Our source for cut-and-paste standings, USA Today, has been off for some time now in their South Atlantic League standings, and I've grown tired of adjusting them manually each day. Can't be sure if the others are 100% correct as well, until further notice we're simply going to link to their Minor League Index page, where you can check out League Leaders and Team Stats as you wish each day -- buyer beware for accuracy:

Capellan had been doing well in the rotation. Wonder if the pen is beat up and they wanted him to do his side work in the game, if he's in the pen to work on things, or he's in the pen for the long haul.

Still, 2 innings and 3 K's is better than what he'd been doing as a starter. Also interesting given the comment recently that Melvin had instructed Nichols to beef up Capellan's workload

Maybe if they actually would keep there relievers relievers and not try making all them starters like i pointed out in the

I am desperately waiting for the shakeup trend

It hurts me to see Nashville it makes me want to cry how they throw all these stiff relievers out there to start when they arent good and they do not want there team full of great hitter to win by bring up any of the big 3 in Huntsville. They could be so good if they would stop starting Pratt, Lehr, Helling( has a few good outings) Weibl, and Bennett

Lehr didnt pitched to bad tonite but i also said there that i would like to see Cappy a Closer

Nashville

1.Capellan(i think he is a major league closer or set up man)

maybe he is getting ready for thathttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

whoops, didn't see this before I posted a thread about it. Still, I think that the Brewers moving their top pitching prospect (#25 prospect overall in baseball according to BA) to the bullpen probably deserves it's own thread.

Final: Albuquerque (Marlins) 3, Nashville 2

Nashville Site Game Summary:

NASHVILLE ? The Nashville Sounds opened their eight-game homestand on the short end of a 3-2 decision against the Albuquerque Isotopes on Monday evening at Greer Stadium.

With the loss, Nashville (33-32) falls to 1 ½ games behind Memphis in the PCL American Conference Northern Division.

Chris Aguila put the visitors on the board early, slugging a one-out solo homer to left off Sounds starter Justin Lehr to give Albuquerque a 1-0 lead.

Corey Hart tied the contest at 1-1 in the fourth when he followed Trent Durrington?s leadoff bunt single with an RBI double into the left field corner, his team-leading 15th two-bagger of the season.

Hart continued his recent hot hitting with a 2-for-4 night at the plate and is batting .400 (26-for-65) over his last 16 games.

Nashville centerfielder Dave Krynzel dropped a two-out fly ball off the bat of Aguila in the top of the fifth to allow a pair of unearned runs to score as the Isotopes assumed a 3-1 lead.

The Sounds pulled within a run in the sixth when Durrington scored on a Kevin Orie sacrifice fly to reduce the Albuquerque lead to 3-2.

Albuquerque starter Nate Bump (1-0) earned the victory in his first Triple-A outing of the season, limiting the Sounds to one run on four hits while fanning six over a solid five innings. Lehr (5-6) drew the loss after allowing three runs (one earned) on only two hits in six frames. J.B. Miadich tossed two scoreless innings to nail down his 11th save of the year for the Isotopes.

The teams continue the series with a 7 p.m. meeting on Tuesday evening at Greer Stadium. Right-hander Gary Glover (NR) will make his Sounds debut when he takes the hill for Nashville. Albuquerque will counter with southpaw Les Walrond (3-4, 4.50).

Depleted Sounds fall to Isotopes 3-2

By Mark McGee, Nashville City Paper Sports Correspondent

For the first time this season neither first baseman Prince Fielder nor second baseman Rickie Weeks was on the field for the Nashville Sounds.

Both Weeks and Fielder were in Tropicana Field wearing the uniforms of the Milwaukee Brewers as they took on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Their bats were sorely missed Monday night as Sounds batters struck out 11 times and stranded six runners in a 3-2 loss to the Albuquerque Isotopes at Greer Stadium.

?We had chances,? said Nashville Manager Frank Kremblas. ?We had a chance to get runs in by making an out. In a low-scoring game you have to make sure you get that done by putting the ball in play.?

A dropped fly ball in deep center field by Nashville?s Dave Krynzel in the top of the fifth allowed two runs to score.

?He did a good job getting back, but unfortunately for us it fell out of his glove,? Kremblas said. ?It looked like it might have sunk at the end a little bit with a weird spin on it.?

Weeks joined the Brewers Friday. Fielder got the call Sunday. While Kremblas knew the top two prospects in the farm system could be called up at any time he never gave it much thought.

?I planned to just deal with it when it happened,? Kremblas said.

