What were we saying about those low-scoring Florida State League games? They're great!

Steve Moss on base three times, back up to .280, but his OPS was just .740 coming in...

Yeah, it would be a bit suprising if he leapfroged Heether. But what other explanation is there?

It'd be interesting to see how he fares at Huntsville. Lord knows they need a pick-me-up. It's just funny there hasn't been any word either way.

Final: Kannapolis (White Sox) 8, West Virginia 7, 11 innings

Power loses on a walk-off wild pitch (on a strikeout, yet!); why were they in extra innings to begin with? Alcides Escobar commits his 41st error on what should have been the game's last play in the 9th. About that playoff push -- losing five in a row wasn't the way to go about it -- here's to 2006....

West Virginia Box Score:

Brendan Katin and Agustin Septimo on base four times apiece; Angel Salome a home run (and a passed ball); Dave Johnson's bullpen stint shouldn't go unnoticed...

West Virginia Game Log:

Escobar and Hernan Iribarren couldn't cash in a man on second in the 10th...

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

Power lose on a wild pitch

Kannapolis, NC ? The West Virginia Power and Kannapolis Intimidators were tied at 7-7 going into the bottom of the eleventh inning of Saturday night?s game at FieldCrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Robert Hinton struck out the final batter of the eleventh inning with runners on second and third base, but the pitch was too hot to handle, as it got past catcher Angel Salome, allowing David Cook to score from third and the Intimidators won 8-7.

The Intimidators scored four runs in the first inning. Cook hit a three-run homer and Donny Lucy knocked in the final run of the inning on an RBI single. The Power chipped away at the lead scoring on a sacrifice fly from Carlos Corporan in the second, and an RBI single from Brendan Katin in the third. The Power tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth inning. Agustin Septimo knocked in the first run on an RBI triple and Septimo scored later in the inning on Alcides Escobar?s groundball.

The Intimidators regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run homer from Sean Smith. The Power took their only lead of the game in the top of the sixth inning on a three-run home run from Salome, his third with the Power. The Power held a 7-6 lead until the bottom of the ninth inning, when Lucy hit a groundball to Escobar with two outs and Bernie Gonzalez on third base. Escobar bobbled the ball, allowing Lucy to reach first and Gonzalez to score and tie the game at 7-7. Cook scored the winning run in the bottom of the eleventh inning on a wild pitch with two outs.

Matt Zaleski (4-4) earned the victory, and Ben Stanczyk (5-3) obtained the loss. The Power are 26-26 in the second half after the loss and the Intimidators move to 29-20 with the win.

The Power will continue the series with the Intimidators in Kannapolis on Sunday night. The Power will throw LHP Greg Kloosterman (4-17, 5.27) and Kannapolis will counter with RHP Adam Russell (7-6, 3.81). The first pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM (6:05 Central).

Huntsville Box Score:

In a Southern League lineup, having your first six hitters all over .275 is pretty impressive, yet the Stars aren't nearly as productive as they need to be; is Carlos Villanueva basically auditioning for an off-season 40-man roster spot?

Final: Nashville 4, Oklahoma (Rangers) 0

Nashville Site Game Summary:

NASHVILLE ? Starting pitcher Gary Glover combined with a pair of relievers to post a four-hitter and lead the Nashville Sounds to a 4-0 victory over the Oklahoma RedHawks on Saturday evening in front of a season-high crowd of 12,644 fans at Greer Stadium.

With its third shutout victory of the year, Nashville (70-58) snapped a three-game skid and increased its lead in the PCL American Conference Northern Division to six games over second-place Omaha, which lost against New Orleans.

The Sounds ? who reached the 70-win plateau for the 18th time in franchise history ? have won 15 of their last 16 series openers and improved to 9-4 on the season against the RedHawks, who currently lead the PCL American South Division and could serve as Nashville?s first-round playoff opponent.

