I know I have seen some names that have been thrown around in other posts, but who are the six best candidates for the AZ Fall league??? I am excited to see JJ, Prince, and Corey but who else may come??? Does anyone think Manny Parra or Mike Jones will be ready??? Living here in Arizona, I know what I will be doing this fall!!! Live reports for all of you!!!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

Parra likely is having surgery or at least strenuous rehab. Jones and Saenz should be at 90% or so for instrucs, although who knows how their rehabs are coming. I'm sure the Brewers would like to send Hendrickson again to work on things. Perhaps--if healthy--a Diggins/R. Anderson sighting is possible. Mike Adams could go for more work.

Here's your AFL roster (PDF format):

www.minorleaguebaseball.c...roster.pdf

LHP Dana Eveland

RHP Chris Saenz (Taxi squad, Wed.'s and Sat's only)

LHP Mitch Stetter

1B Prince Fielder

SS J.J. Hardy

OF Corey Hart

(There could be another Brewer pitcher named, yet to be determined.)

Manager is current Nashville Hitting Coach Gary Pettis.

Notice former farmhand LHP Craig Breslow (Padres) is on the same squad.

Some big names on this Peoria Javelinas squad.

For an article discussing the other squads as well, see this link:

I thought they were trying to limit Eveland's innings? Wouldn't Ty be a better choice?

Actually, I think they are still.

LINK: Brewerfan.net Player Profile: Dana Eveland

To date, Eveland has pitched 127 innings between Huntsville (109) and Milwaukee (18). Those 18 major league innings have been accunulated over about 5 1/2 weeks in the majors. If that pace holds for the rest of the year, he'll finish with about 135-140 innings, which is just a small increase over the 133.2 he pitched last year.

Accepting that it's unwise to increase a players innings pitched by more than 20 percent, that would still allow Eveland to safely work about 20 to 25 innings in Arizona.

I thought I'd add this nice picture of J.J. Hardy on BA's homepage in regards to the AFL before it gets removed:

And with Ian Stewart on the same roster as the rest of these guys, at this point in time I would guess that Corey Hart isn't going to see as much time at 3B as originally speculated.

Didn't Adams already attend the AFL once?

I said Bennett because he missed a few weeks in the season, and because the Brewers seem to like him more than Adams. As long as they like him more, might as well give him an additional building block to work off of before his return to MLB, assuming he doesn't get recalled in the interim.

I wouldn't send Adams because he needs a confidence boost, not the opportunity to get fed to the wolves. With his AAA record thus year, I'd tell him to take the offseason off and come back prepared to make a bid at a bullpen spot in the spring.

All that said, I still say Habel over Wolfe.

Good to see that Saenz is coming along. I'm somewhat surprised to see them bothering with Stetter and Wolfe, but I guess it can't hurt. I'd have been interested to see how well Ryan Braun could do there, but i don't know if that would have been allowed or wise.

Is Hardy still a lock to go to the AFL? The other night, Powell asked him and JJ said he was tired. Then he hurt his toe the next day. I think it might be wisest just to give him the fall off if he's not at or near 100%. Obviously there isn't really an injury concern like there would be with a pitcher, but if he's not really in peak shape, what good does it do him?

assuming the Crew currently has SS as a priority position on their squad, I'm not sure who they would replace him with. Scarborough? Braun (they aren't sending any A-ballers, I think, so he'd be elligible)? Crabbe? Heether? Rottino?

Too bad they can't send Cruz to the league

Tuesday the 4th is Opening Day in the AFL.

Live audio at 3:00 PM Central Time:

www.minorleaguebaseball.c...ultimedia/

Peoria Javelinas (the Brewers' entry) host Grand Canyon. Live audio will be available about once or twice a week.

Don't get confused when viewing AFL news online -- there are two Peoria teams, the other being the Saguaros, with whom the Brewers have been affiliated in the past.

So the Brewers have turned in their cactus logo for a wild boar.

If you can't listen, you can get the live "Gameday" feature here, or check in later tonight at this link to view the results:
