Brewers come back for victory over Owlz

By IR Staff

The Helena Brewers bounced back from Friday's loss in a big way, shellacking the Orem Owlz 15-3 Saturday night.

Helena's big inning was the fourth when the Brewers slapped their hosts with 10 runs. Helena had nine hits in the inning, including two by Ned Yost, who had a two-run double to start the scoring and an RBI single to finish it.

The Brewers (22-9) cruised from there, getting strong work from three pitchers who did not give up an earned run.

Josh Louis got his first professional win with three innings of work out of the bullpen.

Orem (16-16) scored three unearned runs off Helena starter Tyler Morrison in the bottom of the second, thanks in part to two Helena errors, a wild pitch and a passed ball.

Helena got on the board when Ryan Crew opened the third with a double and scored on a single by Angel Salome.

The Brewers polished off the blowout win with three runs in the eighth, two on a home run to right field by Stephen Chapman, and one in the ninth.

Salome extended his hitting streak to 17 games while Brendan Katin pushed his to 18 in the win. Salome leads the Pioneer League with a .427 average followed by Katin at .424.

The Brewers finish the four-game series in Orem today at 4:05 p.m. (3:05 Central) before returning to Helena for a six-game homestand, the final five of which will conclude the first half of the league season.

After Saturday's games, the Brewers have a three game lead over second place Billings in the standings.

Well tried posting my report last night, but ezboard didn't let me.

Fielder's AB's were solid. His HR was a no doubter way back in right field. His single should have been a double, but he hit too hard off the wall in right. He K'd on two good breaking balls, but overall looked good at the plate. Prince looked good many 1st base. Handled all the throws and a successful run down.

Krynzel scorched a double to the gap in Right-Center, and scorched another ball right at the right fielder. Looked good at the plate for the most part. He K'd on high heat.

Can't say Dave looked good in the field late in the game. He broke back on two balls allowing the to drop in front of him. He also got turned around going back on a liner. It was a tough play, but a good CF should have had it.

Hart once again had trouble with off speed stuff from righties. His only hit shouldn't have been, the LF took two steps back before he realized it wasn't hit very hard. He did have a nice AB against Nance to draw a walk if memory serves. Hart DH'd.

Cruz hasn't done much good or bad. He has taken some walks but really hasn't scorched the ball yet. He looks a tad off balance at the plate. He reminds me of a poor man's Vlad.

Steve S. had hit the ball hard to all fields and done a nice job at shortstop.

Housman got lit up like a pinball machine. All runs very earned. The game was still the Sounds to win until Jeff got into with the Homeplate umpire. After that he grooved a couple and the Royals went up 9-5.

Mosquera his a blast to deep Left to make it 9-6. Then I was disappointed to see Steve. S pitch the bottom of 8. Only down three with Hart-Fielder-Cruz due up in the 9th. I know there are some injuries to the bullpen, but I didn't think waving the white flag was in order.

Steve S. throw BP, and that was the game.
