Update, in progress: Buffalo (Indians) 1, Indianapolis 1, after nine innings

That was a high-powered Buffalo offense Ben Hendrickson shut down tonight; Ben's next scheduled start is Saturday, which will synchronize his pitching schedule with that of Wes Obermueller, also slated to go Saturday for Milwaukee...

Still 1-1 as Indy/Buffalo go to the top of the 12th. Coste K'ed with Durrington on 3rd to end the 11th.

Mass- Just accessed sports network. Everything seems to be in working order from my computer.

Bergeon with a 2-Run walk off HR in the 12th. After the Bisons took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 12th.

Peter was 0-5 and pretty much 0 for June before the HR.

Final: Burlington (Royals) 7, Beloit 5

The Snappers led 5-4 heading into the bottom of the 8th, but the Bees scored a tying run in the 8th and then got a two-run walk-off HR to win it in the ninth...

By the way, has anybody been able to access the Sports Network scoreboards the last two days? I can't get past the screen where it asks you to accept their agreement.

Yeah, I'll have to ask advice on the Off-Topic Forum if I can't figure this out soon. I've double-checked my privacy (cookie) settings and I'm not having trouble elsewhere. SportsNetwork just keeps feeding me the "accept" screen. Guess I won't be posting any game log links for a while http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif

EDIT: Figured it out, while checking the online calendar yesterday, I had set the computer date to July 29th instead of June 29th -- that somehow threw off my cached cookies, and for all of you bored with the low-level techno-talk, my apologies...

Indianapolis Post-Game Notes:

Peter Bergeron lifted a two-run homer to right field in the bottom of the 12th inning Tuesday night as the Tribe came from behind to defeat the Buffalo Bisons, 3-2.

Ben Hendrickson pitched nine innings, the most this year from any Indians pitcher, to keep the Tribe in the contest as the two teams ended regulation at 1-1. Hendrickson gave up one run on five hits, did not walk a hitter and struck out nine.

Hendrickson dueled with Bisons starter Kyle Denney, who gave up a run on two hits in seven innings.

In the 12th, Russell Branyan connected on his 18th homer of the season off Matt Childers to give the Bisons a 2-1 lead. In the bottom half of the frame, Bisons reliever Kane Davis struck out Chris Coste, then walked Matt Erickson. Davis then struck out Steve Scarborough before giving up the game winning homer to Bergeron, his second of the season with the Tribe.

Indianapolis halted a three-game losing streak with the victory and improves to 37-39. Buffalo falls to 42-36.

QUOTE:

Ben Hendrickson on his pitching performance:

"I felt like all three pitches were working tonight," Hendrickson said. "I worked the fastball in very well. I threw a lot of changeups for strikes. We played good defense and I had confidence in my teammates."

Peter Bergeron on game winning home run:

"I?m going up to the plate 0 for 5," Bergeron said. "I was just trying to hit the ball hard. I just got a little bit lucky. Just the effort our pitchers put in tonight would have been difficult to lose this game. "

NOTES:

Following Wes Helms? return to Milwaukee, Jeff Liefer was outrighted by the Brewers on Saturday and has been designated for assignment with Indianapolis. Liefer will join the Tribe on Wednesday. The 29-year-old played in 16 games for Milwaukee and hit .214 with one homer and five RBI. Prior to his promotion, Liefer led Indianapolis in many categories including hitting (.339), home runs (11) and RBI (44).

Indianapolis is now 19-18 at home and 3-4 in extra innings.

no mention of his money pitch (curveball)...if he is confident with his fastball/changeup...he's going to have great nights like this for many years...throw in his curveball and he can dominate.

no need to rush the young guy though...no reason

"no need to rush the young guy though...no reason"

If you thought Lil' Ben's starts over Oby's would yield three extra wins between July and October, would that be a big enough reason.

I dont know what Ben has more to prove at AAA. And Obermeuller has lots to prove and lots of work to get in. I just cannot see why a straight Obermeuller for Hendrickson swap should not be done.

I agree with Davis (I think he said it) that if THIS team gets un into contention, like we are now, why change THIS team. You almost have to agree. But it is obvious that an Obermeuller for Hendrickson swap makes about the most sense as any in the world. How can it not be done? I can only think that Al's scenario can hurt (Ben gets hurt in Spring Training and spends 3 years on the DL chewing up service time, ala Neugebauer). And that cant happen.

And speaking of Hart... (well, maybe not yet, maybe a couple of weeks...)

if he is confident with his fastball/changeup

nikip43, when I saw him in the Fall league I'd estimate he threw 70% fastballs with enough movement that guys were either sawed off or couldn't get any lift on them. Lots of swings and misses by the game's top prospects at his fastball, too.

Arizona Brewers Box Score:

Victory! Shaky to poor pitching outings other than that of Rafael Lluveres, the only LHP of the 13 pitchers to see action in Arizona thus far; the U.S. born high school kids, Stephen Chapman and Lenny Leclercq (four K's, one BB) off to slow starts; David Krynzel -- base hit, BB, HBP -- hopefully did not leave the game due to the latter; TRIBARREN 2B is a misspell of Hernan Iribarren, now 14-for-26 at the plate -- Iribarren, 20 years old yesterday, had the best numbers (.329 in 450 AB's) of the DSL kids, but without much power -- hopefully the stats guys adjust those numbers going forward, the Brewers probably need to make a request; 2003 15th round draft-and-follow OF Joel Rivera with his first two base hits (2-for-13); the amazing Carlos Gallardo now with an OPS of 1.342 after his first six-game sample...

