Final: Durham (Devil Rays) 11, Indianapolis 1

Nine losses in a row, most of them ugly; forget the Sexson deal, how about Casey Fossum, Brandon Lyon, and Jorge de la Rosa for Curt Schilling? Not a good year for Joe Garagiola, Jr. with the Diamondbacks...

Indianapolis Box Score:

Check out those ERA's, baby -- whoo-hoo! Hopefully just a scheduled day off for Corey Hart...

That's two consecutive shutouts for the Snappers; ten doubles among Beloit's 14 hits, wow -- nobody goes up hacking like the Snappers, no walks drawn again, 13th among 14 Midwest League teams...

Fact you should know -- LHP Mitch Stetter has struck out 116 and walked only 22 in his 102.2 pro innings pitched; Stetter will be 24 in January, let's continue to stretch him out and consider a Huntsille rotation spot for 2005...

Arizona Brewer Box Score:

2004 8th round high school LHP Brandon Parillo now with an ERA of 0.00 after his first four pro appearances -- only three hits allowed in nine innings; 2003 18th round pick RHP Oscar Montes, like Parillo only 18 years old, has his his best outing among the seven he's made thus far; how ridiculous are 2B Hernan Iribarren's numbers? He collects two singles in four AB's, and his 1.238 OPS in 95 AB's coming into the game actually goes down a point or two, I believe...

In progress: Ogden (Dodgers) 6, Helena 6, after eight innings

Like RoCo, I've had the Mavericks game on instead; according to Sports Network, the H-Brewers (what's a better nickname?) scored four in the 8th to tie things up...

Bo Hall with a career high 10th strikeout in the 7th.

Edit: Lancaster takes the lead on a sac fly, 5-4. Looks like that's it for Bo.

update

Lancaster still leading 5-4, going to the 8th.

Helena and Ogden tied at 6 going to extra innings.

update

Lancaster leads, 6-5 going into the top of the 9th. Hinton with another double.

I know I'm not supposed to care, but I hate it when all or most of our affiliates lose. That High Desert game was certainly frustrating.

Oh well. At least JDLR pitched well.

Mitch Stetter baby....about time Don let him do his Stetter-step in the starting rotation. The thing I like about Mitch, aside from being a tall lefty, is that he challenges hitters early and is not afraid to throw inside on lefties. Nothing better than watching him throw his hellacious bender right at a lefty hitter, watching them jump back and seeing the pitch bust right in there for a strike.

Final: Ogden (Dodgers) 8, Helena 6, 10 innings

Hey, at least they didn't pitch a position player, even in extra innings...

Helena Independent Record Game Story:

Raptors rally in 10th

By KEVIN SHIVELY - IR Sports Writer

The Ogden Raptors scored twice in the top of the 10th inning and Mark Alexander pitched a 1-2-3 bottom half, giving Ogden an 8-6 win over the Helena Brewers on Wednesday at Kindrick Legion Field.

Alexander picked up the win for his 2 2/3 innings of work. He allowed only one hit, one walk, no runs and struck out three.

The Raptors' two runs in the inning were both courtesy of Emilio Marcos, who sent an RBI double down the left-field line for the first run of the inning, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Carter.

Helena was down 6-4 after a three-run inning for Ogden in the eighth, but managed two runs of its own on three hits.

The biggest hit of the inning was an RBI triple from center fielder Charlie Fermaint that scored Jake Serfass. Alberto Segura hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Fermaint.

Fermaint was 2-for-5 in the game with two RBI.

Tied 6-6 to start the ninth inning, the Raptors quickly loaded the bases on a bunt and two walks, one of which was intentional.

With two outs, catcher Chris Westervelt came to the plate. Westervelt, who hit a two-run homer in the second, was thrown out at first by shortstop Alcides Escobar.

In the bottom half of the ninth, Helena outfielder Adam Mannon almost ended the contest on Alexander's first pitch.

Mannon sent a towering shot to deep left field, but Hector Arias caught the ball with his back against the wall.

Mannon was 1-for-5 in the game with a run scored and an RBI.

Brandon Murray, who only pitched the 10th inning, was given the loss, bringing him to 1-1.

Alvaro Martinez started on the mound and pitched five complete innings, allowing only four hits, two walks and striking out four.

Helena drops to 18-14 after the game and the Raptors are one win from .500 at 15-16.

The two teams will play again tonight at 7:05 in the second game of their four-game series in Helena.

The Brewers will look to Josh Wahpepah (2-0) to break their two-game losing streak.

Ogden will put Justin Orenduff (1-1) on the mound.

Indianapolis Post-Game Notes:

The Durham Bulls rocked the Indianapolis Indians Wednesday night in the first game of a two-game series, defeating the Tribe, 11-1. It was the ninth consecutive setback for the Indians. Durham had entered the contest having won just one of its last six games.

Durham jumped on Tribe starter Jorge De La Rosa (1-5) in the first two innings for five runs, including round trippers from Midre Cummings and Jared Sandberg. B.J. Upton reached base three times as the Bulls collected 14 hits.

Chris Coste?s RBI double in the fifth, scoring Jeff Liefer resulted in the lone run for Indianapolis (42-54).

QUOTES:

B.J. Upton, Bulls shortstop on the victory:

?We took advantage of opportunities early in the game,? said Upton. ?We were aggressive from the start. I just get up there and hit and hope for the best.?

NOTES:

Indianapolis sends right-hander Adrian Hernandez to the hill Thursday night in the series finale with the Bulls. Hernandez (0-5) is seeking his first victory of the season and has been pitching well lately, striking out 20 in his last 13 innings pitched.

The Tribe travels to Richmond for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
