International Free Agents -- Latest: Baseball America discusses the DSL

Ben Badler of Baseball America is doing a really nice, division by division recap of the international free agent signings. As guessed, the Brewers didn't get involved with any of the higher profile players (players that require a 6-figure bonus), but he does have some info on the players the Brewers did sign. Subscribers can view the details here:

Here's a summary of the players they did sign:

Luis Chirinos - Venezuelan corner OF signed for $90,000. Turned 16 in late August.

Jaime King - 6'4", 210 pound 19-year old Dominican RHP. Touches low-90s with CB and CH.

Jose Ramos - another 19-year old Dominican RHP. Also touches the low-90s.

LHP Manuel Ruiz is the latest Latin American youngster to be signed, according to Baseball America. More info at press guide time in the spring, but any signing that begins with "LHP" gets an automatic approval bump just on potential alone http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.

Baseball America reports the Brewers have signed RHP Heri Olivo. Since the BA transaction note is the only mention of Heri Olivo anywhere on the world wide web, we're guessing it's a raw Latin talent signing his first pro contract. Olivo's signing may or may not sneak into the media guide when it's available next month. We may not learn more (peripherals, home country) until rookie leagues begin in June.

Good news from Ben Badler at BA (subscribers only link), the Brewers have made some fairly high ticket signings. Olivio, previously mentioned by Mass Hass, and speedy athletic SS Andres Martinez are both 17 year olds that have been signed for $225,000 each. Barrini also got 6 figures. Great to add some Latin talent to the system.