Helena Box Score:

Big (6'7") RHP Alvaro Martinez (no hits allowed, five walks) must be such an imposing figure on the mound; first time we've seen Agustin Septimo in the OF in his pro career; former Brewer draft pick Ray Liotta (2nd round pick for the ChiSox this year) made his pro debut, a shaky one at that; such website problems as of late -- the Helena newspaper coverage is delayed today; the Helena site is officially the worst in pro baseball, unfortunately, with no updates since the season started...

Beloit Game Summary from the Burlington Site:

The Burlington Bees (3?3, 25?51) beat the Beloit Snappers (2?4, 40?36) for the first time this year as Jeff Barry's walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Bees to a 7?5 win at Community Field tonight. The win evened this series against Beloit, although the Snappers have still won five of six on the year.

The Snappers scored first in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Lou Palmisano, but the Bees evened the score in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Angel Sanchez. In the top of the fourth, the Snappers got a leadoff triple from Adam Heether and loaded the bases with one out before Bees' starter Chris Goodman's wild pitch brought Heether in to make it 2?1. Goodman got out of the inning when Terry Trofholz flew out in foul territory down the right field line and Bryan Graham threw out Steve Moss at the plate trying to tag and score.

The Snappers added a third run in the sixth on a leadoff double by Heether followed by a sacrifice bunt and an RBI double to center field by Manuel Ramirez. Those were the only runs allowed by Goodman, who worked seven innings and left the game with a chance to win because the Bees got one run back in the bottom of the sixth on a solo homer by Mitch Maier and took the lead in the bottom of the seventh with two more runs. Bryan Graham tied the game with an RBI double to center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sanchez to right. The double knocked out Snappers' starter Brian Montalbo and Sanchez drove in the go?ahead run against reliever Tim Dillard. Montalbo allowed four runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings.

Dusty Dossett took over for Goodman in the eighth and gave up two runs. With one out Moss walked and Ramirez doubled. Moss scored on a groundout to second and Ramirez came in as Trofholz ripped a single up the middle that ricocheted off Dossett's glove that put the Snappers up 5?4.

The Bees tied the game in the bottom of the eighth when Kila Kaaihue blasted a home run the opposite way to left. It was Kaaihue's seventh homer, tying him with Chris Lubanski for the team lead. Dossett (3?4) worked a scoreless ninth and then in the bottom of the ninth, Dillard (1?4) walked Walter Sevilla to start the inning and after a strikeout, Barry laced a 1?0 pitch over the wall in left for the game?winner. It was Barry's first homer of the year and the first Bees walkoff homer win in at least six seasons.

The Bees and Snappers continue this series tomorrow night at 7:00 at Community Field. RH Chris Coughlin (1?1, 8.53) will start for the Bees against LH Dana Eveland (5?2, 3.75) for the Snappers.

Helena Independent Republic Game Story:

Brewers handcuff White Sox

By KEVIN SHIVELY - IR Sports Writer

The Great Falls White Sox weren't able to make the late-game comeback they did the night before, and the Helena Brewers beat them 6-1 Tuesday at Kindrick Legion Field in Helena.

The White Sox, who won Monday's game with a ninth-inning grand slam, were only able to manage three hits on Tuesday.

"They bounced back really well from two tough losses," said Helena manager Johnny Narron. "They fought hard and focused the whole game."

Helena starter Alvaro Martinez took a few pitches to focus, but once he did, it was lights out.

The 19-year-old pitcher out of Venezuela threw balls on his first seven pitches, walking leadoff batter Derrick McNeil and falling behind 3-0 on Ferny Alvarez before collecting himself.

He came back to strike out Alvarez and throw five scoreless, hitless innings against the White Sox.

Martinez, who collected his second win of the season, struck out three in his five-inning stint on the mound.

Brandon Murray came in in the sixth and allowed one run and two hits. He also struck out four. Justin Wilson pitched the ninth, fanning two.

The Brewer defense only had one error in the game, called against catcher Charlie Lozada in the ninth inning.

"We don't count that one," said Narron. "Apparently the bat touched his glove on the swing."

The interference call put a second baserunner on for the Great Falls club, but Wilson struck out two in a row for the last two outs of the game.

At the plate, the Brewers had nine hits, started off by Gilberto Acosta, who took the first pitch of the first inning for a ride, hitting one of his two doubles in the game.

Steve Sollman advanced Acosta to third on a line drive, and Tony Festa singled to drive him home.

Acosta crossed the plate three times in the game, twice on RBI from Festa.

"We hit the ball really well tonight," said Narron. "Especially with men in scoring position."

Adam Mannon collected two RBI in the third inning, on a two-run homer over the left field wall, putting the Brewers up 3-0. Mannon was 2-for-4 for the night.

Lozada also had two hits in the game; a double in the second, and a single in the third that allowed him to score on a squeeze play.

The Brewers improved their record to 7-4 with the win and are in first place in the North.

They will travel to Missoula today to face the Osprey. Josh Wahpepah (1-0) is expected to pitch for the Helena club.

Festa, who hadn't tagged up, was at second base when Rivera caught the ball and had to hustle back to first. Festa eventually scored on a two-run homer by Adam Mannon.
