We rallied for Rogers to have a good start last time out, and he responded with one of his better outings of the year, even if he did walk more batters than we would like to see.

So I offer my support for Rogers again today. Here's to another positive outing as the 2005 season nears the end.

WV Power game for tonight has been postponed due to rain. There will be a double header tomorrow night starting at 6:05 ET. Which probably won't happen because theres like a 80% chance of rain due to the hurricane. We all have to send our good pitch vibes to Rogers for tomorrows game 1. Kevin Roberts will be pitching game 2.

Everyone pray for no rain, because I have tickets to Tues game and I want to see Rogers pitch one more time!!

Inman is pitching for the H-Brewers tonight, so tune in...

Brevard County in extra innings and it looks like Nashville and Huntsville have also been rained out.

EDIT: Steve Moss with a solo shot in the top of the 10th to win it for the Manatees.

I think if we just swap our Rogers expectations with Inman, we will be much more relaxed. Through 4 2/3rds tonight Inman has 6 ks and no walks and no runs and 2 hits and his era is currently 1.65.

The numbers are good. So someone help me out please. Can this high school kid throw over 90. That is all I ask. If he is a high schooler who puts up good numbers and has a wee bit of stuff and has a big A for attitude / confidence, then I will be happy.

I think I will stick to my belief that you do not draft high school pitchers high. But let us make Inman the exception to the rule.

Final: Brevard County 3, Vero Beach (Dodgers) 2, ten innings

So the boys in Florida avoid the hurricane-related postponements...

Game Summary from the Dodgers' Site:

Steve Moss led off the 10th Inning with a home run to help Brevard County hand Vero Beach a 3-2 loss Monday night at Holman Stadium. Blake DeWitt, a 2004 First Round Draft Pick for LA, went 3-5 with a homer in his Holman Stadium debut. The series continues Tuesday night at 7:00 PM (6:00 PM Central) with FREE TICKETS available at Vero Beach-area Subway locations.

Brevard took a lead in the second inning when Ozzie Chavez lifted a two-run homer to center off starter Danny Muegge. Those were the only runs Muegge allowed in eight innings - his longest appearance of the season. He allowed only a bunt single after the fifth inning.

DeWitt's home run came in the third inning and accounted for the Dodgers first run. Vero tied the score at two in the fifth. Jamie Hoffman reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two outs later Matt Kemp singled him home. However, Vero Beach managed just three singles the rest of the way off Brevard's bullpen. It was the 11th loss in the last 14 games for the Dodgers.

Brevard County Box Score:

Palm Beach loses to Daytona -- Manatees' playoff hopes still alive; gold star to the bullpen troops; Steve Moss and Drew Anderson three hits apiece -- look for those boys in Huntsville next year...

Brevard County Game Log:

Lou Palmisano guns down a huge baserunner in the 6th -- I guess from all accounts, he's had a fine year behind the plate and handling the B.C. staff...

He was 86 at some all star game after his junoir year and most scouts backed off. However, the Brewers stayed with him and his velocity was up to 92 range so he fell to us in the second round is the story I remember.

edit:The Brewers and Braves were among the few teams that didn't shy away from Tunstall High righthander Will Inman after he sat in the mid-80s at Virginia's Commonwealth Games last summer. But the state's career strikeouts leader bumped his velocity up to the low-90s as a senior and Milwaukee nabbed him in the third round. He'll now have to decide between pro ball and a college commitment to Auburn.

Straight from the draft thread.

Final, completion of suspended game from back on August 9th: Arizona Brewers 7, Arizona Royals 4

No linescore or game log, but otherwise box score intact; looks like you'll want to disregard YTD numbers in the box score, they seem to reflect totals from and / or through August 9th...

Arizona Box Score:

They got a few innings in back on earlier this month, which explains a name like Tony Festa (now with Brevard County) in the box score...

Reprinted from a post earlier this week:

Now look, if we back out the single worst inning from any pitcher's performance, that pitcher will benefit. But here's what makes the incredible Will Inman even more impressive.

July 20th, Ogden, Utah

Inman has retired the Raptors 1-2-3 in both the 1st and 2nd innings. Then, in the 3rd, beyond any logical explanation, this happens:

Adam Godwin singles on a ground ball to second baseman Kenneth Holmberg.

Rick Taloa homers (2) on a fly ball to center field. Adam Godwin scores.

