Posted an update to let you know RHP Carlos Villanueva is your starter tonight -- and he allowed one of those evil solo HR's http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Three 1st inning errors for the Sounds. That's no way to welcome G-Love. These games are weird with no Prince or Rickie.

The Sounds with a six run bottom of the 4th. They had about five infield hits in a row (I lost track) including a bases loaded suicide squeeze. Corey Hart batting over .280 - he is 2 for 2 so far tonight with a double and two walks. Keep it going Corey!

Brevard County Box Score:

There may just be a revolt if 21-year-old Carlos Villanueva doesn't make a quantum Power 50 leap soon; RHP Brian Wolfe is unscored upon since his arrival from the Twins' scrapheap; sorry to single out a player, but Robby Deevers, statistically at least, has been the weakest player in the system this year (.373 OPS in 117 AB's before his 0-for-3 night, now with 43 K's and one BB) -- but such is the state of corner outfield depth in the system -- there is none...

Seriously, are guys that picky that they have to worry about a home run issue, if its even an issue for Carlos? I mean every time this guy pitches that the focus on him.

Tobys friggin comment about him on the P50 is about that.

What gives?

The guy throws STRIKES! You might give one up once in a while. Look at sheets for cripes sake. He gives up a ton of homers, but he GETS IT DONE! Thats all that matters.

Sometimes on this forum, I think some folks look way too much into what guys do or dont do. The guys ERA is under 2, I dont care if he gives up 1 homer per game as long as his ERA stays the same.

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

BLUECLAWS AVOID POWER SWEEP

Charleston, WV ? The West Virginia Power went into Tuesday night?s game hoping for their first sweep of the season, but the Lakewood BlueClaws spoiled the fun with a 1-0 victory at Appalachian Power Park.

The start of the game was pushed back an hour and a half due to rain. The only run of the game crossed the plate in the top of the third inning. Timi Moni reached on a walk, stole second base, made his way to third base on an errant throw from catcher Carlos Corporan and then scored on a wild pitch.

Greg Kloosterman threw a great game but J.A. Happ threw seven scoreless innings to get the win, marking the second outing in a row that Kloosterman has been matched up with a fellow left handed pitcher who threw more than six scoreless innings.

Happ (4-2) earned the victory, Jacob Barrack (3) earned the save and Kloosterman (3-9) despite only allowing a run through five and two thirds, obtained the loss. The Power fall to 24-42 with the loss and the BlueClaws improve to 22-44 with the win.

The Power are off on Wednesday, but they will finish up the first half with a four game series against the Hagerstown Suns in Hagerstown on Thursday night. RHP Josh Wahpepah (3-3, 3.53) will throw for the Power and Hagerstown?s starter has not been announced. The first pitch will be delivered at 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Renyel Pinto spun six shutout innings and Ryan Theriot homered in West Tenn?s 2-1 win over Huntsville Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game series at Joe Davis Stadium. The Diamond Jaxx improved to 42-21 and extended their lead to two games over Carolina in the North Division after the Mudcats were defeated 11-4 by Jacksonville, while the Stars slumped to 26-39. West Tenn has won all five games between the two teams, with four of the five games decided by either one or two runs.

Theriot drew a one-out walk in the first inning, moved to third base on a hit-and-run single by Matt Murton and scored on a ground ball by Brandon Sing that was fielded by shortstop Enrique Cruz, who made a throw that pulled first baseman Brandon Gemoll off the bag and allowed Sing to reach safely. Stars starter Ryan Costello worked out of further trouble by striking out Casey McGehee and retiring Matt Craig on a ground ball.

Costello did not allow another runner past first base until Casey Kopitzke and pinch-hitter Buck Coats stroked two-out, back-to-back singles in the seventh that spelled the end of his night. Brett Evert took over and struck out Felix Pie to end the inning. Costello was charged with one unearned run on five hits and struck out eight but suffered the loss to fall to 0-3.

Theriot led off the eighth against Evert and drilled a line drive long ball just over the wall, just inside the foul pole down the left field line to push the visitors lead to 2-0. It was his first home run of the season and the second allowed by Evert since joining the Stars.

Pinto scattered five singles and allowed only Kennard Bibbs in the first and Nelson Cruz in the sixth inning to reach second base. The West Tenn southpaw induced Gemoll to bounce into an inning-ending twin-killing in the sixth with runners at first and second base. Pinto improved to 3-0 after striking out six and walking two in his seventh start and first against the Stars.

Randy Wells took over and retired the first five hitters he faced before Vinny Rottino singled and scored on a Nelson Cruz double to trim the lead to 2-1. Andy Shipman was brought on to face pinch-hitter Tony Gwynn, Jr., who flied out for the final out of the inning. Talley Haines struck out the first two hitters in the ninth before Guilder Rodriguez reached second base on a dropped fly ball by Pie and took third on a wild pitch. Haines then fanned Tony Zuniga to end the game and notch his second save in as many nights and 13th of the season.

The series concludes Wednesday afternoon with left-hander Dana Eveland pitching for the Stars against West Tenn right-hander Jae-Kuk Ryu. Coverage of the game gets underway at 11:50 a.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and via the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Brevard County Site Game Summary:

Manatees management getting the hang of it -- now if they could only list the following game's starting pitcher...

