Link Report for Monday 7/12: Montana, Here we Come!

Since Helena is the only one to play Monday, I thought I would throw this out. I talked to the General Manager about having internet broadcasts instead of listening to the visitor's announcer. He said the cost was way to much because they were a small time baseball market. He was very nice and listened to my complaint and told me it would be in the thousands to try and do this. I also told him that their website was very weak and he said he would look into it. All in all very good baseball for the week I was there. I did talk up the brewerfan.net to a lot of Helena fans.

Final: Billings (Reds) 6, Helena 3

I wonder if the Helena gang knew that they were the only Brewers' affiliate with a game today. Regardless, they really let us down. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anyway, I hope MassBrew got some sleep today... I'll take care of the Helena details.

Helena Box Score:

Josh Baker with a rough outing, allowing three runs in three innings..... Robert Hinton was the hard-luck loser despite holding the Mustangs to five hits in his five and two-thirds innings of work, but that's what you get for tossing two gopher balls, I guess..... Offensively, the Brewers got solid contributions from Charlie Fermaint (2-for-4, 2B), Adam Mannon (2-for-3), and Jake Serfass (1-for-2, 2 BB).....

Helena Game Log:

It looks like a wild one early, but after a few frames both sides seemed to settle down..... The Helena offense was stymied in the fifth; with the bases loaded and only one out, they were unable to get a run home..... Twin killings in the sixth and seventh erased leadoff baserunners and another ended the eighth.....

No game stories yet, but the Billings' organization does a nice job with those so look for one sometime on Tuesday.

Helena Independent Republic Game Story:

Brewers close out homestand with loss to Billings

By KEVIN SHIVELY - IR Sports Writer

The Helena Brewers might have had a shot at coming back from a two-run deficit if the Billings Mustangs hadn't turned double plays in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

The Billings defense kept the Brewers to three batters an inning in the last four frames Monday at Kindrick Legion Field on their way to a 6-3 win, capping off a three-game series victory 2-1.

Ramon Ramirez got the save for Billings. The Venezuela native pitched the last five innings of the game, allowing only three hits and two walks. The Brewers didn't score while he was on the mound.

Helena had an early 1-0 lead in the game after third baseman Tony Festa was hit by a pitch and then scored on a wild pitch from Mustangs starter Jacobo Meque.

The Brewers scored two more times in the third. Steve Sollman was on base with a walk and Grant Richardson was hit by a pitch when designated hitter Charlie Lozada sent a two-out pitch from Meque off the center field wall, scoring Sollman from second and moving Richardson to third.

Charlie Fermaint singled to bring Richardson home and tie the game at 3.

Fermaint was 2-for-4 in the game.

Billings shortstop Paul Janish, who had been a crucial player in the first two games, homered to left-center in the fourth, giving the Mustangs the lead, and slugger Bobby Mosby sent another ball over the fence in the fifth to extend Billings' lead to two.

Billings leadoff hitter Philip Gentry singled in the seventh and scored from second on a Helena error. Gentry was 2-for-5.

Mosby's homer put him in a tie for first in the Pioneer League for RBI with Helena outfielder Adam Mannon. Each player has 23.

Mannon finished the game 2-for-3.

Mosby and Janish each were 2-for-4 in the game.

Robert Hinton, who took the mound in the fourth and pitched five innings was given the loss, but not without collecting nine strikeouts first.

Helena plays the Raptors on Wednesday in Ogden, Utah, for a three-game series before heading to Provo for a series.

The Brewers don't return home until they host Ogden for four games starting July 21.
