struck well. As said earlier, it should have been a 3B.

correction on Mike Jones, he did NOT face the minimum.

He started the 4th and gave up two hits before housman came in and proceeded to give up the runs that Mike earned tonight.

just thought you all should know. He pitched very well through three.

one of the hits he gave up in the fourth was a swinging bunt that barnwell couldnt make a play on.

I saw him several times in the Fall League, and I think he could be a 4 man right now, and eventually top out as a 2 or 3. Does he throw 95? no. But he changes speeds very well, has devastating offspeed stuff (as we saw), and they don't hit balls hard off of him. Lots of groundouts.
