Rogers gave up an earned run. I say we cut him.

Man, that's exciting. Rogers keeps mowing 'em down. I'm also glad the Brewers are taking it nice & easy with the young man, which reflects their entire approach with their pitchers this year. A few years ago, the previous regime likely would have started Rogers at Helena, while Saenz & Jones might have been pushed to pitch through arm injuries.

Actually the Brewers have scheduled a news conference for May 3rd of next year to annuonce that Mark Roger's right arm has been gnawed off by a mutated lobster. The Brewers decided to keep Rogers on a very strict pitch count preserving that excellent arm, they did so keeping him under 65 innings for the summer. He went home and on the day before he is to leave for Ogden he was at the dock saying bye to the other lobsterman when a forty foot lobster jumped onto the dock and severed his right arm.

Tis a shame, but I wouldn't be shocked given our recent history.

Box scores can also be deceiving. Rogers was almost to the 3rd base line with a routine pop out only to have an outfielder lose a ball in the sun and have it drop in front of him....but that's baseball.

Snappers lose to Lansing 4-3...

Carlos Villanueva with the start...shaky beginning and he was lucky to escape with only 3 runs scored. Deevers dropped an easy fly ball....Dopirak up next mashes an opposite field homer. Next batter...2nd baseman hits a shot to center. Villanueva gave up a few more hits but escaped.

Bottom of 1st Truffles leads off with a well hit ball to right center....comes around 2nd...only problem...ball was almost to the infield already..nailed going for third.

Heether smashed a double and my boy Stevie Moss doubled him in.

Rottino smashed a 2-run shot to left in the bottom of the 8th during the downpour.

Rain started around the 7th inning...suprised they didn't call a delay...played on. By the time the bottom of the 8th came it was really, really coming down and they still played. It was pretty cool watching the Rottino dinger sail out in a downpour.

Tale of the night: bad calls. Truffles thrown out at second on a steal attempt. Looked like Terry was in there...ball a bit high and Terry was really low on his slide, but ump said he got the tag in there.. Vinny had a single...Heether ground into a sure double play to short...2 bagger bobbles it and drops it....Vinny called out at 2nd. I believe this was the inning where we had bases loaded with one out and couldn't score. Heether incidently was on 3rd so take that for what it's worth. Nice play in the field by Heether...snags a ball and fires...nails the runner by about a step...ump said Vinny's foot was pulled off...on a bullet right at him...Diggs who was coaching ran out there and ended up getting tossed.

Moreira didn't look so hot. First batter gets on...next batter hits a slow one to him...he turns for the double play...ball goes about 20 feet in the air into center. Plus control was a bit of an issue as well.

Deevers sucks...he ended the bases loaded by getting out I believe looking, also last batter of the game...two runners on, down by one with Guilder pinch running standing on second.....what does one do...swing as hard as possible of course and Robbie DEEveRs strikes out, once again looking. I never thought that I would be calling for a Josh Murray pinch hit attempt until the 9th inning tonight when Robbie strode up there.

Heether looks great defensively at 3rd. A real treat to watch. He made a great diving attempt to his right and managed to get up and fire the runner out.

Dopirak for Lansing is fun to watch as well. The dude just kills it. He is probably my "sure fire to make it" player this year in the MWL out of all the players I've seen play...that includes the All-Star game folks.

All you can eat night at the park and a fun time. If you've never been there...try it out.

“I'm a beast, I am, and a Badger what's more. We don't change. We hold on."  C.S. Lewis

Mav's up 7-3 in the 8th inning. Harper had some problems in the 5th. Two balls misplayed in the outfield and two botched double play balls. They went as earned runs though. Looks bad on the pitcher, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Final: Charlotte (White Sox) 4, Indianapolis 3

Man, oh, man -- I do worry about Cecil Cooper's state of mind at this point...

Sports Network Game Wrap:

Kelly Dransfeldt scored the game-winning run on an error by Corey Hart and the Charlotte Knights topped the Indianapolis Indians, 4-3, in International League action on Monday night.

Indianapolis (42-52) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Luis Figueroa drove home the Indians' first run of the game with an RBI single that plated Mark Johnson. Figueroa scored two batters later when Matt Erickson slapped a base hit through the right side. Dave Krynzel capped off the rally with a run-scoring single of his own.

Charlotte (46-51) answered in the bottom half of the inning. Jonathan Aceves belted a solo home run with one out to cut the lead to 3-1.

