I believe Helena is piggybacking their starters and if I remember correctly Baker started the last game and Hinton came in for him. Im assuming that it will indeed Hinton and then Baker tonight.

Im hoping Josh bounces back from a rough opening start.

Final: Arizona Cubs 8, Arizona Brewers 6

Your team plays errorless ball. Your opponents make seven errors. Yet you lose to fall to 0-4. That should be one heck of a box score Sunday AM...

Huntsville highlights.

Ford gave up a two run double early. Barnwell with an error.

Weeks with a run scoring single in the 3rd. 7 game hitting streak.

fielder with an error that led to a run.

barnwell with another error, leads to a run. 4-1

Nelson threw a guy out at home in the 3th inning on a single with a guy at second.

Ford goes 3 innings with 66 pitches, not all his fault, poor d.

Weeks with a basehit 2 for the night.

Gwynn- 2 base error, 2nd and 3rd.

prince grounded to 3rd and got an rbi,

Nelson- big HR to take the lead. This all in the 5th i think in the game.

He seems for REAL! In two years jenkins is gonna be real expendable, if not after next season.

for whatever the brewers do these days, i feel very confident that in two years, this team is gonna be very very differnt and in a very good way.

Weeks 3-5 2rbi run scored.

Nelson with the big blast, players of the game.

Indianapolis Game Log:

Tonight's Indianapolis pre-game notes only projects a rotation through Sunday (Jorge de la Rosa) -- unusual based on their past releases. Clint Weibl makes an unexpected relief appearance tonight. Always interesting to speculate, but the Brewers may send down a pitcher to take Weibl's rotation slot (Wes Obermueller?) when Wes Helms is activated Tuesday. We'll see...

In progress: Inland Empire 7, High Desert 1, bottom of the 7th at Friendly Mavericks Stadium

The Mavericks have more errors (five) than base hits (one) thus far -- and just think, four days off starting Sunday with that taste in their mouths; one of the best young prospects in all of baseball, Seattle's Felix Hernandez, just cruising here -- Fernandez is an 18-year-old who toys with Cal League hitters -- yikes!

Indianapolis Post-Game Notes:

Syracuse knocked out Tribe starter Pedro Liriano Saturday night as the SkyChiefs defeated Indianapolis, 9-4. Glenn Williams and Julius Matos slammed homers off the Indianapolis starter to build a 9-0 lead, before the Tribe rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Ryan Glynn (2-2) limited Indianapolis to five hits in eight innings, fanning six Tribe hitters.

Liriano (3-6) picked up the loss as Indianapolis fell to 36-37. Syracuse improves to 31-45.

The two teams meet at Victory Field Sunday for the final of a four-game series. The first 4,000 fans will receive a retro cap, courtesy of WTHR-13, Marsh and O?Malia?s.

QUOTE:

Cecil Cooper, Indians manager on the loss:

"We simply did not pitch well," said Cooper. "In order for us to be successful, we have to pitch well. We have to make pitches. We can?t afford to fall behind so many hitters. We fell behind all night. This has been a trend of late, but that?s what we?ve done. You can?t pitch behind good hitters and expect to win. That just puts too much pressure on this team."

NOTES:

The crowd of 12,133 was the largest of the season at Victory Field.

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Stars Rally for Fifth Straight Victory

It was a different formula but a familiar result. The Stars rallied from 4-1 down for their season-high fifth straight victory, 6-4, over the G-Braves (3-1, 29-44) on Saturday night at Municipal Stadium. Huntsville (4-0, 36-38) maintained sole possession of first place in the Southern League West second-half standings.

Down 4-1 in the fifth, the Stars struck against former big leaguer Brian Moehler. With one out, pitcher Glenn Woolard singled up the middle. Rickie Weeks followed with a base hit to left, one of his three singles in the game. Tony Gwynn Jr. hit a grounder between first and second, where Aaron Herr could not field the ball as he avoided contact with the base runner Weeks. The ball rolled untouched into shallow right-center, scoring Woolard from second and sending Gwynn and Weeks to second and third. Prince Fielder knocked in a run with a broken-bat groundout to short, and Brad Nelson slammed a two-run homer, his 15th of the season, to put Huntsville up, 5-4. Huntsville added an insurance run in the sixth on Weeks? run-scoring single.

