The Mav's score 3 runs in top of the 9th and the Mav's take a 3-0 lead...

Manny gave up just 4 hits in 8 shutout innings, while stirking out 6....

We are headed to the bottom of the 9th and Nick Slack has replaced Manny....

Great Job Manny!!! See you in Huntsville soon!!!!

Mav's win!!! 3-1.... Manny with the win... All four hits off Parra were singles.... He threw 92 pitches in his 8 innings of work... He was dominant, especially for the California league.... (Slack gave up 1 run in the 9th but got the save)

Iribarren didn't get a hit? What's up with that??? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Daily Press High Desert Game Story:

Mavs score late to pick up victory

Mavericks' Parra pitches eight scoreless innings

FROM STAFF REPORTS

BAKERSFIELD ? It appeared that the High Desert Mavericks would once again squander a gem of a pitching performance.

But against Bakersfield on Tuesday, the Mavs' bats came through late to provide starter Manny Parra ? who allowed no runs on just four hits in eight innings ? with a win.

High Desert (6-12) tallied three runs in the ninth inning to edge the Blaze 3-1 and snap its four-game losing streak.

Jeff Eure singled with one out in the ninth and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Blaze reliever Chad Orvella. After Bakersfield intentionally walked Travis Hinton, Froilan Villanueva launched a double off the top of the left-center field fence that scored Eure.

The next batter, Ben Van Iderstine, laced a grounder down the first base line to drive in Hinton and Villanueva.

High Desert's scoring came after Bakersfield starter Jamie Shields exited the game having allowed no runs on four hits through eight innings.

In one stretch the Blaze right-hander sent down 15 straight Mavs before Hinton singled in the seventh. Shields struck out seven.

Bakersfield (7-11) scored a run in the bottom of the ninth off Mavs' reliever Nick Slack and eventually sent the tying run to the plate. But Slack held on for his fifth save of the season.

Parra (5-2) earlier this year pitched a five-hit, complete game shutout in High Desert's 4-0 win over San Jose. Against Bakersfield, the right-hander allowed just four singles while striking out six.

The Mavericks are now 2-8 on the road against North Division opponents and have won four of their last six road games overall.