Milwaukee?s trading of infielder Junior Spivey to the Washington Nationals for pitcher Tomo Ohka opened the door for Weeks. And Weeks, the No. 1 prospect in the Brewers? farm system, is not expected to be back in a Nashville uniform.

Fielder, the No. 2 prospect in the system, faces a different situation. He is on the Major League roster to serve as a designated hitter while the Brewers play road games this week against American League foes Tampa Bay and Toronto. Fielder, who went 0-for-4 in his Major League debut Monday night, is expected to be back with the Sounds.

Kremblas will wait and see.

?There was always talk about Spivey being traded, but it was always talk,? Kremblas said. ?You never knew if it was going to happen. But I knew if they did trade Spivey that Weeks would get called up.?

Kremblas thinks the time with the Brewers will benefit Fielder. He grew up around Major League ballparks and Major League players thanks to his father, Cecil, a star for both Detroit and Toronto.

?This is not going to faze Prince that much,? Kremblas said. ?He?ll be excited about it. He needs to be excited.?

As a designated hitter, Fielder can spend extra time before games working on his defensive skills.

?He?ll get some at bats, and he won?t have to worry about playing defense,? Kremblas said. ?He can get a lot of extra work on ground balls before the game, but when the game starts all he has to worry about is swinging the bat.?

Weeks left the Sounds with 48 runs batted in and 12 home runs. Fielder led the team in home runs with 15 and had 47 RBIs.

?Obviously it?s a big loss,? Kremblas said. ?But this gives other guys on the team the chance to show what they can do. It may be more fun for me as a manager because I will have to hit-and-run a little more and start runners a little more.?

The series with Albuquerque continues tonight at 7 with Sounds newcomer Gary Glover making his first Triple-A start of the season after being optioned by the Brewers. Left-hander Les Walrond (3-4, 4.50 earned run average) will start for Albuquerque.

Fielder off to join Brewers, for now

Will play DH this week, likely return to Sounds

By MAURICE PATTON

Tennessean Staff Writer

Prince Fielder has been called up by the Brewers, but he's not likely to see Milwaukee any time soon.

The Nashville Sounds first baseman, who has hit three home runs in his last three games en route to a team-leading 15, joined the Brewers in Tampa Bay yesterday to handle designated hitter duties for Milwaukee's three-game interleague series there.

He's expected to do likewise in a three-game set at Toronto over the weekend, then return to the Sounds by the first of next week.

Fielder went 0-for-4 last night in Milwaukee's 5-3 loss to Tampa Bay.

"Any time they want to call me up is good for me," Fielder said. "They probably wanted me to get my feet wet a little bit."

"We knew he was going to go up for the DH series," Sounds Manager Frank Kremblas said. "It's nice to see him get up there, get some work against the big boys and see what he can do."

Fielder, 21, probably couldn't have picked a better time for his first major league call-up.

With his two-homer day in Sunday's 7-1 win at Iowa, the Brewers' first-round pick (seventh overall) in the 2002 draft has hit 12 home runs in his last 19 games.

"He hit those two home runs (Sunday) and he was already coming," Brewers director of player development Reid Nichols said. "He's made everybody look smart."

Fielder is hitting .253 with 47 RBIs.

He leaves the Sounds ranked fourth in the Pacific Coast League in homers and seventh in RBIs.

"He's swinging the bat pretty well right now," Kremblas said.

Fielder's call-up came just three days after Rickie Weeks joined the big club in Philadelphia late Friday night.

The organization's top three prospects ? Weeks, Fielder and shortstop J.J. Hardy ? are on the Milwaukee roster.

Although the plan is for Fielder to come back, Kremblas is hopeful that's not the case.

"If he does well, maybe they'll keep him," Kremblas said. "I don't want him to come back. I want him to do well. I'm sure no one in the league believes me, but I don't want him to come back. Same with Rickie. I want those guys to do well."

"It's extremely possible that it's just temporary, but you never know," Nichols said. "There are guys that have been in this role and all of a sudden they're in the big leagues for good."

To make room for Fielder, catcher Julio Mosquera has already cleared waivers and will rejoin the Sounds today.

Krynzel's error leads to loss

Sounds' dropped ball lets go-ahead run score

By JOHN GLENNON

Tennessean Staff Writer

Playing their first full game of the season without top prospects Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder, the Nashville Sounds dropped the ball ? literally.

Sounds center fielder Dave Krynzel failed to hold onto a sharply hit line drive in the top of the fifth inning, allowing two unearned runs to score in Albuquerque's 3-2 win over Nashville last night.

