Huntsville Press Release:

The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that Huntsville pitcher Matt Ford has been given his outright release from the organization.

Ford was 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in 17 games in relief for the Stars this season. The left-hander spent the 2004 season in Huntsville going 2-6 with a 3.94 ERA in 18 starts and three appearances in relief.

The Brewers selected Ford from the Toronto Blue Jays in the Rule 5 League Draft in December, 2002, and he pitched in 25 games for Milwaukee in 2003 going 0-3 with a 4.33 ERA.

The Huntsville roster is currently at 22 active players.

Wow. He hasn't been the same since he had surgery, but the potential he showed in Milwaukee is hard to forget.

In any case, best of luck to Matt - I'm sure he'll catch on somewhere.

I absolutely loved his mechanics, but goes to show that work ethic and workout regimen are important in today's game, as the ballclub never kept it a secret they were unhappy with his dedication

Nashville Site:

ADAMS ADDED TO BULLPEN; ERICKSON PLACED ON D.L.:

Right-hander Mike Adams joins the Nashville bullpen this evening after being optioned by the Brewers Friday night to create a roster spot for All-Star pitcher Ben Sheets. Adams, who opened the year as Milwaukee?s closer, posted an 0-1 record, one save, and a 2.70 ERA (4er/13.1ip) in 13 relief outings for the Brew Crew.

Infielder Matt Erickson, who has not played since May 10 while being hampered by nagging right knee tendinitis, was placed on Nashville?s disabled list, retroactive to Sunday, to open a roster spot for the 26-year-old hurler.

The Brewers have released 2003 34th round pick RHP Dan Grybash, who pitched at Wisconsin's Carthage College. At 24 years old, Grybash needed to excel at Brevard County, and it just wasn't happening.

Twenty-four days after going on the disabled list with an injured hand (reportedly from some sort of off-field incident / accident), third baseman Adam Heether has been activated from the Brevard County disabled list, according to the Manatees' site.

It surprises me that no one has mentioned yet either here or in the Nashville thread that Dave Krynzel was the first of the Sounds to get the call to Milwaukee.

Hi 403137. Yeah, sometimes we've glossed over moves here that are to the big league club, always discussed on the Major League Forum. Perhaps where Dave has been in Milwaukee before, as well, and this appears to be a temporary assignment, but yes, good catch. Thanks.

Nashville's Julio Mosquera Press Release:

For the time being, Trent Durrington backs up Mike Rivera, we suppose...

Sounds catcher Julio Mosquera had his contract purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday evening and is in uniform for the club for this evening's series opener against the New York Yankees.

Mosquera, who batted .204 with one home run and 12 RBIs in 25 games with Nashville, was added as an insurance poilcy for the Brewers. Starting catcher Damian Miller left Milwaukee's game on Sunday in Los Angeles after suffering a right groin strain.

To make room on their 40-man roster for Mosquera, Milwaukee designated pitcher Gary Glover for assignment. The 28-year-old right-hander had gone 3-4 with a 6.70 ERA (37er/49.2ip) in 12 appearances (nine starts) for the Brewers this season.

The loss of Mosquera leaves Nashville two players short of the 24-man active limit.

they need to do something about the AA catching situation. If Vandenberg is just minor league fodder, then they might as well promote him to AAA, where he'll likely play more. I doubt they'll promote Rottino, as they seem to view him as a legit prospect

Turns out there was a specific reason for RHP Brett Evert's assignment to Huntsville:

Stars Press Release --

RHP Alec Zumwalt was placed on the disabled list after he broke a bone in his right hand when he was hit by a pitch trying to bunt on Sunday afternoon. Zumwalt, 1-2 with a 4.14 ERA in 19 games this season, is expected to miss four to six weeks with the injury.

Zumwalt was acquired by the Brewers from the Atlanta Braves along with pitcher Jose Capellan in exchange for pitcher Dan Kolb on December 13, 2004.

The Brewers released four RHP's within the past month, according to Baseball America.

The most prominent name is that of Greg Moreira, who turned 22 years old last month. Moreira was a high-school 10th round pick in 2001 -- he started 20 games (27 appearances) in Beloit last year.

Greg Moreira Career Numbers:

The other RHP's:

Joel Needham, the 2004 32nd round pick out of UC-Davis -- he'll be 24 years old this coming August. Basically, if you're drafted as a 22-23 year old, and you're a late draft pick, you need to make an immediate impression.

Joel Needham Career Numbers:

Brandon Hundt, 23 years old, was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Washington State last spring, and made 10 relief appearances for Helena. Mike Adams took the non-drfated route to the majors, but wow, that's rare...

Miguel Garcia will turn 20 years old in a couple of weeks. Signed out of Venezuela, Garcia spent portions or all of the past three summers in Maryvale -- talk about setting up residence. He struggled in five Helena appearances last summer.

Just turned 21-year-old catcher Nestor Corredor is the choice to serve as Nashville's backup catcher, at least for a bit, in a move that reflects the least upheaval among all the catchers in the organization. Corredor was one of four catchers on the West Virginia roster.

Corredor also saw fill-in time last season at Huntsville, so he must have a maturity about him that allows him to be placed on these short-term backup assignments.

More activity, a busy time:

West Virginia's Will Lewis has been activated from the disabled list (shoulder). He's starting in CF and hitting leadoff Tuesday night.

Also, welcome to West Virginia, Tony Festa! Helena's primary third baseman last summer is apparently recovered from his hand injury, and is starting at shortstop tonight, as we await an injury update on Alcides Escobar.