Left fielder Ryan Knox (2-for-3) gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when he plated Warren Morris with a two-out RBI double to left-center off Oklahoma starter R.A. Dickey.

Rehabbing third baseman Jeff Cirillo doubled the Nashville advantage in the fifth when his groundout scored Trent Durrington from third base.

Knox registered his second RBI of the night in the sixth, driving in Tony Zuniga with a two-out RBI single to left against Dickey, and Nashville improved its lead to 4-0 in the seventh when Dave Kryznel scooted home on a Dickey wild pitch.

Krynzel led Nashville batters with a 3-for-3 evening, extending his hitting streak to an active team-best five games. The outfielder is batting a solid .352 (25-for-71) over his last 19 contests.

Glover (6-2) earned his third consecutive victory by tossing seven scoreless frames, allowing only four hits while striking out five batters. Dickey (7-6), a Nashville native, drew the loss in front of his hometown crowd, after surrendering four runs on 10 hits over his 6 2/3-inning, 126-pitch effort.

The teams continue their series with a 6 p.m. meeting on Sunday evening at Greer. Right-hander Mike Meyers (6-4, 4.58) mans the bump for the Sounds and will be opposed by RedHawks southpaw Derek Lee (4-2, 4.91), a former Brewers farmhand.

Nashville Box Score:

David Krynzel enjoying that # 2 spot as of late; Jeff Cirillo hit by a pitch -- that's how he ended up on a rehab stint to begin with...

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Bass Beats Hometown Team

Matt Morgan doubled in three runs to back the solid pitching of Adam Bass in Tennessee?s 9-4 win over Hunstville Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game set at Smokies Park. The Smokies improved to 24-30 in the second half, while the Stars dropped to 22-32 in the second half and fell for a seventh time in nine games on the current road trip. The Stars have lost 12 of their last 15 games and dropped to 25-39 away from home, where they will return on Monday night.

Jamie D?Antona and Jerry Gil worked one-out walks against Carlos Villanueva, making his double-A debut, and both scored when Morgan followed with a double to center field. Tony Gwynn, Jr. moved to his left to try to cut the ball off but could not, as it rolled past him all the way to the wall, allowing both runners to cross the plate. Villanueva issued back-to-back one-out walks in the fourth but struck out Jon Zeringue and Smokies? pitcher Adam Bass to end the frame.

Villanueva would not find his way out of trouble in the fifth after Chris Carter belted a two-run home run, his fifth with Tennessee, on to the grassy berm area in right field to push the home team?s lead to 4-1. Villanueva was knocked out of the game when D?Antona followed with a double and was replaced by Gerrit Simpson, who had tossed 10 scoreless innings in five outings since joining the Stars. Pinch-hitter Adam Haley bounced his first pitch into right field for a base hit to score D?Antona and then came around to score when Morgan doubled down the right field line on the next Simpson offering to make it 6-1. Zeringue then capped the rally with a single to score Morgan.

Bass ran into difficulty in the sixth inning and gave up a sacrifice fly to Enrique Cruz, his first of the year, and a run-scoring single to Brandon Gemoll to cut the lead to 7-3. The right-hander earned his fifth win of the year after going six innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits and striking out seven.

Kennard Bibbs walked with two outs and moved to third base on a single by Vinny Rottino with two outs in the seventh that chased Pete Sikaras from the game. Bill White, a left-handed hurler, was brought on to face lefty-swinging Brad Nelson, who doubled to left field on a 1-0 pitch to chase home Bibbs to cut the lead to 7-4. However, Rottino was thrown out at the plate for the final out of the frame and the Stars could not muster any offense over the next two innings against White and Casey Daigle. Dan Uggla singled home two runs in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 9-4 and push his league-leading runs batted in total to 84.

The series and road trip conclude Sunday afternoon with right-hander Glenn Woolard taking the hill for the Stars against Smokies? left-hander Clint Goocher. Coverage gets underway at 3:45 p.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.
