Corey Hart for Player of Month, and...

Brevard County pitcher Carlos Villanueva was named Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Month after posting a miniscule 0.71 ERA in five starts . . . Villanueva did not record a decision but limited opponents to just two runs on 14 hits in 25.1 innings pitched . . . he issued four walks and

struck out 26 . . . overall, Villanueva is 6-0 with a 1.89 ERA in 14 starts this season.

Tom Haudricourt in the Journal-Sentinel:

Farm doings: The Brewers switched left-handed relief pitchers in their system, sending Andy Pratt from Class AAA Nashville to Class AA Huntsville and promoting Mitch Stetter. Pratt was 4-4 with an 8.35 ERA in 23 appearances (eight starts) and had allowed eight earned runs in 3 1/3 innings in his last four outings.

Stetter, named earlier to the Southern League All-Star Game, was 2-3 with a 2.61 ERA and eight saves in 32 games with Huntsville. The Brewers think he has a chance to be a situational reliever in the majors at some point.

Mark McCarter, columnist for the Huntsville Times, passed along the story of how Stetter was informed of his promotion. After the Stars' game Wednesday, manager Don Money called a team meeting and asked Stetter to stand up.

Very solemnly, Money told Stetter that he had bad news about the Southern League All-Star Game; that the votes were recounted and Stetter didn't make it. After Stetter bought into it, Money said, "Nah, the real reason you're not going to the All-Star Game is you're going to Triple-A."

The Brewers also made a position switch at Nashville, moving Corey Hart from right field to left and newly acquired Nelson Cruz from left field to right. Cruz has been on fire since moving up from Huntsville, batting .435 with three home runs and six RBI in seven games.

Hart has been red-hot for more than a month - he batted .413 in June - and is riding a 15-game hitting streak. The flip-flop apparently was made because Cruz has a stronger throwing arm (eight assists in Huntsville), more suitable for right field.

Huntsville has encountered pitching problems with right-hander Dennis Sarfate going on the disabled list with a blister problem and oft-injured lefty Manny Parra being shut down with shoulder soreness. Parra, considered one of the better pitching prospects in the system, has suffered shoulder problems in the past, which makes it a cause for concern.

Don Money is el loco.

And, I am also glad that the initial report that Mitch was the throw in to the White Sox in the El Caballo trade was incorrect.

511 at the Angels complex -- wow; near-perfect four-inning outing for 19-year-old 2004 8th round pick LHP Brandon Parillo; RHP Roque Mercedes not living up to his lofty Power 50 spot, as six of eleven batters reach against him...

Final: West Virginia 4, Hagerstown (Mets) 3

All three Helena newcomers take part...

West Virginia Box Score:

Ryan Braun 2-for-4 with a double in his A-ball debut, but it's a huge two-out bases-loaded double by Nestor Corredor that's the key blow; Grant Richardson's solo HR was the eventual game-winning run; U-W Milwaukee's Ben Stanczyk strands two inherited runners in the 8th, earns the save...

West Virginia Game Log:

Hernan Iribarren picked off in the 1st, Braun caught stealing in the same inning; Steve Hammond walked his first batter of the season -- now with a 25-to-1 k/BB ratio; something warm and fuzzy about Eric Thomas pitching well after nearly three years away...

Final: Huntsville 3, Mississippi (Braves) 2

Huntsville Box Score:

As impressive as the Brevard County starters have been, LHP Dana Eveland has easily been the Brewers' Organization Pitcher of the Season thus far -- 21 years old in AA; pretty gutsy move by Don Money to bring in RHP Jerome Gamble in the 9th -- Gamble's first appearance since May 13th, Money rewarded with a 1-2-3 save...

Huntsville Game Log:

Double steal gets the Braves a run off Eveland in the 1st; like his game-winner earlier this week, Brad Nelson's home run to the opposite field...

Final: Brevard County 8, Clearwater (Phillies) 4

If I'm not mistaken, Clearwater's been the worst team record-wise in all of minor league baseball this year, so the series is going as expected, thankfully...

Brevard County Box Score:

LHP Josh Habel was tonight's "TBD" starter; every Manatee with at least one hit, which is good, since no one drew a walk; 21-year-old CF Steve Moss reminds us why he's the top position player prospect on this team, although he's only 10-for-18 in SB attempts...

Brevard County Game Log:

RHP Forrest Martin with a successful Florida State League debut; Ben Diggins back in pitcher mode as of late...