The Sounds had cleaned up their act defensively of late, putting together three straight errorless games to tie a season high. But Krynzel's error was the team's Pacific Coast League-leading 80th of the season.

Nashville will need to be sharper in the future, especially without Weeks and Fielder, who were called up by Milwaukee Friday and yesterday, respectively.

The teams were tied 1-1 heading into the fifth inning, as the Sounds' Corey Hart had smacked an RBI double to match a solo home run by Albuquerque's Chris Aguila. But the Isotopes' Ryan Jorgensen and Mark Little both scored when Krynzel failed to squeeze Aguila's two-out liner.

"It look like it sunk toward the end and maybe had a little weird spin on it,'' Sounds Manager Frank Kremblas said. "(Krynzel) did a good job getting back on it. But, unfortunately for us, it dropped out of his glove.''

The Sounds trimmed Albuquerque's lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth when first baseman Kevin Orie's sacrifice fly scored Trent Durrington. But Nashville left two runners on in the inning and six overall in front of a crowd of 3,604 at Greer Stadium.

"We had our chances,'' Kremblas said. "We could have got some of those runs in. And in a low-scoring game like that, we need to make sure we get those in, even if it's not with a hit.''

Albuquerque got a strong performance from starting pitcher Nate Bump, who was making his first Triple A appearance of the season. Bump (1-0) allowed four hits and one run in five innings.

Sounds starter Justin Lehr (5-6) surrendered just two hits and one earned run in six innings.

Durrington delivers: When Durrington singled in the first inning, he stretched his hitting streak to six games, tying his longest of the season. He later stole his team-best 16th base of the season.

Switching spots: Gary Glover, reassigned from Milwaukee last week, will start in his first appearance with Nashville tonight. Glover replaces Jose Capellan, the opening-day starter, who made his first relief appearance last night, pitching two scoreless innings.

Familiar face: The Brewers signed veteran infielder Warren Morris to a minor-league contract and assigned him to the Sounds. The 31 year-old opened the season in the Cleveland organization but was slowed by a broken finger and was released last week after posting just two hits in 22 at-bats.

Morris played for the Sounds in 2001, when he hit .305 with five home runs and 40 RBIs.

Fans at Greer should see Wood pitch this weekend

By MAURICE PATTON

Tennessean Staff Writer

Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood should continue his rehabilitation from a strained right shoulder this weekend at Greer Stadium.

Wood, who has been on the disabled list since May 3, passed his first rehabilitation test last night for Triple-A Iowa.

In three innings against New Orleans, he allowed three hits, a run and struck out three on 46 pitches ? and hit his first professional triple.

"Everything felt all right," said Wood. "I don't know what the velocity was, but I'm not concerned about gun ratings. What I'm concerned about is repeating my delivery each time, and I think I did that all right."

If Wood is kept on a five-day rotation, his next start would be Saturday ? the second game of the I-Cubs' four-game series against the Sounds. It's more likely, however, that he will be held until Sunday to give him an extra day of recovery. He hopes to have a pitch count of 75.

Wood made his last start for the Cubs April 30. In five starts this season, he's 1-1 with a 6.15 ERA.

He missed two months last year with a triceps injury and struggled to an 8-9 record with a 3.72 ERA.

The 1998 National League Rookie of the Year also underwent reconstructive elbow surgery in April 1999 to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm.

Final: West Tenn (Cubs) 4, Huntsville 2

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Casey McGehee and Rich Lewis homered to back the pitching of Carmen Pignatiello in West Tenn?s 4-2 win over Huntsville Monday night in the opening game of a three-game series at Joe Davis Stadium. The Diamond Jaxx improved to 41-21 and moved into sole possession of first place in the North Division, one game ahead of Carolina, which fell to Jacksonville 7-1. The Stars saw their three-game win streak snapped and dropped to 26-38 on the season and 15-16 at home.

Felix Pie scored the first run of the night in the first inning when he singled to right field on the game?s first pitch, advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Greenberg on the second pitch of the game, moved to third on a Matt Murton ground out on the third pitch and scored on a Glenn Woolard wild pitch with Buck Coats at the plate.

Murton singled with two outs in the third and McGehee followed with a home run to left field, his fourth of the year, to put the visitors on top 3-0. Rich Lewis, the 2004 Southern League MVP, led off the fourth inning with a home run, his first since rejoining the Jaxx, to increase the lead to 4-0. It marked the second time Woolard had yielded a pair of long balls in a game, the other coming in a 7-2 win over Tennessee on May 1 at ?the Joe.?