For the fourth straight game, the Stars? bullpen was perfect, delivering six scoreless innings. Woolard (1-0) tossed three shutout frames for his first Southern League win, allowing one hit and two walks. Fernando Rijo permitted two hits and fanned three over two scoreless innings, and John Novinsky recorded his seventh save, permitting one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in the ninth. Novinsky fanned Bill McCarthy with the tying runs in scoring position to end the game. Moehler (2-4) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on 10 hits and one walk with five strikeouts in six innings.

Stars lefty Jeff Housman (1-4, 3.59) meets G-Braves righty Izzy Pineda (2-4, 6.29) in game two of the series Sunday night at Municipal Stadium. Game time is 4:15 p.m. CT and the FPH Financial Pre-game Show starts at 4:00 p.m. CT. Stars baseball can be heard on ESPN 1450 and at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Hey, what happened to Angel Salome???? I can't find his ame in any box score.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

There will be a Daily Press High Desert game story a bit later -- for now, this from the San Bernadino Sun has plenty of detail, and gives you some perspective to this Hernandez kid:

Hernandez, Sixers roll over High Desert, 7-3

By MICHELLE GARDNER, Staff Writer

ADELANTO - This time the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino didn't wait until the final inning to mount an offensive attack.

They scored five runs in the sixth inning to blow open what was a close game and went on to a 7-3 victory over the High Desert Mavericks on Saturday in front of 2,760 fans at Mavericks Stadium in the final game before the all-star break.

The Sixers (4-2), who needed a seven-run ninth Friday for an 8-5 victory, led 2-1 when they got the big inning this time. The carnage started with a one-out single by Jon Nelson, who scored on a double by Pichi Balet.

Carlos Arroyo drove home a run with a single, and newcomer Erick Monzon hit a long fly ball that was mishandled by Mario Mendez, allowing two runs to score.

"You like to think that momentum we had after Friday night would carry over,' Sixers manager Daren Brown said. "I guess it did because we came out and scored two right away in the first, then had a big inning after that. This is definitely a good way to end the half.'

That run support was more than enough for phenom Felix Hernandez, who was spectacular once again. Hernandez (9-3) went seven innings and struck out a season-high 11, fanning every hitter in the Mavericks lineup at least once. He gave up just one run and three hits.

Hernandez set down 15 consecutive hitters between the second and sixth innings.

Hernandez's strong showing over the last six weeks has fueled speculation that he could soon be headed to Double-A San Antonio.

In his last eight starts, the 18-year-old Venezuelan is 5-1 with a 1.97 ERA. In 50 innings, he has given up 42 hits and struck out 68. He has allowed 11 earned runs over that stretch but four came in one game.

Hernandez said he thinks about the possibility of being promoted, but says he is focused on the task at hand.

"This is a good league,' Hernandez through teammate and interpreter Rene Rivera. "It's not as easy as it looks. I just try and do the job every day. I still have to make good pitches when I'm out there.'

The lone run Hernandez gave up came in the second when he walked Travis Hinton, who advanced on a single by John Vanden Berg and a sacrifice bunt by Mendez. He scored on an infield ground out that closed the gap to 2-1.

The Sixers collected 10 hits with Nelson and Balet getting three each and Arroyo managing two.

66ers notes

There was one official scoring change from Friday night's game. A grounder deep in the hole off the bat of newcomer Erick Monzon was originally ruled an error on High Desert shortstop Enrique Cruz but was changed to a hit, making Monzon 1-for-5. It also made the lone run charged to Mavs starter Khalid Ballouli earned rather than unearned.

The Brewers only run came in the first inning when Hasan Rasheed came home on a wild pitch.

The Brewers left 11 men on base in the game.
