Since Beloit appears to have 27 players now, perhaps we'll see something like Trofholz to High Desert and Boyd to Huntsville?

First-hand account of Mark Rogers's performance from our friends at the ESPN message board:

boards.espn.go.com/cgi/ml...&id=175129

"Wow............I have never been that close to that hard of a thrower.

His ball is heavy, and live.

7 batters.............3 put the bat on the ball, 2 foulballs and a ground out to SS.

5 K's. & 1 hit batter on a 1-2 count.

His curve is knee buckeling, in fact 2 times I buckled.

Change of pace is equally devistating.

This kid is awesome, if 1st impressions mean anything........I am convinced. "

According to a first-hand account from a poster on the ESPN board that just got back from seeing Mark Rogers pitch..

Link

Looks like he was pretty impressive. His line:

2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HBP

Faced 7 batters, struck out 5, hit one, one ground out to SS.

Only 3 batters put the bat on the ball (2 foul balls, the grounder to SS)

In progress: San Jose (Giants) 10, High Desert 0, after one inning

I can't tell you what happened to Manny Parra and the Mavs here, as I'm watching perhaps the most dramatic regular season game I've seen in years (Red Sox / Yanks tied in the 12th), but this is what Sports Network is reporting.

10-0. Ugh...

The High Desert play-by-play man says that Parra just never looked very comfortable out there tonight, but he did stress that it didn't appear to be anything physical, which was what i was worried about.

I believe he said that all 10 runs were unearned...I may not have heard him correctly, but that's what i thought he said...I guess we'll have to wait and see the box score.

Indianapolis Post-Game Notes:

Russell Branyan?s two-run homer in the fifth inning off Tribe starter Pedro Liriano (3-7) helped Buffalo dispose of Indianapolis Thursday night as the Bisons defeated the Tribe, 4-2.

Buffalo amassed 12 hits off Tribe pitching, while the Indians produced eight hits, two each from Chris Magruder and Chris Coste and a solo homer from Steve Scarborough in the third inning. The Tribe left eight runners on base and squandered several opportunities to catch the Bisons late in the game.

Indianapolis falls to 37-41 and Buffalo improves to 44-36. Indianapolis will travel to Louisville Friday for a single game before returning to Victory Field to face the same Bats on Saturday and Sunday.

QUOTE:

Chris Magruder on the Indians loss:

"We played a pretty good team tonight," Magruder said. "They pitched well and hit well. It seems like when things aren?t going well, we?re not getting the key hits that we need. Hopefully, we?ll get back on track. It?s hard to point a finger at either our pitching or offense. We just haven?t been consistent with either one. We?ll bounce back."

NOTES:

Chris Magruder has hit .357 in his last 10 games.

Catcher Mark Johnson was not available as he returned home to Warner Robbins, Ga. for the birth of his first-born son.

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

The Stars needed a win like this. After a disheartening extra-inning loss to Mobile the night before, Huntsville rebounded from deficits of 5-1, 6-3 and 7-6 to defeat the Bay Bears, 10-7, on Thursday night at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars (5-3, 36-41) snapped their three-game skid and regained sole possession of first place in the Southern League West second-half standings.

Down 6-3 in the sixth, Huntsville battled back against Bears reliever Rene Miniel. Making his Stars debut, outfielder Jamie Gann delivered three key hits and drove in two runs, and his last hit opened Huntsville?s sixth-inning rally. Gann led off with a single, then Chris Barnwell was hit by a pitch. Ozzie Chavez dropped down a sacrifice bunt, and catcher Nick Trzesniak threw the ball up the rightfield line, scoring Gann. With runners at first and third, Miniel committed two wild pitches, scoring Barnwell and sending Chavez to third. Pinch-hitter Johnny Raburn?s sacrifice fly tied the game, 6-6.

Trailing 7-6 in the seventh, Huntsville rocked Mike Bumstead, as Tony Gwynn Jr. doubled and scored on Prince Fielder?s single, his third hit of the game. After Fielder stole second base, Brad Nelson singled home Fielder for the Stars? first lead, 8-7. In the eighth, Rickie Weeks? run-scoring double, his third hit in the contest, made it 9-7, and Weeks scored on third baseman Rico Washington?s throwing error for a 10-7 advantage.

Fielder paced Huntsville?s 15-hit outburst, two more hits than the Stars had over their three previous losses combined. Fielder went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Gann finished 3-for-4 with three singles, two runs batted in and one run scored. Weeks went 3-for-5 with two doubles, driving in one and scoring one. Gwynn was 2-for-5, doubling, bunting for a hit and scoring twice. Nelson, Ozzie Chavez and Kade Johnson each had a hit apiece.

Stars reliever Fernando Rijo (2-3) picked up his second win, fanning two while allowing one run on one hit and one walk in two innings. Bumstead (0-1) suffered his first loss, permitting three runs on four hits with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. John Novinsky saved his eighth game, striking out one in a perfect ninth.

Stars lefty Matt Ford (1-2, 3.55) meets Mobile?s all-star righty Chris Rojas (6-4, 3.38) in game three of the series Friday night at Joe Davis Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m. for a Fireworks Friday and Tim Hudson Bobblehead giveaway courtesy of Papa John?s and WAAY-TV 31.