ANDERSON THREE-RUN DOUBLE GUIDES MANATEES

VIERA, FL ? Drew Anderson?s three-run double in the bottom of the eighth broke open a 1-1 tie to give the Manatees the 4-1 win Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium in front of 3,523 fans celebrating the US Army?s 230th birthday.

The Manatees were getting one hit going into the eighth and although they had scored a run in the second inning they where struggling against Cardinals starter Eric Haberer. Haberer was 3-0 with a win in each of his three starts since being called up from the Swing of the Quad Cities on May 27th. The ?Tees put their early run up against Haberer on a walk, and error and two consecutive fielder?s choice plays to score Adam Heether who had worked the walk.

It wasn?t until the bottom of the eighth that the Manatees were able to get anything going against Haberer. Two straight singles by Wandel Campana and Ozzie Chavez to lead off the eighth would chase Haberer and give the ?Tees two men on with no outs. After Robby Deevers struck out Travis Ezi would get the third single of the inning and load the bases with just one out. Ezi was followed by Steve Sollmann who was called out on strikes to keep the bases loaded with two outs. On a 3-2 count Anderson would swat a deep fly to left center field that dropped between the center fielder and the left fielder and give Anderson the stand-up three-run double and put BC up 4-1.

Jeremy Lewis was brought in to save the game for Brevard and after he loaded the bases on two walks and a single would get the final two outs on called third strikes. Lewis picks up his third save of the year and bullpen mate Brian Wolfe would pitch a 1-2-3 eighth inning with three strikeouts to notch his first win of the year.

The Manatees play game two of the three game set tomorrow at Space Coast Stadium starting at 7:00 (6:00 Central).

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Sounds Post All-Around Effort In 11-3 Win

NASHVILLE ? The Nashville Sounds rapped out a season-high 17 hits in hanging an 11-3 loss on the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday evening in front of a sellout crowd at Greer Stadium.

With the win, Nashville (34-32) pulled within a half-game of first-place Memphis in the PCL American Conference Northern Division.

Every Sounds starter recorded a hit in the contest, including five multiple-hit efforts, and all but Trent Durrington drove in at least one run.

The Nashville pitching staff, anchored by starter Gary Glover's dominant first outing in a Sounds uniform, combined to post 12 strikeouts and limited the Albuquerque offense to five hits on the evening.

The Isotopes scored a pair of unearned runs stemming from three Nashville errors in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Matt Padgett drove in one of the runs in the frame with an RBI single.

Kevin Orie, who led Nashville batters with a 3-for-5, three-RBI evening, put the Sounds on the board in the bottom of the second when he belted his 12th home run of the year, a leadoff solo shot to center off Albuquerque starter Les Walrond.

Nashville matched its largest inning of the season when it plated seven in the fourth against Walrond to take a 7-2 lead. The Sounds sent 10 batters to the dish and produced seven hits, five of them infield singles. Brad Nelson tied the contest when he drove in Corey Hart with a single to second. Steve Scarborough, Glover, and Dave Krynzel each added an RBI in the frame before Hart ripped his team-leading 16th double of the year to up the Sounds? advantage to 7-2.

Isotopes leadoff hitter Mark Little smacked his 16th home run of the season to bring Albuquerque within 7-3 in the top of the eighth. The blast was a two-out solo shot off Nashville reliever Kane Davis.

The Sounds got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Nelson scored on a Scarborough sacrifice fly.

Orie struck again for Nashville in the bottom of the eighth, delivering a bases-loaded two-run single to up the lead to 10-3. Julio Mosquera added a two-out RBI double later in the frame to plate the final run of the night.

Glover (1-0) earned his first Nashville victory in his initial Triple-A outing of the season. The right-hander allowed two unearned runs and fanned eight batters over his five innings of work. Walrond (3-5) took his second loss in two starts against the Sounds this season after being tagged for seven runs on nine hits in only 3 2/3 frames.

The teams continue the series with a noon matinee on Wednesday afternoon at Greer Stadium. Right-hander Ben Hendrickson (2-5, 4.30) takes the hill for the Sounds to face Albuquerque right-hander Frank Castillo (6-2, 3.93), who pitched for Nashville in 1999.

Kennard Bibbs started tonight in CF, he is so much more convincing defensively than TGJ. One really sweet catch where Cruz in normal RF position lost the ball in the air and Bibbs covered enough ground to catch it dropping behind him. A nice straightforward running catch, no flourishes, no hot dogging - just getting the job done.

I can't speak for Mass, but my comment about Carlos' homerun was directly the result of Toby's Power 50 comment...kind of poking fun at it. When I read Mass's comment, I took it that way as well. Right after the latest Power 50 came out, many people chimed in with the "who cares if he gives up a few too many homeruns" comment, so that is what I was referencing when I said he gives up the pesky homerun. If guy strikes out 8 with no walks in 6, 1 homerun shouldn't beat him...color me very impressed with Carlos this year...here is to him continueing it in Huntsville very soon!

The Brevard box score incorrectly lists Villanueava's ERA. According to BA stats, its 1.85.

All his numbers are remarkable. Just a .172 BA against, 75 K's and just 15 BB in 58 and a third and he's only 21 which is young for that league.

Count me in the revolt if he doesn't go way up the P50 charts.
