Wow, Braun continues to rake at WV! What are the chances of him getting a promotion before the end of the season? Brevard Cty or Huntsville??

Also, Salome seems to be in a bit of a rut right now. Let's hope he doesn't follow in the footsteps of Cap'n Lou.

I know it hasn't been long, but 0 errors so far for Salome in his stint at WV.

I know! He even prompted me to take my Salome D watch out of my sig...but now I'm thinking about putting out a Salome O watch! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

As long as he keeps playing errorless D and keeps throwing out baserunners I'm fine. We know the stick is in there someplace just waiting to come out.

he may not have been scored one, but Angel definitely had a past ball in that game...It was a ball he should have caught that squirted away...actually the Hoppers scored a run...Angel also looked a bit lost at the plate...he was hacking at low pitches the whole game...

Praise:

Ryan Braun is the best non-MLB hitter i've ever seen...I'd say he's at least as good of a natural hitter as Mark Teixiera was when i saw him at Georgia Tech...Braun is a fantastic hitter...

Hernan Iribarren hits the ball very hard and runs well...He was safe when they picked him off at third, but the umpire called him out anyway...herna is also very slick with the glove..

The same goes for Alcides...i know the plate discipline sucks, but he hits it very hard, and he's incredibly skinny...if he caould gain 20 pounds before his 21st birthday with the natural ability he has, he could have a decent career...his defense was very smooth and natural

Josh Murray has a good glove at 3rd...but the two throwing errors shed some light on his throwing...erratic at best...

Eric Thomas: I didn't get to see him throw, but i did talk to him for about 5 minutes today(he was in the stands)...It's interesting to note:

1. they've got him limited to 40 pitches an outing right now so that he can build up strength to be a full time starter again next year..

2. He is extremely excited to be playing again

3. The brewers doctors made him wait 6 months to have the TJ surgery...he counted it as wasted time..

He said he's feeling good now, and finally ready to start his career

Mark Rogers...spoke with him for about a minute and asked about his blister problem..he showed it mo me..at this point, it just looks like a callus the size of his knuckle...he said it was pretty much better and that he would be ready to go for his next start (they skipped him this week)

Charlie Fermaint..Is a very good hitter and a quick runner...he looked pretty good in CF...at least alot better than Hasan and Katin looked in the corners...I'd say Charlie will climb the ladder pretty fast...that said, his homer today was not a bomb...

As for the pitching side of things, Justin Barnes and Derek Miller were both impressive...and josh wahpepah was not..though when i told him i thought he was having a good season he said "yea, thanks, except for the other night" and kinda shook his head...

Man...I wish all of you guys could get to see this team play...they are just loaded with talent..They will be spread between AA. A+, and low A next year, but man, that's a heckuva group for the moment in WV

Thanks for the report! It's awesome to have that first hand insight!

The same goes for Alcides...i know the plate discipline sucks, but he hits it very hard, and he's incredibly skinny...if he caould gain 20 pounds before his 21st birthday with the natural ability he has, he could have a decent career...his defense was very smooth and natural

Do you have any ideas as to why he has so many errors? I only ask because you said his defense is smooth and natural...

Final: West Virginia 5, Greensboro (Marlins) 3

Just a reminder, for those of you who didn't read the coaching thread on this forum, read the latest on Pitching Coach John Curtis' very unfortunate batting practice brain injury -- our best to John...

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

Power win three in a row

Greensboro, NC ? The West Virginia Power went into Tuesday afternoon?s game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers with hopes of winning their third straight game. Ryan Braun hit a pair of RBI doubles and the Power went on to beat Greensboro 5-3.

The Power scored twice in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Grant Richardson knocked in the first run with a sacrifice fly and Braun hit his first of two RBI doubles to give the Power a 2-0 lead. Greensboro tied the game in the fourth inning when Andy Jenkins knocked in a run with a sac fly and Steve Gendron scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

Charlie Fermaint hit a solo shot in the top of the fifth inning, his third with the Power to give them a 3-2 lead, but Greensboro tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Jai Miller hit a solo home run. Braun struck again in the top of the eighth inning with two outs, hitting his second RBI double of the game to give the Power a 4-3 lead. The Power added a run in the ninth inning on Fermaint?s RBI single. The game ended when Kevin Roberts struck out J.T. Restko with the tying run on second base.

Richardson went 1 for 3 in the game, marking the 28th straight game that he has reached base safely.

Roberts (1-1) earned the victory, and Jeff Gogal (3-5) obtained the loss. The Power are 24-20 in the second half after the win and the Grasshoppers move to 18-26 with the loss.

The Power are off on Wednesday, and they will begin a four game series with Lexington on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power will throw RHP Eric Thomas (0-0, 1.72) and Lexington has not announced their starter. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

i don't really know...field conditions??? youth???

I mean, billy hall looks pretty smooth at times as well..

True. At least it's good to know he has the ability anyways. If you said he looked like a butcher I'd be concerned more. But like you said, Bill Hall looks smooth at times also.

I was thinking about this... and i wonder if some of the Power's infield throwing problems have anything to do with grant richardson???

I'm not trying to blame grant, but if he was sexson-esque, perhaps he could prevent some errors...

for example, Josh Murray's first throwing error wasn't too far off the bag, but richardson kind alost hi balance and had to pull off to make the play...no doubt, it was a bad throw by murray...but a better defenseive 1b might have made the play (for the record, murray's second error was knoblauch-esque)

this is no knock on Grant, as i think he's a pretty good prospect...but it makes me wonder..

minor league field conditions are usually very poor. In Tucson, it was a joke when Brandon Webb (extreme GB pitcher) was there. Several times a game there were bad hops. This led to both increased errors and increased hit totals. The result is good infielders made 30+ errors and Webb had a high ERA

You know it is kind of difficult to have a 6 game lead in the standings after only 9 games, but Helena has managed to do it......

Only Huntsville out of the playoff hunt with 3+ weeks left in the regular season.....Brevard in 1st place ostensibly with Vero Beach's 1st half win.....

Final: Mobile (Padres) 14, Huntsville 3, 7 1/2 innings, rain

They say the rain stopped it, but it was more likely the mercy rule...

Huntsville Box Score:

Dennis Sarfate rocked; this team has officially reached the level of fan indifference, hard to do with the diehards here...

Hi, I'm Steve Moss. You might know me from my 1:3 BB:K ratio at A+ Brevard County and my outstanding defense in center field. Suck on that Fermaint! 1:13, HAH!

The beauty with having so many prospects on fire - even after being promoted is that we can do a big cull at AA next year. A few guys can go up. A few guys can stay. But the majority should be replaced with the A+ and A guys that are on fire.

I say this without looking at the roster man for man, but it seems a lot of guys there on the cusp of prospect or non-prospect end up being non prospect.

Next year we could have a system stacked near the top again. I am thinking pitching prospects at AAA and position prospects at AA.