James McDonald pops out to third baseman Michael Bell in foul territory.

Juan Rivera grounds out, shortstop Ryan Crew to first baseman Ned Yost IV.

Justin Crist homers (1) on a fly ball to right center field.

David Sutherland singles on a line drive to center fielder Charlie Fermaint.

Russell Mitchell homers (9) on a fly ball to left field. David Sutherland scores.

Juan Apodaca homers (8 ) on a fly ball to right field.

B. J. Richmond singles on a line drive to center fielder Charlie Fermaint.

Pitcher Change: Dane Renkert replaces William Inman.

Adam Godwin singles on a line drive to left fielder Darren Ford. B. J. Richmond to 2nd.

Rick Taloa strikes out swinging.

One hellacious inning (actually 2/3 of an inning), seven hits, four of them home runs, six earned runs.

Now, this is where it gets good --

If you take that bottom of the 3rd out of the equation, if you just remove those ten minutes from Will Inman's life, here are his rookie numbers:

5-0, 12 G, 4 Games Started, 38.1 IP, 15 H, 1 HR, 3 R, 2 ER, 10 BB, 49 K, 0.47 ERA, 0.65 WHIP

There, I just made my favorite post of 2005! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

I don't know what happened in Ogden that night, some type of nexus of the universe convergence or something, but yikes!

UPDATE: Monday, August 29th --

Matched up against the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year, Missoula's Greg Smith, who was rocked, Will Inman posted this line:

six IP, five hits, zero runs, zero walks, eight K's

Updating his "minus one bad inning" numbers we now get:

6-0, 13 G, 5 Games Started, 44.1 IP, 20 H, 1 HR, 3 R, 2 ER, 10 BB, 57 K, 0.41 ERA, 0.68 WHIP

Final: Helena 10, Missoula (Diamondbacks) 1

Helena Box Score:

Safe to say the top of the order did its job -- Darren Ford on base four times and adds an outfield assist, Michael Brantley on base four times, and Kenny "absolute monster season" Holmberg with four hits including a home run, and six RBI; is the six RBI a season-high for any Brewer farmhand this season? Adam Mannon and Brad Willcutt on base three times apiece, Willcutt back after a brief leg injury rehab...

Thanks for re-posting that Mass. I was thinking of that while following the game. He really, really needs to find his way onto BA's hot sheet.

Remember Jason Neighborgall? He followed Missoula's Greg Smith in the same game, pitching 1 inning, facing 7 batters, allowing 2 hits, 2 runs (both earned), 2 walks, he struck out 2 and he threw 2 wild pitches.

Brewers topple Mustangs

By KEVIN SHIVELY - IR Sports Writer

Will Inman definitely earns his keep.

The Helena starter pitched six complete shutout innings Monday night, collecting eight strikeouts and his sixth win as the Brewers beat Missoula 10-1.

"Reliable is a good word to describe Will," said Helena pitching coach Mark Littell. "He's not afraid to challenge hitters. He's got a really nice fastball but he's not afraid to use his secondary pitches."

Inman (6-0, 1.60) allowed no walks and only five hits in his time on the mound. He also retired the first three batters in three innings.

The only scare Inman had was in the third inning, when Steve Mena came home on a double from Pedro Ciriaco, but Helena centerfielder Darren Ford fired the ball in to shortstop Ryan Crew.

Crew's relay to catcher Brad Willcutt was just in time to stop Mena inches short of the plate.

"Inman set the table," said Littell. "And Marty finished him off."

Marty, as Littell calls him, is actually closer Ryan Marion.

Marrion pitched the last three innings of the game, and allowed only one hit, a solo homerun from Will Crouch in the ninth.

It was an inconsequential run, as Marrion struck out five batters, getting the three-inning save.

Helena's home runs had a different effect.

Kenny Holmberg got an early start, sending a three-run shot over the left field wall in the first inning.

Holmberg, who is batting .374, was 4-for-5 with six RBI.

Willcutt also homered to left in the third, clearing the forty foot net with his solo knock.

Michael Brantley, appearing in only his second game with the Helena Brewers, is already making waves. The leftfielder was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a ground rule double in the game.

With the series tied at one each, the Brewers and the Osprey will meet at Kindrick Legion Field again tonight.

The Brewers will give the nod to Robbie Wooley (6-5, 4.55), and Missoula will send Matt Green (3-3, 5.71) to the mound.
