Does Heether Have a Chance?

DrWood

When Braun was drafted, I thought Heether and he might get to AAA at the same time. Then, Braun cruised while Heether had an abyssmal year last year.

I never thought of Heether as anything more than a mid-level prospect, but he is raking once again, after a truly horrible start to the season (I think he was batting .132 through the first month).

He's obviously never going to sniff 3b in milwaukee, but could he make the bigs?

The way he hit at Brevard in '05, you definitely have to think there's something there. That's not an easy place to hit at all, and he went .302/.384/.446 as a 23 year old. Last year, Braun went .274/.346/.438 there as a 22 year old (granted, in his first full season).

I don't have any clue what was wrong with him last year, because he was awful, but maybe '05 was the anomaly. We'll definitely have a clearer picture of him once he gets bumped up to Nashville - which you would hope is soon.

If he does make it, it's going to be as a utility guy, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Heether had some back issues last year, IIRC. They may have been lingering into April, or maybe it just took him that long to get his timing back at the plate.

He can play 1B/2B/3B/LF/RF, all adequately. He hasn't played 2B in awhile, but he can. He's a good athlete, with a very good idea at the plate. Not enough power to stick as an everyday player possibly outside of 2B, but he's a very nice utility prospect.

Like 2 years ago in BC, the ball has been jumping offf of his bat. He was the the top offensive cog during Hville's 12 game streak this month. He definately has a chance to do some damage in the Big Leagues.Unfortunately, for him it looks like 3B is spoken for.