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Eveland's Excellence Continues in Stars Win

Dana Eveland worked eight strong innings and Brad Nelson hit a home run in Huntsville?s 3-2 win over Mississippi Friday night in the opener of a four-game set at Trustmark Park. The Stars bounced back from a 19-15 loss 24 hours before to improve to 9-8 in the second half but remained a game behind Carolina in the North Division after the Mudcats 3-2 win in 11 innings over West Tenn, while the Braves dipped to 8-9 in the half. The Stars won for just the second time in their last 12 meetings with Mississippi and Eveland has been the winning pitcher in both victories.

Wes Timmons led off the home first with a single, moved to second base on a single by Josh Burrus in his first double-A at-bat and advanced to third base on a fly ball out by Iker Franco for the second out of the inning. Burrus then broke for second base with Jon Schuerholz at the plate and intentionally found himself in a rundown to make the Stars decide what to do with Timmons, who had started toward the plate. First baseman Brandon Gemoll threw behind Timmons to third baseman Vinny Rottino, who threw to the plate but Timmons dived headfirst safely in ahead of the tag by catcher John Vanden Berg to make it 1-0 Braves.

Nelson led off the second inning and blasted a 2-0 offering from Braves? starter Matt Coenen over the wall in left field for his third home run in nine games with the Stars. Nelson doubled with one out in the fourth and scored when Enrique Cruz doubled to put the visitors on top 2-1. Ben Van Iderstine would single with two outs in the frame to drive in Cruz to push the Huntsville margin to 3-1.

Schuerholz doubled with one out in the fourth, only the third extra-base hit allowed by Eveland in his last eight starts, and was balked to third base. Onil Joseph flied out to shallow right for the second out of the inning before Carlos Duran hit a ground ball that was fielded by Gemoll but his throw to Eveland covering was errant and allowed Schuerholz to score to cut the visitors lead to 3-2.

Eveland worked out of trouble in the fifth by fanning Burrus and retiring Scott Thorman on a ground out with runners at first and second base and one out and in the sixth by getting Luis Hernandez to line out to Gemoll with runners at second and third base and two outs. The southpaw induced Joseph to bounce into an inning-ending double play in the eighth with runners at first and second and one out. Jerome Gamble took over in the ninth and retired the side in order, with two strikeouts, to earn his third save of the season. The right-hander had not pitched since May 13 at Montgomery due to lingering elbow problems.

Eveland yielded eight hits, struck out eight and walked only one in his longest outing of the season. Each of Eveland?s last seven wins has followed Stars losses and he has won seven consecutive decisions dating back to May 30. He has allowed only 10 earned runs over 51 2/3 innings covering his last eight starts and has not lost since May 25 at Carolina.

The series continues Saturday night with right-hander Glenn Woolard taking the mound against Braves left-hander Brian O?Connor. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:50 p.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

I love this heavyweight Corey Hart v Nelson Cruz battle.

Tonight, so far, Cruz is 3 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base and an uppercut of 1 rbi.

Hart can only counter with 2 for 5 with two runs scored courtesy of his THREE stolen base jabs.

Krynzel with a night off, Fielder 0 for 4 so far, but Helling/Adams nursing a 4 - 1 lead.

What a good team that Nashville is. Lots of heart and fire and character and attitude and mental strenth.

It's pretty sweet to have a home-grown LOOGY like that. That pretty much should mean they don't have to go around looking for Phelps-esque pitchers every offseason, though they are nice to trade away.

In progress: Helena 8, Billings (Reds) 8, bottom of the ninth in Billings

The boys rally for two to tie it in the top of the 9th, and actually wasted a chance to move ahead; my goodness, it is such a treat when there's Pioneer League audio, even if it's never from a Brewer perspective -- it's replaced the late night High Desert audio for many, I hope -- only with better results http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ; it is something to hear the Billings announcer (also the Indiana Pacers play-by-play man, by the way) simply gush on multiple occasions tonight about Darren Ford's lightning speed -- believe the hype, in other words; not too late to jump in as of 11:00 PM Central...

Nice to see Salome hitting again tonight. Not nice to see him with his 5th error of the season.

Ugh -- Angel just brought the tying run to the plate because he misfired to first base on a dropped third-strike. Make that error # 6, which of course doesn't include passed balls.

Remember when Brewers management mentioned that a Maryvale catcher was having trouble handling Ben Sheets in his rehab appearance? Hmmm...

Helena hangs on, by the way...
