What I love about today is that it's kind of reassuring. I mean, I know that on the next three Link Reports I'm going to see an exciting AAA prospect. Throw in Villanueva, Ben the groundball machine, and someone like Rogers, and this is another tasty day

Nashville Site:

Saturday night's series opener between the Nashville Sounds and Iowa Cubs, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and delayed initially by rain, has been postponed due to a power outage in the area surrounding Greer Stadium.

The game will be made up as part of a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The power outage was a result of a one-car accident involving an electrical pole beyond the center field fence. Officials were unable to determine when power would be restored.

In Sunday's twinbill, Nashville right-hander Ben Hendrickson (0-1, 6.14) will start the opener and face Iowa southpaw Renyel Pinto (0-2, 11.32). Left-hander Jeff Housman (1-0, 4.02) will start the nightcap for the Sounds and face right-hander Sergio Mitre (1-2, 4.24).

Final: Huntsville 5, West Tenn (Cubs) 3

LHP Dana Eveland has walked three, struck out 24 in 21.2 IP...

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Link with Mitch Stetter photo, text follows:

www.huntsvillestars.com/s...newsId=571

Vinny Rottino collected three hits, scored a run and knocked in a run and Mitch Stetter tossed two scoreless innings in relief to preserve the Stars 5-3 win over West Tenn Saturday night in the second game of a three-game series. The Stars won for a seventh time in eight games to even their record at 8-8, while the DiamondJaxx lost for just the second time in eight games and slipped to 10-6. The Stars won for just the second time in nine games on the road and handed the DiamondJaxx their fourth loss in nine home games.

The visitors jumped on starter Jae-kuk Ryu for three runs in the first inning, their highest scoring first inning of the year. Kennard Bibbs led off with a double and scored on a two-out single by Tony Zuniga, who knocked in his eighth run of the year. Rottino followed with a double to left field that moved Zuniga to third before Matt Murton?s errant throw back to the infield allowed Zuniga to score to make it 2-0. Jeff Winchester then singled into left field to plate Rottino to knock in his fifth run of the season.

Stars? starter Dana Eveland, who had yielded only two runs in his first three starts, could not hold the lead and gave up three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Murton belted a two-out, solo home run to right field, his third of the year to get the home team on the board. Brandon Sing doubled and scored on a double by Casey McGehee, who drove in his fourth run of the series, before coming into score on a Bucky Coats single.

The score remained tied at three until the fifth when the visitors tallied twice with the help of wildness by Ryu. The Korean right-hander yielded a one-out single to Tony Gwynn, Jr. and then uncorked three wild pitches to push the Stars center fielder across the plate with the go-ahead run. Callix Crabbe had worked a walk after Gwynn?s hit and scored on a double by Rottino with two away that gave Huntsville a 5-3 edge.

Eveland retired 12 in a row after allowing a leadoff single in the second inning before Murton led off the sixth with a single, moved to second on an infield hit by Sing and to third base on a throwing error by Zuniga. However, the Stars southpaw buckled down and struck out McGehee and Coats and induced Adam Greenberg to ground out to end the threat and keep the Stars in the lead.

Matt Ford worked a scoreless seventh inning and Stetter took over in the eighth. He allowed a one-out single and got out of the frame with a ground ball double play and stranded Jose Reyes at first after a one-out, pinch-hit single in the ninth. Stetter earned his first save of the year and joined Matt DeWitt and Jerome Gamble in the save column for the Stars. The left-hander has allowed only one run in 10 2/3rd innings of work and has recorded at least one strikeout in six straight appearances.

The Stars will send right-hander Dennis Sarfate to the hill for the final game of the series Sunday against Jaxx right-hander Ricky Nolasco. Coverage of the game gets underway at 12:50 p.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

The good news is that tonight's start by Eveland probably was his worst at the AA level, if that makes sense. That BB to K ratio is outstanding. The guy just keeps on dealing. With his polish, at what point do we see him bumped up to AAA?

Nice to see Carlos Villanueva continue to pitch well. I know there were a lot of nice reports on him out of Beloit last year. He could be a semi-sleeper (there are no real prospect sleepers around these parts).

I almost forgot about last year...so he's now thrown about 45 innings in AA. I would assume 75 innings is about what they'd want to see, so for him, mid-May. I say 75, because that's about half a season's worth

Of course, we'll probably have to wait for a spot to open up for Eveland at the AAA level. If there is an injury at the big-league level (or at Nashville), that likely would set off a chain reaction of some kind.

Dennis Sarfate is another guy that is deserving of a promotion since he pitched all last season at Huntsville. Here's to another good outing for him tomorrow.

Because the Marlins and Cardinals share Roger Dean Stadium, the Manatees continue their road trip Sunday in the same stadium -- against a different team...and another power failure here, that's two tonight!

Brevard County Game Summary (Hammerheads' Site):

It took 12 innings, but the Hammerheads finally pulled out a 4-3 victory over the Brevard County Manatees tonight at Roger Dean Stadium. Hammerheads catcher Tony Arnerich proved to be the game?s hero, knocking in the winning run with a base hit to left in the bottom of the 12th. Kevin Rival (0-1), who pitched the final two innings for Brevard, took the loss. Manuel Olivera (1-0), who pitched the top of the 12th, gets his first win on the season.

The game began with the promise of a pitching duel between Brevard starter Carlos Villanueva and Jupiter?s James Russ. It in fact was that way up until both men left the game after each pitched six innings. Both men left the game with Brevard leading 2-1. Villanueva was solid in his third appearance of the year, giving up one run on five hits while striking out seven. Russ faced 25 batters, yielding two runs on four hits and striking out six.

The 2-1 score would remain until the bottom of the 8th, when power became the story of the evening. After a Jose Campusano infield single and an Alejandro De Aza sacrifice, the power went out at Roger Dean Stadium. The outage was caused by a surge, which shut down everything in the stadium. It took seven minutes for the lights to turn on and play to resume. Once it did, Frank Moore grounded out to second, before Angel Molina delivered a two-run blast that hit the light tower in left, putting the Hammerheads up 3-2.

Jupiter reliever Kevin Cave could not hold the lead in the 9th, yielding a solo homer to designated hitter Jeff Eure on the first pitch of the inning. It was Cave?s first blown save of the year, an uncharacteristic hiccup from the Hammerhead bullpen, which has been outstanding as of late. Coming into the game, the bullpen had pitched 16 and two-thirds innings, allowing only two earned runs in their last four games, including five perfect innings last night.

In the bottom of the 12th, Michael Tucker singled up the middle to begin the winning rally. After Kevin Randel struck out looking, Reggie Abercrombie was intentionally walked, opening the door for Arnerich. Arnerich singled to left, driving in the game winning run and capping off a wild night at the Dean. The Hammerheads won the series 2-1, evening the season series between the two teams at three games apiece.

The Manatees will remain in Abacoa for the next three games to face the Palm Beach Cardinals.

Are Helling and Pratt just filler at this point? Or is there some sort of expectation that they can be useful to Milwaukee should there be an injury of some sort?

I'd be inclined to get rid of those two as soon as Dennis and Dana are ready to make the jump to AAA... unless, of course, something happens and Hendrickson or Capellan are promoted.

I would think Helling would be given the choice...move to relief or be released. Probably a solid vet to have around. Pratt would be cut, because as much as he might has a nice arm, there's a lot of hard throwers who can never put it together
