Huntsville Press Release:

What, no Nelson Cruz?

Eveland and Stetter make SL All-Star team

Huntsville, AL- The Southern League of Professional Baseball has announced that pitchers Dana Eveland and Mitch Stetter of the Stars have been selected to play for the North Division team in the 2005 Southern League All-Star Game on July 13th at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile, AL. The all-star rosters were selected by a vote of Southern League field managers, radio broadcasters, and print media.

Eveland, 8-4 with a 2.94 ERA in 16 starts for Huntsville this season, was selected in the 16th round of the 2002 draft by Milwaukee and is in his first full season of double-A baseball. He shares the league lead in wins with Enrique Gonzalez of Tennessee and Sean Tracey of Birmingham and is also tied for tops in the league with Mike Thompson of Mobile in innings pitched with 95. The southpaw also ranks fifth in the league in earned run average.

Stetter owns a record of 1-3 with a 2.20 ERA and leads the Stars with six saves. He was selected in the 16th round of the 2003 draft and is in his first season with Huntsville after splitting the 2004 season with Single-A Beloit and High Desert in the Brewers farm system. The left-hander has been scored on in only seven of his 28 appearances and earned his first win of the year Saturday in the Stars 6-2 victory over Jacksonville.

The Southern League will announce the South division All-Star team tomorrow. Starting line-ups for both teams will be announced July 6th.

The Stars conclude their four game series with the Jacksonville Suns tonight at 7:05pm at Joe Davis Stadium.

Final: Arizona Mariners 15, Arizona Brewers 2

Brewers 0-3 in the games we know about; four more errors, ten walks, two HBP, only one extra-base hit among the seven Brewer base hits -- pretty much what you'd expect the final score to reflect...

Arizona Box Score:

Hopefully Lenny Leclercq had big games in the two missing box scores - he's 0-for-9 with seven K's and is watching 17-year-old Harold Mejia play SS; eight unearned runs, so while only 18-year-old Venezuelan Alirio Ledezma was shelled, the other four hurlers weren't exactly stellar; so many Latin products here -- is there another Iribarren or Escobar in the group?

any tv coverage of the all star game

No ESPN or ESPN2, if that's what you mean -- if you have high speed, the game is free with the link above.

Anyone else getting a blackout message for the SAL All-Star game?

Working fine, as of the bottom of the 4th, no Power players in the game yet -- I have since switched video back to the Brewers, however.

There is a Gameday link available to watch it that way, too:

I like how there manger (the North team) is 2 dumb to start the best player in single A. I wish the brewers could have a manger that was that smart i guess that one guy who wrote the article about the game was wrong by saying

" he may bring the most excitement to the game. Not only is he hitting .325 with 24 steals for the Power, he's also leading the league in triples, arguably the most exciting hit in baseball"

the way i could think this happen is cuz he was a late addition but after 5 innings and still not in.

sorry if this sounds a little hipicritical but that angers me 5 innings and still no Hurricane http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

right after i wrote this he and escobar were put in! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

Gee, I guess the Manatee offense was quelled after that second pitch of the game...

Brevard County Box Score:

Closer Brian Wolfe hadn't allowed an earned run for the Brewer organization until tonight; hopefully, Carlos Villanueva's relatively short night was due to wise pitch count management -- he faced one over the minimum in five innings; this team is screaming for somebody to post "look at me" offensive numbers...

Not Dennis Sarfate's night -- 3.1 IP, eight hits, seven ER, eight hits, five walks, one strikeout...

We won't be able to count on the undefeated H-Crew to bail out what is shaping up as a depressing day on the farm...

Brevard County Game Summary from the Hammerheads' Site:

JUPITER, FL ? Reggie Abercrombie hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Hammerheads the 2-1 win over Brevard County on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium.

Abercrombie, who came into the game in the 8th inning as a pinch hitter, chopped the first pitch he saw in the 10th up the middle to score Andy Rohleder from third, who had singled to lead off the inning.

An out later, with Rohleder on second base, Jose Campusano lofted a single down the left field line that advanced Rohleder to third and set the table for Abercrombie.

The Hammerheads were trailing 1-0 entering the ninth inning, but were able to rally to the game. Lee Mitchell walked to start the frame and was pinch-run for by Todd Brock. With Brock on second base, Juan Figueroa delivered with an single to left to tie the game.

Hammerheads starter Paul Mildren pitched eight strong innings allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven. His only mistake of the game came to leadoff hitter Travis Ezi in the first inning who homered to left.

Carlos Villanueva, the Manatees starter, also pitched well. Working on three days rest, Villanueva gave up just two hits on five strikeouts over five innings.

Carlos Martinez (3-2) earned the win in relief for the Hammerheads by tossing two scoreless innings.

Andy Pratt must have photos of Reid Nichols in compromising positions -- details in what will be a depressing Nashville game summary soon.

Is it official that in this world of "feel-good", "don't over-scrutinize the farmhands" atmosphere we try to maintain here, we can all agree to agree on Mr. Pratt?

Anyway, it was 2-2 in the 8th, now 7-2 for the soon-to-be victorious Redhawks, after a 13-game losing streak.

Final: South 7, North 5, Sally League All-Star Game

Power players on the losing end...

Hernan Iribarren 1-2 with a double but stranded a runner in scoring position with two out in his first at-bat, Alcides Escobar 0-for-2 with a K, and Robert Hinton retires both batters he faces on ground balls, stranding an inherited runner. The keystone pair turned a 4-6-3 double play and played errorless ball.

Final: Oklahoma (Rangers) 7, Nashville 2

Nashville Box Score:

Justin Lehr (a fine game) got the old fake-to-third, throw-to-first pickoff play to work for him for the third time this season; Andy Pratt was asked to retire one left-handed hitter, Adrian Gonzalez, with two out and two on in the 8th -- he walked him, then hit the next batter on an 0-2 pitch to force in the go-ahead run. Pratt then surrendered an exclamation point grand slam. Bye-bye, Andy...

Love for Corey Hart in the latest Prospect Hot Sheet at BA:

www.baseballamerica.com/t...t2005.html

Hart's .308 average at Nashville is made all the more impressive by the fact that the former Southern League MVP hit just .157 (11-for-70) in April. After hitting .306 in May, Hart has been unconscious in June, making up for the the loss of Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder by batting .416 in 25 games while scoring 26 runs.

A certain middle-infield combo is recognized as well, and keep in mind, you normally don't see rookie-level players (like Angel) on the Hot Sheet, at least none this week...