Aaron McNeal followed by drawing a walk, then Dransfeldt quickly tied the game by depositing Matt Childers' 1-0 pitch over the left field wall. The home run was Dransfeldt's third of the season.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the eighth. Todd Erdos looked as if he was going to cruise through the inning by striking out both Aceves and McNeal, however, Dransfeldt smoked a double to the gap in right center field to set up the go-ahead run.

Wilson Valdez followed by lofting a routine fly ball to right, but a costly error by Hart allowed Dransfeldt to score.

Jeff Bajenaru came on in the ninth and sealed the win for Ryan Kohlmeier. Kohlmeier (3-9) tossed one inning of scoreless relief. The save was Bajenaru's first for the Knights.

Erdos suffered the loss and is still looking for his first win (0-4) for the Indians this season.

The two teams wrap up their short two-game series on Tuesday at 12:15 PM (ET).

They won BOTH games of their double header. Grant Richardson went 6-9 between the two games. In Game 2, 2nd baseman Carlos De La Cruz picked up the win..Is Helena short on arms or can De La Cruz actually pitch???? This is the 2nd time in the last couple of days where I saw that he pitched.

Final: Mobile (Padres) 2, Huntsville 1

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

With one swing, Josh Barfield ended Huntsville?s four-game winning streak. The Bay Bears? hot second base prospect, Barfield connected for a two-run homer, accounting for all Mobile?s runs in a 2-1 victory over the Stars on Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. Huntsville (14-9, 46-47) fell into a first-place tie with Birmingham in the Southern League West second-half standings.

Stars starter Dennis Sarfate pitched around five walks over the first three innings, tossing no-hit shutout ball. With the game still scoreless in the fourth, Bear Rico Washington blooped a leadoff single to right. On a 3-1 pitch from Sarfate, Barfield hit a towering homer to left-center, his 14th of the year, for a 2-0 Mobile lead.

?Barfield?s been very selective against us,? Stars pitching coach Fred Dabney said, ?He worked the count against Sarfate, and he got a fastball out over the plate. When we make a mistake, he doesn?t miss.?

Huntsville rallied in the sixth, with a leadoff single from Prince Fielder and Jamie Gann?s walk. On a 2-2 pitch with the runners moving, Chris Barnwell struck out and Fielder was caught stealing third. Ryan Knox singled on the infield, sending Gann to third, then Ozzie Chavez singled home Gann and sent Knox to third. Kade Johnson walked to load the bases, but pinch-hitter Johnny Raburn grounded to first to end the threat.

The Bears bullpen closed out the game. Jack Cassel tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings, and Alan Webb recorded the final out of the seventh. R.D. Spiehs threw a perfect eighth, and Brad Baker notched his 22nd save with a 1-2-3 ninth. Starter Mike Thompson (6-0) picked up the win, surrendering one run on five hits and three walks with no strikeouts in five innings.

Huntsville?s bullpen also pitched scoreless ball. Brian Adams authored 1 2/3 perfect innings, and Paul Stewart allowed two hits and fanned two over three shutout innings. Starter Dennis Sarfate (4-9) suffered the loss, permitting two runs on three hits and five walks while fanning three over 3 1/3 innings.

Stars lefty Matt Ford (1-2, 3.72) meets Bears righty Brian Whitaker (5-7, 3.96) in game two of the series Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and the FPH Financial Services Pre-game Show starts at 6:50 p.m. Stars baseball can be heard on ESPN 1450 and at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score:

OK, Stars fans, fill us in -- RHP Jason Shelley a pinch-hitter? Where's Brad Nelson tonight? And didn't most of us see this kind of pitching season for Dennis Sarfate coming with the skip of High Desert?

Final: Arizona Rangers 5, Arizona Brewers 4, 10 innings

Arizona Brewer Box Score:

SS Lenny Leclercq on base three times but still struggling in the field (12 errors in 18 games); Ten of Stephen Chapman's 19 base hits have gone for extra bases, as the 2004 6th round OF has rebounded in a big way from a slow start -- I'm excited; must I really review with you Hernan Iribarren's numbers again? Two extra-base hits among his three knocks in this one. Callix Crabbe, Will Lewis, Iribarren -- why must some of the organization's most exciting offensive infielders be locked into second base? Can we move Iribarren to 3B tomorrow, please? Pretty please?!