Pignatiello retired the first 11 hitters he faced before Nelson Cruz singled in the fourth. The Stars loaded the bases in the sixth and did not score and knocked Pignatiello out in the seventh after loading the bases with one out. Pinch-hitter John Vanden Berg greeted David Aardsma with a single to left to drive in Ben Van Iderstine with the home team?s first run but the inning was short-circuited when Tony Gywnn, Jr. flied out to Murton in left and he threw out Enrique Cruz at the plate trying to score.

Aardsma yielded a leadoff double in the eighth to Vinny Rottino but the Stars were unable to advance him and entered the ninth down by three. Talley Haines took over on the hill for the Jaxx in the ninth and yielded a two-out, run-scoring single to Gwynn and then fanned Rottino with two runners on to end the game to earn his 12th save.

The series continues Tuesday night with left-hander Ryan Costello pitching for the Stars against West Tenn southpaw Renyel Pinto. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:50 p.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and via the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

POWER COME BACK TO WIN 4TH IN A ROW

Power rallies to win 10-8

By Jim Workman

For The Charleston Gazette

Three might be a charm, but winning four in a row sounds better.

The West Virginia Power defeated Lakewood 10-8 in a South Atlantic League contest at Appalachian Power Park on Monday night before 3,264 fans.

The Power has won four games in a row, its longest win streak of the season.

?It?s great,? said Power manager Ramon Aviles. ?The kids are playing with a lot of confidence right now. Even when we?re behind, we believe that we can come back. We?re taking advantage of the mistakes the opposition makes, and we have guys coming through big in the clutch with hits.?

The victory was accomplished in come-from-behind fashion with Hernan Iribarren swatting an RBI triple down the right-field line to score Alcides Escobar in the eighth to break an 8-8 tie.

The Power knotted it at 8 in the bottom of the seventh, thanks to a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to center by Josh Brady and an error by Blueclaws second baseman Brad Harman that allowed Will Lewis to score.

That set up Iribarren?s eighth-inning heroics. Lewis added an insurance run with a RBI single.

The BlueClaws started fast, clubbing two home runs in the top of the first inning. Sam Orr smashed a two-run shot over the right-field fence, and Doug Gredvig followed with a solo blast that sailed over the left-field wall to give Lakewood an early 3-0 advantage.

The Power scored its first run when Lakewood catcher Jason Jaramillo allowed a passed ball and picked it up and threw it into center field, scoring Lewis to cut the BlueClaws? lead to 3-1. Mike Dzurilla gave Lakewood a 4-1 advantage with a RBI single in the second, scoring Sean Gamble.

Power first baseman Grant Richardson cut into the lead, making it 4-3 with a monster home run that flew over the ad signs on the left side of the scoreboard in left-center field.

In the third, Jesus Merchan and Greg Golson hit back-to-back RBI doubles ? both into the leftfield corner ? and Gamble singled home Golson to raise the BlueClaws? lead to 7-3.

The Power got three runs back in the bottom of the fifth. Brady hit a scorcher to right-center field that bounced in and out of the glove of center fielder Golson as Brady reached second, and Lewis and Corporan scored to trim the BlueClaws? advantage to 7-5. Tony Festa followed with a RBI single to score Brady and make it 7-6.

Golson reached on an error in the seventh, with Chris Klemm crossing the plate on the play to boost the Lakewood margin to 8-6.

Justin Barnes (3-1) got the win in relief for the Power. Cory Dueitt (0-2) was tagged with the loss. Ben Stanczyk pitched the ninth to claim the save, his third.

POWER POINTS: Both teams celebrated ?Turn Back the Clock Night? by dressing in retro-uniforms representing ex-South Atlantic League teams such as the Macon Braves, Shelby Rebels, Fayetteville Generals, Columbus Foxes, Augusta Pirates and Greensboro Hornets. Lakewood starting pitcher Maximo Delacruz sported a Charleston Wheelers uniform. ... The BlueClaws (21-44), a Phillies affiliate, occupy last place in the South Atlantic League Northern Division. ...

The Power (24-41) will wrap up its eight-game home stand tonight against Lakewood. West Virginia will begin a tough eight-game road trip at Hagerstown on Thursday. After four games with the Suns, it?s off to nemesis Lexington for four. ... ?We?re going to play Hagerstown [and Lexington], who?s fighting for first place in our division,? said Aviles. ?We?d like to have a say in who wins it. We tried hard against Lexington, and we?ll go to Hagerstown and play hard like we always do.?
